How Selected: I thought the facility was very good and I see there services as valued. I chose this hospital as a result of my insurance plan.
Competitors: I have always been quite pleased with Baptist hospital in comparison to its neighboring facilities.
Comments: The only complaint I can register is that the surgical pre-op department is extremely time consuming. Patients need to be prepared to wait! Appointment times often extend well past expected which, can be very inconvenient for patients leaving work to attend an assigned appointment.

How Selected: This is the hospital that my doctor is connected with
Comments: My biggest problem was the overnight treatment that I received regarding pain medication. They act like you are taking it out of their purse. I told the doctor and she got them but the air went out the next night.

How Selected: There was no particular way I selected the hospital. I just chose Baptist because of it's reputation with patient satisfaction.
Competitors: Memorial Medical was patient orientated. All employees were falling overthemselves to please the customer (patient).
Comments: The hospital stay was pleasant. I was somewhat disappointed with the nursing care. I'm a RN and I could not believe how the nurses did not assess me at the beginning of shift or sometimes not at all. IThank God I was able to assess myself. I just don't understand where they got their data to write their nurses note. No one listened to my bowel tones. The evening nurse looked at the incisions on my belly. No one checked my peripheral pulses or listened to my breath tones. The only time the nurse assessed my breath tones was when my temp was elevated and she was concerned about atalectasis. The key to good nursing is gathering good base line data at the beginning of shift. This is very important. How else would you know if the patient is going bad or is having complications if haven't determined your baseline which is necessary for comparision purposes.

How Selected: I am a Tenet employee so for maximum insurance benefits and discounts, I chose Memorial Baptist because it was the only Tenet hospital my surgeon performed surgery at.
Competitors: In New Orleans, I have only been hospitalized for my RNY surgery, so I do not have any basis to compare.
Comments: Overall I had a great experience at Memorial Baptist. The staff was very kind, and compassionate. My surgery went great and I was well taken care my entire stay.

How Selected: Was on my insurance plan
Competitors: I have had better care in other hospitals.
Comments: I was so glad I had someone there at all times. I had to remind the nurses to give me my heperin shots and my toridol shots. They were spread too thin. I had to call and call and call if I needed anything. Post op was awful. Just coming out of surgery is a very scarey time and the nurses seemed more concerned about social stuff than taking care of my needs. A simple, "you are okay and are going to be okay," would have helped me a whole lot. I was so disappointed in the hospital care.
