How Selected: I select this hospital because I knew it was the best. I did my homework and when I saw that Ali daughter did her surgery there I was convinced NYU would be the place for me.
Competitors: It was great and the staff was wonderful. Unlike other hospitals they made me feel comfortable.
Comments: This hospital was great. Even though I was only there for 1 day they made me feel like a queen. I would advise anyone to go to this hospital for any surgery that needs to be done.

How Selected: I selected it because I did my research & everyone seems to agree that when it comes to LAP BAND surgery the best in the NY area & possibly world-wide are Dr. George Fielding & Dr. Christine Ren!
Competitors: There is no comparison. I have been to others & in other hospitals the minute you walk in you feel the "Sadness" in the air - while at NYU I felt all positivity & a feeling that I had nothing to worry about.
Comments: In one word: BEST.

Competitors: I travelled outside of my local area to use this hospital. I felt it was a better hospital than ones that were closer to my home.
Comments: I felt well cared for by all the staff that I had interactions with on the day of surgery until discharge. The preop medical clearance procedure was atrocious but it's just one day and you never have to deal with them again! I felt it was a good tradeoff since there was nothing invasive being done by them besides bloodwork.

How Selected: Surgeon operates there.
Competitors: No other hospital experience.
Comments: Very nice staff and had a great experience. I was not in much pain, but they rushed to give me pain meds as soon as I asked. I didn't know what to expect, but I was surprised about the individualized care in the recovery room, there was a nurse sitting next to me watching me the whole time (and I'm healthy, and had an easy surgery/recovery with no complications at all) I had thought that they'd be walkign around having a couple nurses for all the patients, but I had my own for the two hours I was there. They brought me upstairs after giving me pain meds in the recovery room and it was nice and quiet and they were very attentive to my needs. I don't know the names of all the staff members there, but there was a nurse named Ayelet who was exceptionally nice, the others were too, but she was my nurse and that's the only name I remember. The only complaint I had was that they didn't tell waiting family members when the surgery was over. I'm not sure if it's their fault or the surgeons fault, but they finally came looking for me four hours after I went into a half hour procedure. I had asked for them in the recovery room, but for some reason, despite the fact that they were so nice and courteous in every other aspect of my care, they did not tell the family, and I saw that was the same with the other patients there. The families had to come looking for them, hours after they were in their room, which was after two hours in the recovery room. I would definitely recommend NYU to anyone considering surgery, and would go there again if I required any sort of revision.

How Selected: Because the surgeon is affiliated here. I'm about two hours away so it would not necessarily have been my first choice otherwise.
Competitors: The same -- the administrative was disorganized but the medical care was very good.
Comments: Very confused on the outset; however, the care by professional staff was very good. I can live with misdirection and misinformation if care is good.

Comments: No warm fuzzies here - just a straight forward hospital. I personally had to stay in the ICU/Post-op area for 5 hours (til 2:30AM) because there were no beds available until then. That was NOT a very calming pleasant experience at all. When I finally got a room, it was extremely TINY and cramped. I was lucky, however, that my roommate was also a Lap-band patient near my age.

How Selected: This is where my surgeon was affiliated. After several visits and after per surgical testing, I was sure I had made the right choice.
Competitors: This hospital measures up to many of the other hospitals I have been a patient in. The medical staff was superb, kind and compassionate.
Comments: The only problem I had was my room mate. She was in terrible discomfort due to her allergies. There was not much the nursing staff could do for her and she moaned all night. She wanted them to contact a doctor on call. She was constantly calling for her aides and some of them were not very knid or understanding. As a result I couldn't sleep. Otherwise, everything was great. The hospital was immaculate. Dr. Fielding's staff and medical team was totally professional.

How Selected: I selected my surgeon who was excellent and this is the hospital she is at.
Comments: I thought that of all places NYU would have excellent care, well...nope. In recovery everything was great. The staff was extrememly attentive, then I got moved to a rom that I was only in for 1 day. I was also completely ignored while I was in there, then they moved me to another room on another floor and put me next to some crazy lady who kept yelling to have her diaper changed. I told them I was NOT staying there. it took them 7 hours to open a roon for me. I was denied ICE CHIPS for 2 days because they kept saying I had to have a cat scan, but my doctor ALWAYS does the cat scan while you are onthe operating table! My surgery was on a thursday afternoon, I left sunday morning even though I was still in so much pain and very weak. I thought if I spent 1 more day in that hell hole I would die for sure.
