How Selected: My doctor operates there.
Competitors: Is is about the same-good and bad things about it.
Comments: I was there on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The staff was not very attentive and did not get me out of bed to walk or give me the tri-flo to breathe into. This lead to sticking lungs and breathing problems. When I was readmitted after breathing issues developed, I was not on IV, so I walked around and took care of myself. I felt when I was dependent 100% on their care, it was mediocre. Everyone was nice. I think better hand washing procedures are necessary. Understanding accents was a problem at times, but everyone was patient. Overall, I would rate my stay as mediocre.

How Selected: I live by this hospital and my doctor is affliated with this one and St. Vincents. Since this was closer - I selected this one.
Competitors: I have never been in a hospital as a patient before - but have been there for family. I was very impressed with all staff and the facilities. Everything was truly excellent.
Comments: I can't say enough about everyone at Norwalk - my initial experience was pre-ops tests - from the sleep study center; they are wonderful people - to the check in volunteers and nurses when you come in for surgery; to the nurses in the operating room and then post-op - everyone is very supportive and excellent. The check on you frequently and everyone was really nice and pleasant to help. I was petrified since this was my first hospitalization and I was really relieved. They are a terrific team and I would recommend them highly.

How Selected: I live in Norwalk and have had many opportunities to be not only a visitor, but a patient. I am extremely comfortable recommending this hopital to anyone.
Competitors: The fact that it is not a huge hospital gives me confidence in knowing that I will not "get lost" as a patient.
Comments: Norwalk is, and always will be, my hopital of choice. Its size, staffing and general friendliness is a big plus. The doctors there are well trained, its diagnostic facilities are state of the art and the testing labs are all on site. The new Bariatric Department is wonderful and accredited.

Comments: I cannot say enough good about Norwalk Hospital. As a RN, I am very critical about nurses, nursing care, hospitals, etc.. I have had two surgeries at Norwalk Hospital. Both times have been very positive..my surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nursing staff are fantastic...and I anticipate one more visit to Norwalk Hospital in the future for postop bariatric cosmetic repair. I feel completely confident and safe in the care I receive at Norwalk Hospital. Keep up the excellent care, concern, and compassion!!!

How Selected: I didn't select Norwalk Hospital, my Dr. told me this is the one I should really use due to my weight it was the one that would best accomodate me.
Competitors: In comparison to the other hospitals I have stayed in. I have to say that Norwalk Hospital is the best. I can't say anything bad about it.
Comments: My experience at Norwalk Hospital was and extremely positive one. The nurses and the "nurses aides" were exceptionally caring and helpful. I ended up staying in the hospital for 7 days (12/29/04 - 1/5/05). I was suppose to be there 1 night. The nurses were so caring about my comfort and the way I was handling the extra stay. My family was able to stay with me to bring in the New Year. I can't say enough about the staff on 6West of Norwalk Hospital.

How Selected: This is the closest hospital both to me and to my surgeons.
Competitors: I've stayed in a variety of hospitals, and this one's among the best.
Comments: I believe the staff makes efforts to help post-op patients with pain. However, the drugs I received while I was there did just about nothing for me -- no side effects, even. I stayed up all nite reading magazines and walking the halls the night of my surgery, because I was in too much pain to sleep. Dr. Ehrlich prescribed something different when I was discharged, however, and that definitely did the trick. The rest of my recovery was mostly comfortable. Pain aside, the only other problem is that a staff member or two seemed confused about the nature of my surgery. I have a Lap-Band, and a couple of them were under the impression I'd had RNY.

Competitors: It is large and well equipped. I am a bit biased with the question because I work at another hospital in the area and feel that my hospital is more like a hotel and we try to cater to every patient. It's like staying at a hotel at my hospital.
Comments: The nurses on the floor were great and caring and didn't seem to pass judgement about me being there for WLS. They knew what they were doing in terms of the surgery and were really great with some advice and teaching.

Comments: I have been to Norwalk Hospital over 50 times in 11 years, for one reason or another. I have never had a bad experience. I feel that the staff is very professional, kind and compassionate. It is up to you to make your stay as positive as possible. The nurses are under staff, but they do their job excellent. No one likes beening in the hospital, and yes it can be every noise but the overall experience was excellent. When I didn’t understand something they were very patience in explain the processor or the medicine. I could not have asked for a better stay. To all the staff at Norwalk Hospital THANKS YOU!!!!! P.S. Thank you for the nice big gown and over sized wheel chair it is nice to see that the hospital is taking a real hard look that not very one is a size 0.
