Comments: staff was very nice to me. The only complaint I had was the bed was not very comfortable. But then again, my lower back was bothering me from what I believe was being on the operating table.

How Selected: My physician uses this hospital.
Competitors: This hospital has an excellent reputation. However, I am not familiar with any other hospitals in the area.
Comments: My only problem during my stay came from a nurse (who normally worked on another floor). She came in at 3:30 AM and gave me a bath and took out my catheter after surgery the day before. I felt like that was too EARLY, and still don't understand why it was done at 3:30 in the morning????? I've had many hospitalizations and never had this happen. My daughter was sleeping in the room that night and thought it was strange too. Oh well, maybe she just thought it was 8:30 am and not 3:30 AM.

How Selected: My Dr practices there.
Competitors: I don't know any other local hospitals, but from my experience, it was like any other.
Comments: I had no issues with the staff at all. I worked in healthcare and it is unprofessional to tell a patient "I don't have time" and I was told that one time, other than a few bad personalities the stay was good.

Competitors: The surgery center part of the hospital was great. I wasnt frightened, but the floor you go to after surgery was lacking in education and support.
Comments: After surgery, the after care including education from nursing staff was poor. There was only one nurse that took the extra min. to educate me on dressing changes and after care. Every time I asked a question of anyone else they didnt have a clue and either said I dont know and left it at that or they had to go check and half the time still didnt know.

How Selected: My surgeon specified this hospital.
Competitors: Comparable to the largest and best in Birmingham area.
Comments: The staff at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center surprised me at their knowledeg of wls and wls patients. They value Dr. Freeman as member of their team and seemed to be attentive to my needs because of his stature in the community. There were a few issues: The Respiratory Department representatives came to the room for rep "therapy", which consisted of throwing a spirometer at me and telling me to breathe until they came back; and one of the night shift nurses was surly and unaccomodating. Otherwise, the hospital experience was better than expected.

How Selected: This is the hospital my surgeon does his surgery at.
Competitors: I did not like this hospital, and I wished I could have had my surgeon perform the surgery at a local hospital (Crestwood Medical Center particularly in Huntsville,AL).
Comments: They were slow to respond, cranky and unfriendly, and when I tried to ask them for things they acted put out and took forever (lot of paging to remind them) to do whatever it was..

How Selected: This is the hospital Dr. Freeman uses for his patients.
Competitors: It wasn't as quiet as Decatur General Hospital. I've only been in the hospital twice in my life. This time wasn't the best since I couldn't rest good.
Comments: I just wish they didn't have to come in every couple hours to do something to me. Everytime I was resting good someone would come in. I know that's their job but at night I think they should let people rest. Other than that it was a decent experience.

Comments: Medical staff excellent, housekeeping staff left a lot to be desired. They wanted to wait to clean up to see if you were going home that day and by the time you found out that you were staying there was no clean up person to be found and the bathroom was not cleaned till I told my Dr. and then it got cleaned. So if you are going to use this hospital I urge you to tell Dr. Freeman as soon as they miss cleaning and he will take care of it.

It takes a special person to be a nurse and this woman had no Business in the profession, When your in pain and hurting there is no excuss for a nurse like this she should be selling used cars, at a buy here pay here car lot

Comments: although I think the hospital and staff was well trained and more than capable of taking care of patients, the nursing staff was very insensitive and seemed not to care. I had to ask for my pain medicine and it was always late when it was finally brought to me, my mother stayed with me and she is the person who bathed me and seen to my comfort and general needs. The first day I was on a machine that I could adminster medicine myself, when that ran out is when I started having to wait on the nurse to bring the medicine and they will only bring it if you call and ask for it and then it may be a while.

Competitors: I have not received any better service at any other hospital. I went a long way from home to have this surgery and I don't regret having to use this one at all. I can't say that I would have liked to have had the surgery done anywhere else.
Comments: The nurses were always there if you needed them and were very knowledgable about my surgery. They made sure I was comfortable and offered suggestions from previous patients that aided in my comfort. There was not a shift that I dreaded to see. All of the nurses were just angels.

Competitors: It may not beable to handle all our needs but it has the means to get you where you need to be FAST .. what do you expect for a small town hospital .
Comments: I have nothing bad to say about any of the employees . from the nurses to the housekeeping and everyone in between they were all polite some were grumpy but they are tired . and you are not always your best . no matter how hard you try i have been there it is hard . all of my nurses were wonderful house keeping was good . what do u expect . people are sick they cant be there to pick up everything you drop .

Comments: My only problem with the hospital was the in attentiveness of the nurses. When you asked them for help with something, they either took their time about coming to your room or completely forgot you had asked for something. My IV was allowed to infiltrate before they would remove it and when my mom went and told them there was a problem with it, it took them another hour to come remove it. They need to work on this.

Competitors: I live in Dothan and we have two hospitals. I would choose either of them over this hospital.
Comments: The hospital smelled very old and musty. The rooms were old and house keeping leaves a lot to be desired. The nursing staff were very rude and uncaring. They had no personality!!!!There was only one nurse that I liked and her name was Stephanie. She was sensative to your needs and very accommadating. I hate that she is stuck there in that god awful hospital.

Comments: The only negative thing was the inconsistancy in pain management. I was on the morphine pump for two days. It then depended on which nurse you had as to how much and often you could get pain meds. One nurse would give it one way and then the next shift would do it differently.
