How Selected: This is the hospital where Dr. Gluck's patients go and after researching and finding Dr. Gluck so highly qualified, I signed up everything through his office.
Competitors: The ease of navigating all the pre-op tests, appointments etc. and the follow-up has been unparalleled for efficiency, friendliness and professionalism. All appointment & information gathering is confirmed by phone, so when you get to the hospital, the way is paved for immediate attention. A+++++++++
Comments: My entire experience during my bariatric surgery, both pre-op and post-op has been superb. The nursing staff, the entire hospital staff seems hand picked for excellence. Could not rate it any higher & recommend Dr. Gluck's entire program 100%

Competitors: Not much to compare with, but I was not that impressed.
Comments: Some of the nurses were absolutely on top of their game here! I would definately recommend this surgeon to anyone considering this surgery.

How Selected: Surgeon selected it.
Competitors: This was worse in comparison to Spectrum/Butterworth and St. Mary's in Grand Rapids.
Comments: There was not much consideration for sleep. I instructed the hospital not to have religious people meet me and 2 showed up anyway. I slept once for 4 hours after putting my foot down with the nurses. The cleaning staff were inconsiderate to my sleep. The lab techs turned the lights on when they walked into the room waking everyone up unnecessarily. The surgery staff of Dr. Gluck were awesome, never had better care. The Hospital is a low rent motel with broken equipment and frustrated staff dealing with it. What the heck are they doing with their money. Do not go to Mercy if you can avoid it, it is a low rent hospital and I found it most unsanitary compared to other hospitals in Grand Rapids that I have stayed.

How Selected: My Surgeon works out of this Hospital.
Competitors: They are all the same, it just depends on the people that are giving you your care.
Comments: As with any profession there are people who truly enjoy there job and do it well. There are others that are just there to put in there time, and don't want to be bothered with patient needs. Hospitals are too noisy at night, and the nurses come in and poke and prod all night long so that getting any kind of restful sleep is impossible. There was nothing wrong with the hospital at all, except the rooms are two small, so every time my room mate gets a visit from a nurse... she has to wake me up too as she squeezes past my bed.

Competitors: i have been in quite a few hospitals, and this one was one of the best.
Comments: Very clean, i had a private room so my stay was probally a little more peaceful than those who don't. The nurses were WONDERFUL u have some that have had this surgery. I got any meds i needed pretty quick and they took good care of me. They pretty much allowed me to have visitors whenever i wanted as long as we were quiet. I was in the hospital for 8 days and they were as pleasant as they could be considering it was a hospital.

How Selected: Dr. Gluck performs his procedures here at this hospital.
Comments: Keep in mind that this is a very difficult operation for anyone to go through. It is not meant to be a Condo or five star hotel. With this in mind, I felt many times nurse staff had their hands full and you just have to be patient at times for them to get to you. I did not have to worry about the food there and the reason for that is obvious. Dr. Gluck was present much of the time and visited often. I think the nurses are covering too many patients, but yet this is an intensive wing for them to work in.

Competitors: I have been in better and I have been in worse.
Comments: Over all I recieved very good care. (of course there are some staff who are just there thankfully just one night) I do have to say all of the staff were the best even walking the floor and another nurse would check on you to make sure you are ok. the Blood draw staff bite. They don't even want to find your vein unless you tell them they are not going fishing you get one chance. They all so have troble reading when your chart has no plastic only paper tape and you have paper tape on the shelf on the tray (actucal had 4 rolls in my room for me so people would not use plastic) A big thank you to all of the staff on the fourth floor. Thank you.

How Selected: This is the hospital that my surgeon uses...plus it is the main hospital that myself and my family use for anything.
Competitors: I have always liked Mercy General Health Partners and feel that they are very caring.
Comments: The staff was mostly wonderful and caring but as with any hospital you have at least one staff member that is grumpy, non caring, or inconsiderate. And of course myself and my roomie ended up with one pca that was not very receptive to caring for us...but all in all the rest of the staff (especially Lori) were awesome.

How Selected: Selected this hospital after finding the surgeon
Competitors: I would say that this hospital was the best compared to other hospitals I have been in. The staff was awesome and very attentive. They seemed to take a lot of precautions to lower risks.
Comments: I highly recomened this hospital and my surgeon, Dr. Gluck. The staff at the hospital are aware of the deatils of his surgery needs and makes sure they are met. They are very supportive of the follow up procedures that the surgeon requires - eg walking, sipping, logging intake/outtake, etc.

How Selected: The surgeon I selected uses this hospital. Also, I felt more confident using a faith based hospital.
Competitors: Better than the other local hospitals.
Comments: Overall, I received compassionate care and quality services. There were a few nurses that stood out as excellent examples of care. However, there were a few times when I could not get anyone to respond and one time it was a crisis situation late in the evening. That one experience of waiting almost an hour for vital help has cast a negative shadow on what was a very good hospital experience.

Comments: There is always going to be some staff that are not able to accommodate to everyone. But some were just down right rude and the head nurse witnessed this and told me she did take her aside to talk to her. First night in the hospital I shared a room with another baratric patient and she did not have a good time after the surgery, she ran into some problems, so everytime they would come in to check on her or her IV my IV would get bumped or pulled (which didn't feel good) and the lights would get turned on and which that cant be helped so i would then be awake. So all in all to get a good rest in the hospital for a good recovery ask for a private room. Which worked wonders for me after the 2nd night.

Comments: The hospital was a very clean enviroment. The nurses were taking care of to many patients to work with. By the end of the stay I had learned how to plug all the machines back in myself and turn them on because if you waited for them you would be waiting a long time for them. At one point I had pushed my nurses button and waited for over an hour to get a response from them. At that point I asked for pain meds. and ended up waiting another 45 minutes for it. The rooms were for 2 but when both our nurses were in the rooms they were running into each other they were very small for 2 patients.
