| MY LAP DOCTOR WORKS THROUGH HOSPITAL |

WOW IT'S NOW CALLED SKY LAKES MEDICAL CENTER, FIRST NIGHT OPEN THEY DIDNY KNOW WHERE TO PUT US THEY SHOVED ME IN WITH A LADY WHOM WAS IN ORTHO MEANING THEY PUT BARIATRICS MIXED IN WITH PEOPLE WHO HAD ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY AND THEY MOANED PAIN ALL NIGHT LONG, THREW UP AND I HAD TO SMELL ALL HER MEALS WHICH MADE ME NAUSEATED FOR 2 DAYS, I DIDNT GET NOT PERSONAL LARGE ROOM AND THIS WAS MY ONLY COMPLAINT. |

I would use Meral West over ANY of my local Hospitals, In fact post op i had to be tacken to my local hospital by ambulance told Dr. I wanted to be transfered to Meral West. |

I had a 12 day stay at this hospital, longer then most . I found it to be the best care by all the staff from surgery to x-ray to iccu to the floor! They took really good care of me, Even though they are short staff they still take the time to care!!! I NEVER FELT CHEATED in time or care! |

Compared with the hospitals in Redding I would say it doesn't seem as up-to-date. However, I think they were able to sufficiently handle any emergencies, etc. |

Overall, I was pleased with the whole experience. My only complaint is that the nurses are understaffed-which we know is a problem throughout our country. My sister was there for me the whole time. She was always there to get me unhooked from all the gadgets to help me the the restroom then get me all set up again in bed, get me a drink, make me comfortable, etc. I would say it probably would have been a bad experience had she not been there, as the nurses simply do not have the time to be by your side for all you need. |

| This is the hospital Dr. Mirande operates at. The hospital and staff are in my opinion one of the best. The care was excellent and professional. The facilities were all clean and updated. Nothing old or run down. I was very pleased with my whole experience at this facility. |

My overall experience was a really good one. I was repeatedly told, however, that a hospital is not where you come for rest, but that you can do that at home. I found that to be true! lol! |

Overall I had a very nice stay. Everyone was very attentative, except for 1 nite it was a nightmare, the nurses I had were not caring at all. but overall the other nurses that I had were wonderful. |

When the nursing supevisor was told I had a bad night because of the night shift, (my second night) she came right to me and wanted to know what happened, she was very nice and you could tell she was angered by the way I was treated. Except for the one night everyone was very caring and wonderful. One of their nurses aides "Del" is the most special person I have every met, she definitely stole my heart. I would love to go back and see them all when I have my appointment next month. |

I'm updating since I had surgery on Dec.3,2003 and two more surgeries in the next nine days due to complications. Merle West can't compare to any hospital I've been to except maybe when I had major surgery 30 years ago! I call Merle West the "Happy Hospital" because from check-ins to check-outs, I was treated extremely well. |

I would highly reccomend this hospital to anyone who is thinking about bariatric surgery. From the cleaning staff to the nurses they were all awesome and truly cared how I was doing. There were four nurses and three CNA's that were so caring and especially stick out in my mind. I had one bad night, it was the night Debbie Troutman and I were roomates (see Deb's comments). Other than that, I have to say because I was on and off in this particular hospital for almost 20 days, I know what I'm talking about. |

| The docotr was selected because of his location and this was his campus. Therefore I chose him and went to Merle West Medical Center |

I would have to say that this institution is truely the finest hospital Iv'e ever been in. This very rural community hospital is truely unique and was far better than those in Redding.
I think it is the best hospital Ive ever been in. I was astounded at the awesome care, I HIGHLY reccomend this hos[ital and it was worth the 5 2 1/2 hour trips up. |

I think I pretty much summed it up but I would like to add that a few of the nurses had stories of thier own about WLS they had.
Every wheel chair and every shower chair and everything available for for morbidly obese people throughout the entire hospital. just amazing! |

I only have three negative commnets, I didn't get to see my doctor before surgery, nor did my family. The next one was the recovery room. When I woke up I couldn't see anyone, just heard voices, I heard this guy say they had to use the paddles. I had to have a heart cath 5-days before my surgery so I wasn't sure if it was me they were talking about. I said please help me, and this other guy said what's wrong with her?? He said oh she just has anxiety. No doubt! And one nurse said to me that she wouldn't of had the surgery if she would have been me. Great thing to say to someone who just had the surgery. |

I felt this hospital was very caring and compassionate to the needs of the extremly obese patient. I never felt like I was looked down upon due to my weight which is how I felt at other hospitals. |

EXCELLENT CARING!!!! ATTENTIVE!!!!! all the nurses were wonderful but one in particular stood out, his name was Bob and he worked the night shift. As much pain as I was in he always came in and managed to make me smile. He made a comment that I was like a brand new corvette, and we just had to wait for the wrapping to come off!!! I thought that was so sweet! |

I feel that I had excellent care the entire time I was in the hospital. From the woman who checked me in the morning of the surgery to the nurse that discharged me, I had a wonderful experience at Merle West. No complaints whatsoever! |

They had a room set up especially for gastric bypass patients and it was suppose to be private. Hospital was overcrowded and I had a semi-private room....kind of crummy deal since I paid out of pocket $15,000.00. Other than that, it was good. |
