Comments: I really enjoyed being able to communicate with my doctor through the robot. I felt as if the doctor was right there. The robot and my doctor's voice were warm and friendly. At one point, I was taking a walk and noticed the robot entering my room. I quicken my pace and when I got to the doorway, the robot was looking around and calling my name. I thought this was really cute. Ha Ha. All in all I think it is a great service.

Comments: The overall experience was just okay. The night nurses where not very responsive. On several occasions I waited at least 1/2 hour for a nurse after using the call button and reporting that I needed assistance getting to the bathroom. I eventually removed the sleeves with velcro from my legs using my toes, manuevering my bed to sit up, gathering the IV equipment which I had to unplug and then making my way to the bathroom. Once I didn't quite make it. I complained to the Patient Advocate before I left. One nurse came in after smoking and I could smell it on her hands. YUCK!! There was one nurse that was OUTSTANDING and one that was okay.

Comments: I was very pleased with the care I received at Sainai. Most of the health care professionals were very caring and attentive, and I was given a private room! There was one nurse, on the night shift, who seemed overwhelmed and frustrated, but the care provided by all other members of the staff - including the residents and the anesthesiologist- was great!

Competitors: Below average, but we're a city of world class hospitals.
Comments: As with most hospitals, there are too few nurses, and the result is slow care at times. Otherwise, a very good experience. Excellent anesthesiologist. I literally woke up minutes out of the operating room, with no memory of pre-op preparation, and with no throat pain at all.

How Selected: I selected this hospital based on my surgeon, Dr.Michael Schweitzer, who is the doctor who originally developed the Lap form of the RNY. He is brilliant and I wanted him to do the surgery so I went where he was affliated.
Competitors: I am closer to the Annapolis Regional Medical Center which is beautiful, has all the latest technologies, equipment, and is new. Compared to other hospitals I have been to within MD I was not overly impressed. My room was dingy. It did not look like it had been painted in a few years, the a/c unit did not work properly, the tv remote/call button for the nurse (all on the same hand held unit) did not work right and was replaced the 3 day I was there.
Comments: My surgeon was wonderful and I would stay at this hospital again only if I was having surgery again with this doctor and this was the only hospital he was affliated with. There was a group on resident doctors that came daily to check on the patients on the surgical ward that were outstanding. I was not overly impressed with the nurses however. They were very slow to respond to the call buttons and even slower to get to your room. I had 2 nurses that were actually attentive and cheerful and seemed like they enjoyed their jobs and wanted to help me. One was Guinnevere, she was wonderful. She was a bundle of energy, quick to answer, always had a smile on her face and was cheerful. She made me feel like so request was a bother. The food was ok. I have no complaints about that. It was standard issue hospital food, but mushier. :)

How Selected: It was the hospital that my surgeon was affiliated with... My mother had back surgery @ Sinai many years ago, and was very satisfied with the care she had recieved @ that time.
Competitors: The nurses were very caring.. They were very compasionate, caring and friendly. I was invited back to "visit" at any time, so that they could share in my progress.
Comments: Excellent experience, highly recommend.

How Selected: MY SURGEON'S OFFICE IS LOCATED HERE, THEREFORE HE PERFORMS SURGERY HERE.
Competitors: SINAI IS NOT THE BEST I HAVE EXPERIENCED.
Comments: THE DOCTORS AND DAY NURSES WERE EXCELLENT, BUT LOOK OUT FOR THE NIGHT. THE NIGHT NURSES ARE NOT RESPONSIVE AT ALL! I HAD 2 SURGERIES HERE AND SEVERAL TIMES THEY TOOK FOREVER TO BRING MY MEDS. I'M TALKING 45-120 MINUTES LATE! ONCE I HAD TO CALL THE SURGEON DIRECTLY.

Competitors: I am not from that local area, so I have none to compare it with.
Comments: The pharmacy is very poor. Once they removed my morphine pump, and I requested pain medication, it took almost 1 hour for them to get it up to me. Overall, it was okay.

How Selected: Selected my surgeon, this is where he works out of.
Competitors: It was my first hospital stay. However I had to visit ER room 4 wks post op and they were beyond bad. I left after a four hour wait.
Comments: Two family members came with for surgery, could not find a place to sit on 3 floors including in the cafeteria, they finally went and sat in their car while I was in Recovery. I was left the night of surgery without pain meds for 2 hours. Not happy. Got up several times to empty my own bladder bag, and told them it hurt to move the tubes at all. Turns out the thing wasn't in all the way. As long as you're pro-active about taking care of yourself its ok. They need to work on it. The nurses are nice to you though. Just not all that attentive unless you specifically request something.

Competitors: This is a 5 star hospital not to be compared with my local hospitals. I would travel the 55 miles again in a heartbeat to use this facility.
Comments: The staff was considerate and most helpful. I found everyone to be caring. The Patient Advocate was the most helpful. She went above and beyond. In fact the staff asked if when I was back in the area to come back and show them my weight loss.
