Comments: I felt I got very attentive care while at this hospital. The nursing staff were very kind and nuturing. Any time I called for assistance, someone always responded immediately. The staff seemed genuinely concerned about my pain level and comfort. The physical therapy staff were very pleasant and informative. All of my needs were met completely. The staff met or exceeded my expectations in all areas. My only issus was that is was sometimes noisy at night and hard to sleep. Otherwise, no complaints.

Competitors: Worst experience I ever had in a hospital
Comments: Overall poor response time to my using the call button; several times it was 20-30 minutes before my needs were attended to. Two of the 6 or 7 nurses did a good (professional) job. One time it took 30 minutes and two or three calls to the nurses station to get them to turn off the beeping IV machine. I finally got up, unhooked it, and took it to the nurses station and told them to deal with it! One nurse cracked,"You're making me work too much" in front of my wife. We were flabbergasted. I would say over 50 % of the time their glucometer malfunctioned! I had mine with me so I had to use it to know what by Blood Sugar Level was. One day it got to 50 and I told them I needed something to drink quickly. They initally refused because they didn't have a doctor's authorization. It took an hour before I finally tested myself and my sugar level was at 35! I got up and marched to the nurses station and demanded something to drink. The nursing staff seemed totally unequipped to include me in my treatment in this regard. I was originally scheduled to go home Wednesday. At about 9 am I started inquiring about being discharged. It was about 3 pm before I could get a nurse in and when I asked her what was going on with my situation, she replied, "going on with what?" I had to call the patient liason and file a complaint about the poor care. That guy was attentive. One last complaint I had was I had several nurses who couldn't find veins to draw my blood. My arms were black and blue from their repeated unsuccessful attempts. One person from ICU was called and she was both professional and competent. The next day two separate technicians could not draw blood and left my arms bruised again. The second one, a lady, had a terrible bedside manner and was defensive when I expressed my concern about their staff's ability to draw blood. The doctor who stood in for my surgeon was considerate and professional. I saw him twice between Tues and Thurs. Overall, I wouldn't ever recommend Riverside Parkview Hospital to anyone. It was just a nightmare after the surgery.

How Selected: This hospital was chosen by my surgeon's office because it was closer to my home than the hosp. he usually uses and he has privalages there.

Comments: All of the staff here was very compassionate, professional and accomidatiing. I would return here for other procedures in the future.

Competitors: What I loved about ParkView is that they had a special unit dedicated to bariatric patients... the staff were trained and ready to accomodate ...I did not feel uneasy or out of place once I got to the unit... and then I could meet and visit other patients that had their surgeries the same time... we were our own support group.
Comments: I felt they did a great job of creating a unit and an atmosphere that would make bariatric patients comfortable. Kudos to you Parkview.... After this experience I would never recommend a hospital that didn't have a dedicated unit... no matter how pretty it was... it makes all the difference in the world!!!!

How Selected: Hospital is the one my surgeon, Terry Sanderfer uses. He is the absolute best doctor and is so dedicated to his patients. His new associate Dr. Coon also is a wonderful doctor with the absolute best bedside manner. I could not be more at ease with these two men managing my care..
Competitors: Above and beyond in patient care.
Comments: The hospital in genereal needs remodeling and specifically noise reduction changes. Carpeting would help to reduce noise and possibly the soft sided walls to absorb noise. The hospital is very noisey and difficult to sleep. Had to keep my door close all the time due to the noise level, especially at night.

Comments: I have to applaud the nursing staff at Parkview. They are the BEST! I had a rough time with recovery and they never left my side. There wasn't a nurse I didn't like. I was treated VERY well and felt well cared for. I knew I was getting the best and genuinely, most caring staff. I would reccomend them to anyone.

How Selected: Dr. Sanderfer's office scheduled the surgery there. I only checked to make sure TricarePrime would OK it.
Competitors: It is making a real effort to upgrade its care and knowledge of bariatric patients. I feel it will be one of the better centers in the future if it works closely with Dr. Sanderfer.
Comments: I was put in a corner of a room where an ambulatory cancer patient was housed. I could not see the TV, did not have a window, so it was dark much of the time. Physical therapy was decent but lacked bedside manner. Nurses were non-existent.

Comments: nurses in the recovery room were really loud and when asked them to lower voices she was laughing at me, and then the next day after surgery (3am)I was up walking by myself, the night staff well, they offered no help, that was the only thing that I did not like about this hospital. the rest of the stay past the second day was great the nurses were nice and helpful in every way.

How Selected: Dr. Sanderfer chose hospital.
Competitors: This the best hospital experience I have had in over 10 surgeries and 3 births. We have NEVER checked out of a hospital faster, nor had a more attentive and caring staff.
Comments: The gastric bypass C wing appears to be of the highest quality. ALL staff members, including doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, phsical therapists, chaplin, lab technicians and even housekeepers that I came in contact with were all extremely compassionate and helpful. To begin with, I have never had such a painless IV, the Anesthesiologist was wonderful. The upbeat OR nusrses had music playing, which soothed my nerves. The C wing staff was the BEST, all of them, but especially Lisa, Bill and Barbara. They were supportive, always quick to answer call buttons, and always took their time to deliver a refreshing dose of humor, which is very important in my personal recuperation. I can't thank them enough. It's not easy to spend day after day not eating during recovery, and their commitment to my success helped me get through it. Their obvious devotion to this life enhancing surgical procedure reassured me that I had made the right decision. Dr. Sanderfer is the most compassionate, dedicated doctor I have ever known, and he should be commended for his devotion to his work. The countless hours he spends at the hospital, office and support group meetings more than demonstrates his commitment to his patients care and well-being. He's the BEST. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to enthusiasticly share with you what I believe to be a new beginning in my life.

Competitors: My first impression was that it was rather small and in need of a little sprucing up. However, this all changed during my stay. The hospital and staff are wonderful and they are in the midst of remodeling the rooms.
Comments: I can't say enough about the staff on C Wing - they are terrific, always asking if everything is OK and if they can do anything to help. I had a terrific Physical Therapist, Tony, as well as wonderful Patient Care Techs, Bill and Danielle. The nurses were wonderful: especially Ray on the night shift. If you have reservations about Parkview, don't. It was a great experience for the most part.

Competitors: I've stayed at Inland for other surgeries but nothing can compare to what this stay was like. There was only 1 other patient same as me, so the ratio was 1 nurse to 2 of us, they were taking care of us like Grandma's with their 1st grandchild. It was overwhelming yet so calming.
Comments: The Staff were so pleasant and accomodating. I had no problems with pain medications or anything really. I truly did not want to leave had it all there, LOL. Only thing was not many tv channels to choose from, but if that was my only complaint then forget it..

Competitors: Its a small hospital, but the nurses were excellent, physical therapy was great. Everyone was helpful.
Comments: I felt I received excellent care. The only thing I would have liked was if they would have helped me to the shower. Surgery on Monday, and I sweated like a pig for 3 days after that... they would change the sheets daily, give me clean gown, but I would have really liked to have sat in the shower each day even if I could haven't bathed myself.... but Mom came on Thursday and I got a bath then and was able to shower myself after that.

Comments: Took 4.5 hours to get moraphine drip hooked up after surgery. I was in horrible pain. April 1, 2004 A full year post-op and Parkview is billing me for a portion of the funds my insurance didn't pay for my surgery. The hospital doesn't not take all insurance's companies as payment in full. Make sure you get everything in writing. My IV blew outand my wrist and armed was swelling painfully. I waited for nearly 2.5 hours for assistance. I finally removed the needle myself.
