How Selected: I attended nursing school there, so I was familiar with the philosophy of the organization.
Competitors: Presby stands high above the rest in my opinion. I have been treated by 3 other hospitals in the region at various time for various conditions. Presby always stand out.
Comments: The hospital prides itself on excellence. The nursing staff receives the Magnet Award on a regular basis. As for comfort, they go out of their way to make sure you have it. From the doctors all the way to the nutrition department, everyone wants to know what they can do to help. As I've said other places, Presbyterian Hospital treats you like a guest first and foremost. I won't go anywhere else. (I am not employed by this organization.)

Competitors: I can compare to Piedmont in South Carolina, the recovery nurse's where much more friendly. Besides that, both hospitals where excellent.
Comments: The nurses and staff where so nice and very friendly. All but the recovery nurse who was a little impatient with me. I would highly recommed this hospital, just not the recovery nurse. Its to bad, I didn't catch her name.

Comments: The prepartion for surgery was great, considering I was scared to death. I had never had surgery, so this was all new to me. The staff was great. The staff in the recovery was great too. Also, when I was admitted to my room most of the nurses was great. There were a few that wasn't to helpful, but all in all I enjoyed my stay. I would definetely refer my family and friends to them.

Competitors: It was okay I guess.
Comments: The only problem I had was at night. It would take a long time for someone to come and help you. When you are hooked up to a lot of equipment and have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and need help getting free from it and they take a long time time to come, it can be horrible.

Competitors: Hard to compare - only other hospital experience has been with childbirth at the birthing center at Gaston Memorial. It's more like a 5 star hotel than a hospital so that's not a fair comparison.
Comments: The customer service was fabulous. That is one thing they pride themselves on and strive for. I received a phone call after I left the hospitall even asking about customer service. It was a great stay.

How Selected: I worked there for five years and knew the level of care I could expect from the hospital I picked.
Competitors: Beautiful. Clean and very concerned with my care. Many follow up calls to check on me and these were people who did not know I worked there.
Comments: The staff was wonderful. I had a few complications and the nurses were all on it checking in with the Dr and seeing to every need I had. I will say I did not like one of the night staff nurses but I only had her for a very short 8 hours. Thank you all for the care I recieved is the only thing I can say. I have never had a nurse give such great care. I think I saw them more than I wanted too. :) It was a wonderful place to send to recover.

How Selected: Word of mouth advertising from friends
Competitors: I think it's the best!
Comments: My care was wonderful! I will go back to Presbyterian for stage II of my WLS surgery, and recommend it to all of my friends. The only problem I had was with the people who transported me. The transporation staff was not helpful in transferring me to stretcher from bed and vice versa. I had to go down for a cat scan a few hours after surgery, and having to get out of bed and get onto the stretcher pretty much by myself made the pain excruciating. Then the student nurse who wheeled me out of the hospital at time of discharge kept running my wheelchair into baseboards and corners. It really hurt to get crashed two into obstacles two or three times on the way out of the hospital! She joked about being "a bad driver" and didn't seem concerned about my welfare at all. She didn't even apologize. But that was small stuff compared to the fantastic treatment I received from every other single staff member in the hospital. I have had 5 prior major surgeries in other hospitals, and none of their level of care came anywhere close to Presbyterian's. I will always choose Presby for my future hospital needs.

Comments: I liked Presbyterian Hospital. The staff was very nice and checked on me quite often to see if I needed anything and if I was OK. There was one nurse, Katie, who was super sweet. She was there both days I was in the hospital.

Competitors: Much better than the other "big guy" on the block---I had my original surgery there, and it was horrible.

Comments: Overall, Presby was pretty good. My only issue was that they did not provide me with a protein drink I could tollerate until the last day of my stay. What they had was not suitable for a WLS patient which I found surprising considering the number of bariatric patients they have at the hospital.
