Competitors: I had an emergency situation and felt they were unprepared and unskilled. Seek Tulane, Oschners, etc, not this hospital.
Comments: My ICU stay was atrocious. I wasn't even given a callbell. The nurses didn't want to be bothered. Most are from out of state and drive in to work so no continuity of care. I contracted a wound infection before I left the hospital. The hospital was filthy, very little housekeeping and trash cans overflowing everywhere. I will not return there, nor send anyone I care about.

How Selected: Insurance covered this hospital and doctor.
Competitors: Medically, it is a very good hospital. The nurses ranged from excellent to unresponsive to needs.
Comments: Security is a weak link. My wife's purse was stolen while we were sleeping in the hospital room; it was less than five feet from us. Be very careful with security issues. Always get a security escort to your car after dark. DEMAND that hospital personnel KEEP your room door completely closed. In the night when they came to do vitals the door often doesn't get shut all the way allowing visitors in the hall easy access to your room. Also be very wary of housekeeping, keep a close eye on them during cleaning.

How Selected: This is the only facility my Doctor performs the surgery.
Competitors: This is the worst hospital I have ever stayed at in my entire life and the staff is very unprofessional and uncaring. I met only about two staff members in my entire stint at the hospital who was kind and sincere. The nurses told me stories about how the parking area is not safe at night and how one nurse was physically attacked and robbed. Another nurse told me that several patients vehicles were stole from the parking lot. The hallways at night seems to be very unsafe and its like almost any stranger could walk into your room. The staff was cold and uncaring and had to be buzzed ten to twelve times before they would come to your room. The best part of the hospital was the icu. SOME of the nurses and supporting staff were friendly, caring, and patient. But I met a few who were pushy and did not want to be bothered.
Comments: I have been to several different hospitals and the experience was superb. The staff members attentive and caring. The facility physical feature are in good condition but the staff makes it a terrible place to visit.

How Selected: This is where Dr. O'Connell does his surgeries.
Competitors: I did not have a pleasant stay in this hospital. I have personally been in Northshore Regional, and Slidell Memorial and it was so different there. IT was QUIET! I stayed with my grandmother at Baptist and EJGH and I had none of the problems at ANY of these hospitals that I had at Methodist.
Comments: Each and every nurse that came into my room was nice, sweet and attentive...ONCE THEY FINALLY GOT THERE! My needs were met physically, but sleep was elusive due to the noise and general discomfort of staying in the hospital. The nurses on the 3-11pm shift were loud and obnoxious, cutting up and whooping it up. It sounded as if they were watching a wrestling match outside of my room! At one point I needed help getting back into bed with the IV etc... I stood at the edge of my bed and cried because noone came to assist me. I sat in the chair by my bed and fell asleep for over an hour. NOONE ever came to check on me, because the IV was STILL beeping when I woke up. Also, they gave me ice chips right after the surgery, which is a no-no. They should have known better! If you have to stay in this hospital, I would definately arrange for a family member or someone to stay with you. The nurses are terribly overworked and although they are sweet as can be, they are often scarce.

Competitors: The hospital rates good to excellent in my book.
Comments: I was fortunate to have family with me at all times, they brought in a cot. So I did not have to call on the nurses that often. I also did not have any complications with my surgery, so their level of service when it really counts, like in times of emergencies, was not really tested on my visit.

Competitors: I thought it was pretty good. I had a horrible hospital experience when I was 15 with a military hospital, so nothing could be that bad. They only other times I was in the hospital was when I had my 3 children. It wasn't a bad visit at all.
Comments: I thought it was just fine. I went in for surgery on Monday and left on a Thursday. The staff was nice, especially Barb on the 6th floor. LOVED her. The gowns were very large, the wheelchair they have you leave in was very large. It was a good experience overall.

Comments: The room I had was very small and in disrepair, and was dirty. There was vomit running down the side of a chair (not from me), a dirty tissue on the floor, and blood spatters on the wall next to my bed. Not to mention the fact that they wake you us every 45 minutes to check vitals, and several times over my 3 day stay the nurses didn't keep track of who had checked in on me, and two different nurses would wake me up to check vitals within a few minutes of each other.

Comments: I had to keep at the nurses to check the cathather, for some reason they didn't want to dump it. I also had to remind them I had a pad on for more then 24 hours without it being changed. I had to call for them some time 2 and 3 times before they came. I am not saying all the nurses were bad, they did have a few pretty good ones but for the over all they were very poor. I really think this is the reason I got a urinary and kidney infection.

Comments: One of the nurses in Surger/recovery was just horrible. She argued with my doctor and when I was being wheeled to my room, she banged into EVERY wall available at Pendleton. It was a very painful trip, and I don't think she really cared!

Comments: there were 2 occasions in my four day stay that i had to wait unusually long for someone to come to my room......on both occasions my nurse was "busy" with other patients or in report......i, myself, am a nurse and know that someone else should have been courteous enough to have come to see what i needed....especially when both times i called involved the central line in my neck.....

Comments: During my preops the xray tech made moo noises I could hear, I reported it and he was severly repremanded immediately. I was in icu the first 3 or 4 days and recieve TOP care there. I had a nurse on the after surgery floor that was very nice. I am glad my husband was there to help me.

How Selected: This is the hospital my doctor uses for all his gastric bypass surgeries.
Competitors: I have not stayed in any other hospitals for more than overnight so I cannot give an accurate opinion.
Comments: The hospital was great as far as how it handles the needs of obese people. The nurses were not that impressive. The best care I got was when students would come in to do vital signs. They were helpful and encouraging. The on staff nurses were hard to find and did not seem to be worried if you were comfortable or not.
