Competitors: This hospital is 150% better than any of the local hospitals within an hour and a half from my home.
Comments: My only complaints with NHRMC are that they are working on a huge addition and it has construction going on all around. The only other complaint is that they do not have comfortable reclining chairs for whomever stays with you over night. My husband was miserable on a flat block chair/cot.

Comments: I had a great experience at New Hanover. I was told by the nurse that they usually try and give the bariatric patients there own room. Which was exactly what I received. My husband was allowed to stay overnight and they gave him a "sleep chair" that made his stay more comfortable. When I walked around the floor, I noticed all other surgery patients were doubled up in their rooms. They had to share a room, but I got a private room. It was awesome!

Competitors: Only hospital I've been to as a patient in the area.
Comments: Overall experience was good. Very noisy surgery floor. Luckily I didn't want to sleep during the night. Couldn't have gotten any anyway with all the noise in the corridors at night. I was almost quieter during the daytime hours.

Comments: Overall, was a great stay. I had a problem with a room mate the first few hours, but then I requested to be moved and they accomodated me. Very loud, every word out of their mouth was a curse word. I didn't want my kids in there with that. And I mean nasty curse words. They had big gowns and the nurse I had the first day was really helpful. She let me hold on to her and walk around the floor. I later found out her mom had GBP, so maybe that is why she was so nice. But the other nurses were just a friendly. I didn't have any problems at all!

Competitors: This hospital was horrible to x-ray dept. was so rude and the lady there acted like I could break her if she helped me onto the table for the x-ray. This hospital has no sugar free foods available for there patients diabetic or otherwise.
Comments: The nurses were horrible, well that was if you saw the nurse! Once at the beginning of the shift then at the end, if you call on them they act like you are bothering them. The hospital did not offer sugar free foods so we went and bought our own and it mysteriosly got gone out of the frigerator where it was being kept cold....HUMMMMM how caring was that.

How Selected: My surgeon operated there & it's close to home.
Competitors: About the same
Comments: They need to try to put the bariatric patients together if rooms have to be shared. I had to share a room with an elderly woman with other medical problems & she moaned & groaned all night and had loud visitors all hours. That one thing made my stay very miserable.

Comments: For the most part the nursing care is excellent--facility is up to date and pre-op experience was without problems. You have to watch your billing like a hawk. Most problems I have heard about seem to be the result of people not understanding the routines or reasons behind treatments done. No hospital, nurse, dr or surgery is without problems. Having a realistic outlook helps.

Competitors: I`m not from here,an can`t say anything about the hospital except how I was treated .An I feel the staff needs to be educated an updated on this type of surgery(from nurses to the foods they served)I recieved a regular surgical liquid diet not low cal. or suger-free. not that you want to eat,you don`t!!!
Comments: Ifelt safe with my surgeon an his team ,but I felt the staff at the hospital could`nt have cared one way or the other about us .

How Selected: this was the hospital my surgeon practices at.
Competitors: This was the absolute worse hospital that I've ever stayed in. The nurse, TINA was extremely rude and obviously not doing her job. The following day after my surgery, she went to get me breakfast(per my DR's orders to see that I could keep it down and if so, I would be discharged)....I had to ask her three more times trhoughout the day and I finally received my 'breakfast, at 7:00 pm. They obviosuly missed lunch and dinner as well. I have never been treated so poorly by a hospital in my entire life.
Comments: The first and last night I was there, the buzzer/bell to my IV(letting them know it needed to be replaced with a full one) went off for 55 minutes before a nurse came in to change it and that was only because I called for the nurse. These were just two problems I had with the hospital....There were plenty more. I will NEVER use this hospital in the future.

Competitors: seems like a nice place..nothing spectacular.
Comments: ok.. i was really turned off by one thing.. my ivs for the pain gave me more pain then the surgery itself.. they had to reinsert the iv after a day and a half of the meds burning in my vains.. then it happened a second time untill i had to ask the nurse to just remove the iv all together and i would just deal with the pain.. and i still have bad bruises up and down my veins from this darned iv prob.. so that was really all that was wrong with the stay, other than that they were very compliant with my husband staying the 3 days with me, even gave me a private room.. so it was a small price to pay for the surgery...

Competitors: overall the nursing care was poor. i know that if i was at another hospital around the area i live the care would have been better
Comments: i was shocked by the way things were handled. when i got there the first thing the pre-op nurse said was that my doctor was mean. i was rushed through pre-op because there was a cancellation. they had a hard time getting the iv started.my surgery was over between 4pm ans 5pm,buti didn't get to my roomuntil after midnight because there were no beds available. my nursing care overall poor. i was never offered to get help with a bath, etc. my family was there but that wasn't there responsibilty. i never received any of my medications i was taking at home. i had a horrible bed that was supposed to help me get up, but it didn't work properly. there had been some problems between the nursing staff and my doctor and you could tell it. i was only in hospital 3days

Competitors: It's a state of the art hospital. But if there's a negative is, the staff is over worked and stressed. The hospital administrators should take a pay cut and pay employee's better and hire more nurse's.
Comments: This is a continuation from above..excellent hospital, but the administration need's to be replaced. All they care about is there saleries and bonuses. They do have nice bonuses!!
