How Selected: it was closest to family and had a great reputation. apparently, things have changed. i have never seen such a horrible, insenitive place in my life and i worked in a hospital for 6 years. i would not recommend this hospital to a dead snake.
Competitors: this hospital staff all need re training
Comments: they did not clean the bathrooms. when i asked they would not change my dressings and i was leaking all over my gown. i asked for some water and soap so i could wash but no one would help me. any time i asked a nurse for help they would say wait for your doctor and would not lift a finger.

Comments: I was not in a "special" unit. When I arrived I was given a very small gown which was changed when another nurse noticed, they told me to pee then they told me I had to take a pregnancy test and pee again. my roommate asked for ice cream, I never saw another RNY patient. The floor was very busy, and the power went out the morning i was leaving.

How Selected: My Dr operated out of two hospitals and this one was the closest to home for me. I also knew a little about the hospital from having visited a family member there.
Competitors: I would rate it slightly higher than some of my local hospitals.
Comments: The nurses and residents working on my floor, as well as in the recovery area were wonderful and very attentive. My only complaint was that I had one nursing assistant during my stay who didn't want to do anything to help me. I didn't ask for much, but even the smallest thing (plugging my IV back into the wall) seemed to make her quite angry. Overall, the rest of the experience was great though. Be sure and request a fan as soon as you get into a regular room, as the rooms are extremely hot.

How Selected: My Surgeon only goes here
Competitors: I work in the EMS field. This Hospital rates second to none in patient care. for any problem you may have.
Comments: Only problems I had were that they have secondary nurses station at the end of the hall right near our rooms and that made it difficult to sleep the first night every time I closed the door some had to come in do check on something with me or my roommate and left the door open when let the noise an all the light from the hall back in. The second thing is that it was warm on the floor. I was told this in a preop meeting by my surgeons nurse so I did bring a small fan but I still covered my pillow in a towel and soaked it from sweating to much. I did not find out that they had some large fans available until I was about to leave.

How Selected: My doctor practices here.
Competitors: My only other hospital stays were at Jersey Shore Medical Center, in Neptune, NJ and they were far better.
Comments: My room was 82 degrees the whole stay. They had to bring in big fans for me and my "roommate" to keep us comfortable. I was constantly hot and sweaty, not very conducive to healing. The first night there, it took 45 minutes and 4 calls for the nurse to finally help me to the bathroom, and refill my PCA (pain meds). I cried from frustration and I'm not a "crying type", but I was so angry at the slow response I couldn't help it.

Competitors: Level of care received is superior.
Comments: The care I received at MMH was excellent. The nurses were wonderful and were knowledgeable about taking care of bariatric patients. I received a short presentation before I went home and received a nice size handout about what I need to do now that the surgery is over. I only had one complaint and it was that the room was hot. The next morning there was a repair man in repairing the AC. I was shocked and very happy!

How Selected: It's where my Dr's operate.
Competitors: This is a very good hospital.
Comments: I have no real problems with this hospital. My lower than excellent ratings are due to the fact that the nurses could have been a little more friendly, and available. The Jefferson Floor where all WLS patients go, is huge and has many many nurses. It was ususally difficult to find one, and get a prompt response from them. I had to ask for pain meds (oral) each time I needed them -and at times felt like I was bother the nurse who was sitting at a computer most times I saw them. I could have pain meds once every 4 hours - I asked at 8pm for the night nurse to please bring it to me at 11pm when I was due - so the pain wouldn't get ahead of me. When I woke up at 2pm - no meds - no nurse - no apology. My other issue was that they put me in a room with an older woman who had slight dimentia -that was fine - but then they put an infectious disease warning on the door to our room and walked away! I had to ask what it was, they had to check, and told me it was in her foley catherter, and not a real issue for me (please - her urine gets dumped in my toilet!) and they would be moving her to a private room. This took 5 hours to happen - and only after my husband asked again! I feel bad for the poor old lady - but hey - it's my health here too! My husband had a much better experience in August - we met his nurses who were all great, and I wish I could have requested! All in all a good hospital - it depends on the personality of your nurses - don't be afraid to ask, for what you need - although you shouldn't have to, and be made to feel you are a bother.

How Selected: My insurance company gave me the names of 3 surgeons. Dr. Bertha was one of them. Since he operates out of Morristown Memorial Hospital, the decision was already made for me, however; I could not have made a better choice.
Competitors: When my father was dying on cancer, he was in Baytshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. He receivedsuperb treatment in the ICU, but the regular floor was terrible. He was completely neglected. I was worried about going to the hospital because of that (I have only been to the hospital to deliver babies). The floor at Morristown was as great as the ICU in Holmdel.
Comments: Wonderful, impresive hospital. I was lucky to be there. The staff was considerate and sensitive. Would reccommend it to anyone.

Competitors: The hospital has a very good reputation for many different areas of health care.
Comments: Pay attention to the questions they ask you. There were several problems with my history. The anesthesiologist told me I had a history of frequent bouts of pneumonia which was not true. One of the nurses asked how long I had my pacemaker; I don't have a pacemaker. On three occasions they told me my glucose levels; I am not diabetic and my glucose levels were not checked. My first meal tray came with a gold colored napkin; it fell to the floor and there it remained until I was discharged about 36 hours later. The napkin is not a big deal, just a comment that no one came to mop the floor in all the time I was there.

Competitors: Well from what I hear of local hospitals around Woodbridge, this one is definitely superior!
Comments: My overall experience was great! I think that people forget that they are not the only ones in the hospital and that the nurses do have other patients to help. I would have liked to have gone to the bathroom, when I wanted too, but the reality was that the nurses were busy and they got to me when they could.. Kudos to the whole staff!!! I think it was an excellent hospital and I would recommend it to anyone.....By the way, the worst place to try and rest is a hospital...and I mean any hospital....LOL
