How Selected: Reputation in the community for this type of surgery. Excellent pre-op instructions for support through groups, tour, and educational sessions.
Competitors: Very good in pre-op support.
Comments: Overall care was good. One issue I had - prior to release, no care instructions on how to clean and care for incision site. No dressing was on the site at release and I had oozing and some blood coming through the support binder. No follow-up calls from the hospital to check on progress.

Competitors: I think Rockville Hospital and Middlesex are about the same. I think highly of my experiences with Rockville. I think Rockville and Middlesex are better than my experiences with St. Francis.
Comments: I had a private room which was very nice. I had one problem the day of my surgery I paged for an hour and a half I screamed for a nurse for about an hour. Finally a nurse helper came in and apologized over and over holding my hand he said they were doing shift reports. I firmly told him that should never had happened. All of my experiences thereafter were top notch with the exception of one nurse helper who didn't want to walk me due to reports. I had asked at 4 am she was doing vitals, no problem I would wait I understand that. I waited until 6 am I hit my button she came in and said what do you want I am right outside your door. I told her I wanted help to get up and walk. She said she can't now that she was doing charting. I told her too bad get me up I need to walk. I had already waited an hour and a half. She said can't you walk on your own. I said it's impossible for me to walk pushing an IV stand and an oxygen tank. I asked her if she would be capable of doing that. She didn't say a word, got me up, found an IV pole which also held an oxygen tank and off I was. I hope she learned to have argued with me took longer than finding the solution, implementing it and then we were both happy. I walked, she charted. However, even with these two issues, my care was top notch, all the nurses were wonderful those taking care of me and others who encouraged me when I was walking. The nurse helpers (PCT's?)were excellent. Norma is the absolute best! If you are lucky to get her you will love her, she is on top of everything she's wonderful. As far as the nursing staff, I had wonderful care from all of them. I had Gen, Jennifer, Jen, April and Dania, all were great. They too were comforting and caring and on top of everything. I don't want the two issues I encountered to overshadow the wonderful care I received 98% of the time. I wouldn't want to have had this surgery anywhere else. I just can't say enough about the nurses and helpers (PCT's?). They all were great. I look forward to going back walking totally upright and visiting them. You will be in excellent care with the 4th floor staff. If you run into the PCT I had, just insist that you get up and walked within a reasonable time period, be polite but firm. Explain that your current care is more important than a chart. That can wait. It's rare to find such warm, friendly professional care. Middlesex 4 th floor offers it all. Great job.
