Overall Value: Very Poor Oversized Equipped: Excellent Oversized Sensitive: Very Poor
Multi Security: Good Privacy: Very Poor Pain Medication: Very Poor
Quiet: Very Poor Visiting: Excellent Staff Responsive: Very Poor
How Selected: The hospital was pre-selected for me due to where my Dr goes...
Competitors: To compare this hospital to any others I know of puts this hospital at the bottom of the list. The nursing care was horrible - the doctor and PA care was great
Comments: The nursing care was horrible. It took over 1 1/2 hours of calling for pain medication AND finelly calling the evening nursing supervisor before I received any pain medication. The tech who takes the blood sugars did not heed my doctors written orders for the time frame for my checks, instead she did them according to her schedule. The nurse manager told my mother and me (by the way both of us are nurses) that I was on a Cardiac floor and since I had only 1 drain, I didn't present as someone with pain or in need of much (the cardiac patient typically had 3-4 or more drains).. The day nurse was asked in a nice manner to please try to be as on time as possible for my pain med - she was terribily late then tried to argue with me over what I took, how many pills I took and was mad that my mother had to go find her to remind her that it was way past my pain pill time (I have a very low pain tolerance - knew that going in). The PA's and my doc were the only good part - they seemed to care and seemed to want the best for me.

How Selected: My surgeon, Dr. Garber is on staff at St.Francis, and this is where he performs Gastric Bypass surgery.
Competitors: In my opinion, St. Francis is not as good as my local hospital.
Comments: My experience with St. Francis was ok. I found the staff, and nurses to be very young and inexperienced. While being transported for my leak test, the guy and the girl wheeling me down were talking about getting drunk, partying and so on. I found this highly inappropriate. Also the bed I was in, the kind that can be changed into a chair without moving out of the bed - no one knew how to operate it. They spent an hour fiddling with it, while I layed there VERY uncomfortable. I also feel I did not get the attention I needed from the nurses and nurses aides. After calling them it took a good half hour for them to come to the room. In the step down unit, in my opinion, things were different. There was always a nurse there, and my needs were met. Everything changed when I was moved to a normal room.

How Selected: St. Francis has an amazing reputation. If you live on Long Island, you have heard about it. This magnet hospital attracts the best physicians, surgeons and nurses. I knew if I had any needs at all, I would receive only the best care available.
Competitors: The best hospital I have ever visited.
Comments: The staff, nurses, physicians, surgeons and specialists were all VERY warm and kind. Every new person I met took the time to say hello and ask how I felt and what I needed. There was not a single instance where I felt ignored or mistreated. Thank you Dr. Garber for participating with St. Francis Hospital. And, thank you to everyone during my stay.

How Selected: choice of two hospitals that my surgeon Dr. Garber performs surgery in.
Competitors: One of the better ones
Comments: The step down room is not conducive to rest. There was a patient in there who went nuts for well over an hour in the middle of the night. I had a panic attack because of being exhausted annd bumped around by two transporters.
