How Selected: Methodist is consistantly rated among the top hospitals in the US, is a teaching hospital & has doctors/residents in attendance around the clock. Their Weight Mgmt & WLS Program is top-notch. They also keep all WLS patients in one wing after surgery so you can get specialized care & equipment as needed. They put WLS patients in special beds when you first check in pre-op in order to make you more comfortable. Also, the doors, chairs, bathroom spcace, etc, in this wing are larger than normal for the comfort of WLS patients.
Competitors: Methodist is among the top 3 general non-profit teaching hospitals in the Texas Medical Center here in Houston. I find they usually strive for better service than the smaller hospitals around town. Methodist has patients from all over the world, so why not take advantage of the best right here in my own back yard. Their new Weight Mgmt & WLS Progam is superb, with support groups & follow up care. As a side note, they also offer room service meals at the hospital; you call to order your meals whenever you like, just like in a hotel. Of course, in my case that was only a liquid diet this visit! Patient rooms are furnished with dark wood bedroom furniture like you would have in your own home. This makes for a more pleasant homey feeling for you and your guests.
Comments: I had my 3 children at Methodist over 40 yrs ago & in that time it has grown from one bldg to several high-rise specialty buildings. They have always been a non-profit teaching hospital affiliated with a top-notch medical school & train doctors from around the world. I found out that they have a very intense program of hand-washing/glove-use for all employees in patient care. It is a constant priority with signs all over & employees even wearing tags to remind each other at all times. Overall the hospital was kept very clean, bathroom, floors, etc, cleaned twice daily. Everyone there seemed very polite, cheerful & empathetic of your needs. I would recommend Methodist Hospital to anyone contemplating WLS or any other medical needs.
