How Selected: This hospital was decided on for me based on my surgeon and insurance coverage.
Competitors: I received adequate care in this hospital... not what I had expected by any means.
Comments: Starting out on the "bariatric unit" was pretty good. Unfortunately, I had to be moved downstairs because the unit closes on Fridays. I did not feel that the care downstairs catered to bariatric patients in ANY way. Some of the nurses were excellent, but I felt VERY out of place.

How Selected: This is the hospital my surgeon uses, that my insurance would cover.
Competitors: Being a special bariatric unit I think made the stay much more appealing and pleasant.
Comments: Many of the staff members were former patients. They knew first hand what I was feeling and going through. When removing tubes and such, they were very good at telling you what you'd feel, and experience so you weren't suprised. They were very professional.

How Selected: My doctor said they might have a special rate. That was all I needed, you absolutely have to go to this hospital and see it, its remodeled, beautiful, and very professional. Take the tour online.
Competitors: The other hospital they wanted to schedule me at was dirty. The surgeon actually has stopped sending patients there.
Comments: Very private, very attentive nurses, small unit so you are guaranteed service. Value wise, they are absolutley excellent.

Comments: i was delighted to be placed on a bariatric floor, however a day after surgery i was sent to a different floor, and the staff on the floor made it a horrible experience. i went from a floor that was sympathtic to an overweight person, and everyone there was knowledgeabe about our needs to a floor, that did not meet my needs basic ( helping in and out of bed, helping in restroom, did not change sheets in 3 days, did not bring water in three days, would not answer nurse call) i complained to my doctor, as well as the hospital administrators, but recieved no response.

Comments: I am biased. I actually go to school in the Baptist Health System and I have done rotations at every Baptist in San Antonio. Being an employee there and being obese as well, I have to say that Northeast is a great bariatric hospital and everyone I've met there has been great!
