Comments: From the time I entered the hospital for pre-op to the day I was discharged I was VERY impressed with how the employees acted towards me. I felt like every one cared about you as an individual. The staff who took care of me after surgery was some of the best I've had (and I use to work in a hospital). I can't remember all their names but they were great and seemed to care about me.Yes the hospital is a little old but the care to me was more important. I came from out of town and they treated my husband very well while he was there with me. I especially liked having a private room.

Comments: It was just older and I guess they were short staffed during my stay. I was kinda disappointed.

Comments: I really felt that either the staff was over whelmed or not knowledgeable on RNY, I had to ask about my protien, they brought me the wrong meals, didn't explain to me about counting my in take, they measured my urine out put, but only came to empty the container when I told them it was full. I told them I wasn't in pain however they kept giving me medication in my IV for pain.

Comments: The whole first night after my surgery was horrible because the IV wasn't in correctly. This set off an alarm and finally at 3:30am a nurse changed/corrected my IV. It is also unnerving when the staff speaks a language I don't understand (Spanish).

How Selected: My surgeon, Dr. Applebaum, uses this facility for his bariatric practice.
Competitors: I am not familiar with any other hospitals in El Paso but was an RN for 20 years, so I know my way around a hospital. This one is well above average on almost everything.
Comments: There is no way you are going to get excellent rest in a hospital but this one did allow me to get plenty of sleep all together. The staff was phenominal. Several of the members had had WLS themselves and made a point of checking in on you to see if they could help. The RNs, CNAs, Physical Therapists, Lab techs, everybody was very kind and helpful. Lety, Michelle and Evelyn were a few of the RNs who took care of me along with daily visits from Lori and Liz her assistant (Bariatric Office). My husband was treated like royalty while he was there also. I loved the private room. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Competitors: Don't know about other hospitals in the area but this one came with a private room and Ins. paid!
Comments: They had abn internal pharmacy problem with my PCA pump. I was locked out 4 hours the first night after surgery and not getting the adequate dosage;however, the machine would beep and I thought I was getting my morphine. I was told I was "stoic" by the anesthesiologist the next am-PLEASE- I was in pain! Turns out, I was not the only one not geting pain relief. I suggested to my doctor that they may have an IMPAIRED person in pharmacy .They were going to check in to all that. Interestingly, I have been billed by everyone but anesthesia!
