How Selected: My surgeon works only out of this hospital.
Competitors: I've never been to the other local hospital.
Comments: I found Sacred Heart to be great. The staff was very helpful with a bad anesthesia experience. It was no one's fault. I just don't react well to anesthesia. The nurses were wonderful and the CNA's were amazing. They took great care of me and helped me get up and start walking ASAP. My back was hurting really bad and I could not stay in bed long, but I was so slow to recover that I could not be up long either. They got me this great hot water pad that completely changed my entire outlook on life. My only concern is the nurses are not properly trained on bariatric post op diet (no sugar soft foods) or on not being able to take NSAID's. But as soon as I explained it they took the info and ran with it. My partner brought me some no sugar yogurt and before the CNA could bring it in the room the Nurse was checking to make sure I could eat it. I would highly recommend Sacred Heart for Surgery.

How Selected: My Dr. is across the Street and that is where he goes plus it's local and I've never had a problem with it myself
Competitors: Can't compare, haven't been in any others but did have my husband go to ER in the other one and it was not a good experience.
Comments: I was treated very nicely by all the staff. All the nurses , female one, were really nice except one male nurse I had and I didn't care for him and one visitor I had who was there when he came in to take care of some things commented on his attitude also, but the rest were great.

Comments: I think the nursing staff works very hard but there are too few of them and too many patients. I feel every patient needs an advocate with them at all times.

Comments: It was an all right experience. I complained about my IV and the nurse on that shift ignored me. Turns out the IV came out of my vein and the liquid built up in my hand. I also complained about my mouth hurting. Two seperates nurses didn't pay any attention, turns out I had thrush. That was horrible. Overall, the care was pretty good. The nurses for the most part listened and took care of my needs. I just a couple of bad ones.

How Selected: This is the hospital where my surgeon practices so I had no choice
Competitors: I would go anytime or anyday to the 'other' hospital in the valley McKenzie Willamette. The staffs treatment of patients is head and shoulder above the treatment you get at Sacred Heart. You get competent treatment at Sacred Heart and they have all the technical bells and whistles. But not kind or friendly treatment unless you get the rare night shift nurse who is there for the patients. I had one named Donn who deserves a raise by the way as far as I am concerned.
Comments: Day shift nurses are usually pretty good, night shift nurses are pretty good, but if possible have someone around to save you from the swing shift staff. I think they are there for dinner, at least that was what I heard them all telling the patients when they asked for help, I am on my way to dinner and will get right on it when I get back. My doctor ordered fluids at 4PM and after my nurse went to dinner I began to get them at 8PM.

Competitors: Above average in every area.
Comments: I have never in my life meet so many caring and wonderful nurses and cna's in my life. There was a couple of places that I answered Good, only cause of the fact that they had to wake me to give my med, and check my vitals, other than that the experience was great and caring. They are great people up there.

How Selected: This was the hospital that Dr. Flanagan does his surgeries at.
Competitors: This hospital was just as good, if not better, than any other hospital stay I have had.
Comments: Sacred Heart is a great hospital. I had a decent room, by myself, and met with very competent nursing staff. There was only one nurse (charge nurse?) who was a bit rude. When I asked for some help, she called down the hall for my scheduled nurse to "come help the GASTRIC patient!" I thought this was very insensitive. I don't think she'd yell out if I had been a cancer patient! Anyway, other than this one nurse, the entire stay was excellent. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat!

How Selected: It is the hospital my doctor works in.
Competitors: I don't know the other hospitals in the area.
Comments: The nurses and aides were very nice and helpful. They didn't tell me all I was supposed to do though. The doctor would tell me I was supposed to be doing things I wasn't doing and I felt this was the nurses job. They were very good about helping with anything I asked for and went out of their way for me. It did take a little while sometimes for them to come to the room when I called, but they always came. I felt it was a very good hospital compared with others I have been in.

How Selected: I went to Eugene to have Dr Welker do my hernia repair there since that is where he moved his practice to.
Competitors: Much better than the other OR hospital I am way too familiar with: OHSU in Portland.
Comments: I have visited several WLS patients there and have observed the nursing care to be uniformly excellent! Unfortunately the anesthesiologists are a bit "dated" and resistant in their practice regarding the use of epidurals for perioperative pain prevention.

How Selected: THIS IS THE HOSPTIAL MY SURGEON WAS ON STAFF WITH.
Competitors: THIS IS MY FIRST TIME STAYING AT A HOSPTIAL BUT IT WAS AN OVERALL GOOD EXPERIENCE.
Comments: THE NURSING AND CNA STAFF WERE FOR THE MOST PART EXCELLENT. ONE NURSE LEFT A SYRINGE IN MY I.V. WHEN SHE WAS FLUSHING IT. THE SAME NURSE REFUSED TO LISTEN TO ME WHEN I TOLD HER SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY I.V. TWO HOURS LATER THE NEW NURSE ON DUTY CAME IN AND I TOLD HER. SHE FOUND THE SYRINGE AND NOTICED THAT MY I.V. HAD INFILTRATED MY VEIN. MY LEFT HAND WAS SWOLLEN TO ABOUT THREE TIMES IT'S SIZE. I NEVER HAD THAT NURSE CARE FOR ME AGAIN. HOWEVER, EVERY OTHER NURSE AND CNA WERE EXCELLENT AND VERY CARING.
