How Selected: This hospital was selected by the WISH center. The Bidwell center was contracted with WISH exclusively for WLS patients.
Competitors: The staff was very well trained in WLS and extremely friendly.
Comments: The ONLY negative I have about the hospital is the constant waking. Every 30 minutes you are woken up for your vitals, a breathing treatment, another medication, an IV change... something. I did not get very restful sleep until I was released. However, all the nurses were very friendly and empathetic. I would recommend this hospital highly to others

How Selected: I am an employee. The hospital recently established an expanded, comprehensive multidisiciplinary bariatric wellness program adding two new eperienced and board certified surgeons who've relocated from another city: Dr. Reggie Singh and Dr. Kira Schofield
Competitors: Comparing with the IP hospital experience of my mother (28 days this year, 14 days last year) at two other local hospitals, my experience was FAR superior. The competence of the nurses and the attitude of ALL the staff was exemplary. Every person who came in my room asked if there was anything else they could help me with/ do for me before leaving. I felt safe, well cared for.
Comments: At first I suspected that the great experience I was having was related to my status as an employee of the hospital (not a nurse). After talking with several of my caregivers, I realized that they didn't even know that I work there, so I believe my experience was typical. The program as it currently exists is new, and will continue to grow and improve, but I was THRILLED.

How Selected: Hospital was within my network and my surgeon worked out of the hospital.
Competitors: Hospital perhaps was not as up-to-date as the hospital in my home town.
Comments: Most of my meals were not completely within the guidelines of what I should have had post op. I was there 19 days and progressed from liquids to soft foods and the soft diet was not always within the guidelines of what I should have eaten at that stage of my recovery.

How Selected: The surgeon selected it.
Competitors: I thought my stay was very good.
Comments: I was rather instistant on getting a private room and I got it. No one was allowed to stay with me overnight in ICU, my husband stayed the entire time with me. I felt they really went out of their way to "bend the rules" to meet my requests.

How Selected: It was where my surgeon performed surgeries at the time.
Competitors: I'm not sure
Comments: They were short staffed like most healthcare facilities. But no one who is post op from major surgery should have to wait 15-30 mins for a call light to be answered!

How Selected: My insurance would only approve this hospital for the group of surgeons I chose to have do the surgery.
Comments: I requested a private room and was under the impression I would receive one. It wasn't until I was being wheeled back from recovery did I discovery that had me rooming with a 90+ year old woman. She continually groaned and moaned the entire time I was there and she kept asking me to help her do stuff when I could barely move. The nurses station was also by my room and they are quite noisy the entire night. I was so miserable that I asked my surgeon to let me go home early (he released me after two days rather than the usual three he requires). Overall, the nurses were friendly and accomodating as far as pain medication and helping unplug the IV for trips to the restroom.
