Multi Security: Poor Privacy: Poor Pain Medication: Poor
Quiet: Poor Visiting: Average Staff Responsive: Very Poor
Parking: Excellent
How Selected: My surgeon only uses this hospital.
Competitors: I would rather drive the distance to another hospital in the area.
Comments: The nursing staff was extremely unhelpful. Would not help me get out of bed. Would not help me back into bed and this was just a couple hours after surgery. Waited up to 15 mins for a response to my call. Waited at 2am for 20 mins for someone to come and stop the iv machine from beeping. That was only some of the problems I had. I wouldnt recommend this hospital to ANYONE. Oh and they left me sitting in a wheelchair in a halway for 2 plus hours waiting for the X ray room to be free for my xray.

Competitors: It is a wonderful hospital, the staff was great!
Comments: My only concern with the hospital was the time it took for the nurses to come to the room if you needed something. But they were extremely busy and packed. They were calm and helpful though, I am very pleased with the hospital, and so is my family who visited constantly.

How Selected: My surgeon practices there.
Competitors: It is clean, well maintained, Has a reasonably good reputation. I knew several nurses from there from my support group. I felt well protected.
Comments: I became very upset prior to surgery. The pre-op staff were very sensitive to my needs and got me a hospital chaplin at my request to help calm me down. The allowed me to feel in control of my own situation. I was not thrilled with the nurse-anesthetist that interviewed me during a pre-operative visit, but my anesthesiologist was wonderful. I did not like the recliner that my doctor has you use the first 24 hours, but the reach bar on the bed was great. If they don't already have one for you request one.

Competitors: During my stay in CCU I had excellent, very attentive care! I felt it was the same as other hospitals I have been in.
Comments: The shortage of nurses was a detrament to the patients when they are placed on the floor. It was more than fustrating when you have a call light on for 5 hours.

Comments: The nurses and assistants are so overworked, they don't have time to take care of you. I went 1 and a half hours without my i.v. hook up one day. They missed two meals another day and didn't remember to give me the protein drink I was suppose to have until the 3rd day I was there. The room was unbearably hot and had to have a family member go out and buy a fan because they didn't have any left. Also, our surgeon requires us to use reclining chairs during the day and they didn't have an unbroken one available for me to use! The OR and ICU departments were wonderful, very caring and attentive nurses, I rate my experience with them as excellent, but once you got out onto the regular hospital ward floor, it was like being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Even with a family member trying to get help, it would take up to an hour to find a nurse to help with anything. I wasn't impressed at all with the quality of care I got while on the regular hospital floor. Leaving the hospital, I got to listen to two assistants complain about their work load, all the way to my car!

Comments: I was lucky enough to get a private room. Some of the building facilities seems dated, but the surgery suites and emergency rooms are brand new. I had very caring nurses.

Comments: I'm a nurse, for almost 20 years now. I know good nursing care vs. poor nursing care. This was some of the poorest care I've seen or experienced. I would never recommend anyone to go to this hospital for surgery! There was one day where it took 30 minutes (no exaggeration!) for my call bell to be answered. My IV had run out, as well as my pump. A nurse from another district, who had passed my door a number of times, finally came in, then went to find my nurse. I said to her "Boy, you must have a lot of patients" to which she responded "Nope, only 3 besides you. It's a light day". Well! Needless to say, I was not happy. Another especially bad moment came at my discharge. I asked for pain medication before leaving to go home, as I wanted something to hold me until I had my prescriptions filled, plus it was a long drive. The nurse didn't want to give me any medication, so I asked to see her supervisor, then she decided to give me the medication. Can you imagine?
