How Selected: It was the one where my chosen doctor does his bariatric surgeries and was a network hospital for my insurance.
Competitors: Haven't been a patient in any of the other local hospitals, so no frame of reference.
Comments: This hospital has been recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. It was modern and clean. The only thing I noticed that wasn't as nice as some hospitals I've visited is that the nurses didn't have much personality. They took care of your needs, but just weren't overly friendly.

How Selected: Dr. Hamn does his WLS from this location.
Competitors: I have never been in any other hosptals in this area so can not comment or compare to others.
Comments: I love the private rooms. There was fold out sofa bed for my hubby to sleep on. Internet access was at my bedside using my TV but was difficult and slow to use. Good variety of TV channels. Staff was wonderful, informative and especially sensitive to WLS needs. I was in the new Bariatric wing and it looks like this hospital is well prepared for all types of WLS and equipment for various weight needs.

How Selected: My surgeon recommended this hospital based on my BMI and I wanted outpatient/day surgery.
Competitors: Very nice.
Comments: The only complaint I have is they neglected to tell me that I would be due for a deposit the day of my surgery...when I got there I almost had a heart attack because the intake coordinator told me I needed to give $1000.00 deposit (had me listed as staying overnight.) When she figured out I was only a day surgery it was a $200.00 deposit but I wasn't really prepared to pay this...but what can you do the morning of surgery? I had been at the hospital 2 weeks before for testing and had pre-registered so they had plenty of time to tell me about the deposit.

How Selected: This hospital was chosen by my surgeon. I really didn't have a choice.
Competitors: WOW!!! I was fortunate to be in the very new section. Everything is state of the art, from the equipment to the rooms, to the food service.
Comments: I wasn't in the pre-op section too long. I was signed in and taken to my pre-op room within 20 minutes of arrival. Since I was pre-registered, things went quick and smoothly. The staff was exceptional - nurses, doctors, anesthesiologiests, etc. Everyone treated me with the utmost respect and didn't rush me through like I was just another number. I remember being wheeled into my private room after recovery and thinking that I was in a hotel suite. Cherry wood paneling, soothing lighting, carpeted halls. All I can still say is WOW! The nurses that took care of me were top notch and catered to my every whim - not that I had many. They always asked if I needed anything or if I had any questions I needed answered. When I could finally eat - which was two days after surgery, someone from the dining department came to deliver my menu and explain my choices and how I was supposed to call it in. They made my clear liquid diet seem really special. Once I called in my "order", it was delivered within 45 minutes - and never a minute later. I can't say enough for Presby Plano. It's the first time I've been there and I'll be sure to go there again if I ever need outstanding care in the Dallas area!

Comments: Everyone there was very kind, polite, caring. They probably treated me better than any hospital I have ever been to in my life. Competitors: This hospital is outstanding compared to others in the area.
Comments: I received outstanding treatment the day of and first night of my surgery. I was neglected by the next set of nurses and techs that worked. I was not told how to order my clear liquid diet and had to request help 2-3 times if I needed assistance. I finally got upset and was asked to be released. I ended up walking out of hospital on my own.

Competitors: In comparison it is about average with the other hospitals in the area.
Comments: My My Nurse in DSCU was wonderful, my OR Nurse, Nurse in recovery and the Nurse who took me as I was tranferred from recovery to the floor were as well. However, my Nurse the day of my discharge was AWFUL!!! She cam in to see me about 10am, did no assessment, did not look at my incision sites. She came in to discharge me, removed my IV and said " OK, you're ready" I asked for a wheel chair and a buggy to carry my things down on. . . I waited an hour and she never came back. I gathered my things and walked to the Nurse's station there they all sat giggling and talking. I again asked for a wheel chair and buggy. She looked at me as if I were crazy. Needess to say, I walked to our car carrying all of my belongings. (Along with help from a family member.)

How Selected: Dr. Cribbins practices here.
Competitors: I liked that every room was a private room, most nurses were awesome. Was in ICU for 4 days and couldn't have asked for better care (except for one nurse who was on her "way out (employment-wise)" before I ever got there). Meals were SF/FF and always warm, as appropriate.
Comments: I waited for three hours in the pre-op room without anything to relax me. I asked for something to relax me and they kept saying "no." I didn't get anything in my IV until I was wheeled into the OR *3 hrs. later*!! All other surgeries that I have had at Baylor and Medical City Dallas, they gave me something to relax me as soon as they put in the IV. I was much less stressed out! Perhaps it was the choice of my doc or anesthesiolgist, but it sure made a difference in how I think I responded to the surgery post-op, in my opinion!

A big thanks to my nurses: Jasmine (Yasmeen?), Rosa, and AK. The pcts were Ginny, Shryl and I'm sorry but I can't remember the pct's name from Wednesday morning. But she was great, too!

Comments: Had a very nice stay. the nurses and Tech's were all down to earth and willing to help. Having the problems with extremely large breasts I had to have help in showering. (I needed to support my breatss to prevent the tugging on the staples) And thankfully the Tech there understood and helped me out. The food was LIQUID.. LOL.. Not bad tho when your really just wanting something to wet your mouth.
