How Selected: i thought this hospital would be able to handle any complications that i might have during or after surgery and would not have to be transferred to a larger hospital
Competitors: this hospital would get a low rating compared to baylor university medical center
Comments: i was very disappointed in the care, staffing, and privacy of this hospital. I had to ask for towels each day and if it was not for my physician checking in on me I am not sure if any thing would have been done correctly. Very disappointed in this hospital

Comments: My overall stay was average. The day(7a-7p) shift nurse was great. Very attentive and caring. The night (7p-7a) nurse was horrible. Ebby took forever to give me my pain meds and she had no sympathy for my pain. Privacy was not a hospital goal here from the lab, nurses, respiratory, to pct's. Kudos to Usha, Charlotte, Dr. Davidson, Dr. Hassaini, and others that I may have missed because I could not remember their names.

Comments: The nursing staff was fantastic, but they are understaffed. Discharge was the worst. The surgeon came to discharge me, but the nurses would not allow me to leave, claiming that I would be AMA if I left. It caused us to not arrive at my home until about 9 pm the day I was discharged. I only live 15 minutes away and this was my third day in the hospital so we were definitely annoyed by this. Overall, however, you will receive great care at this facility. If you are short, you want to figure out how to deflate the bariatric bed before climbing in and out. They have no accommodations for short people who have to get in and out of bed. Also, beware the cranberry juice cocktail. It is NOT low sugar.

How Selected: I chose my surgeon first and this was the hospital he used. I then looked up reviews of the hospital and talked to people. It has a very good reputation and people told me it was a very good hospital.
Competitors: Presbyterian of Dallas is a much larger hospital than any others I have been to in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. They are better equipped to handle bariatric surgery and any complications that may arise. Staff is very knowledgeable about taking care of baritric patients.
Comments: The only con I had about the hospital was how uncomfortable my bed was.

How Selected: I was here to have emergency surgery to treat post WLS complications.
Competitors: Better than most. But you need to be assertive and be your own advocate.
Comments: Beware the bariatric coordinator. I actually fired her from my case. Most WLS patients stay on 6 east and the staff is good, but sometimes don't communicate with each other and tend to dissapear at shift change. If you need pain meds ask before 7!!!

How Selected: I selected this hospital because this is where my dr has operating privileges.
Competitors: Poor. I have been in other hospitals for overnight stays and day surgery. This was the worst I've been in.
Comments: I had a lot of trouble getting nurses to respond to me. I am a quiet person, do not complain. I should have been an ideal patient. Maybe that's why they chose to take their time changing my IV bag, getting me pain meds & gas meds. I had one nurse that was very caring. Her name was Mandy Lu. I liked her a lot. Check out time was supposed to be 11am. My dr released me at 10:30. When I asked the nurse 2 hrs later when I was going to be discharged from the hospital, she acted like she was surprised that I wanted to leave. She also acted like it was a lot of trouble to get me discharged. I didn't understand that at all. Did they expect me to stay forever? I finally got to leave the hospital around 1:30.

Comments: Over all it was a good stay. They were really busy on the day I was released so that kinda took a long time. I wasn't to bothered by it though. They last day I was thier the nurse had NO experience with Bariatric patients. That is my only bad comment about my stay.

Comments: The hospital staff was great, except for this one nurse. She was very rude, and had no sympathy for bariatric patients. The other nurses was great, one even had the surgery two years ago, and took time to come in there and talk to me about it. She even gave me her phone number if I had any more questions or problems. Other than that rude nurse everything was great. The PCT's were great also.

The xray dept. however, needs some training in emapathy with Upper GI, and comfort for the patient while doing procedures. When I had to lay down to take an xray, NO ONE even helped me lay down or get up...PAIN!!!

Competitors: This is the only hospital in DFW that I have been a patient in. Overall I thought it was a good hospital.
Comments: Overall, I was very happy with the hospital. My only two negatives were that the rooms are extremely hot and only same sex visitors are allowed overnight if you are in a semi-private room. The bright side is the hospital provided me with a fan immediately and were very accomodating with changing rooms when my first roomate was not too happy with my fan. My only regret is that I wish upon admission they had told me that my husband would not be able to stay overnight with me in a semi-private room and I would have upgraded to the private room.
