How Selected: I knew to expect a poor hospital, but not horrible. I only settled on this hospital to accommodate getting my surgery during a specific time frame that I needed.
Competitors: This hosptial didn't have enough security, most of the nurses were heartless, downrigt mean, rough & the ICU nurse feel asleep!! I had to wake her up when I neede pain meds & one time to tell them to be quiet because they were talking extremely loud at 4am and I couldn't rest!!!
Comments: ST. Francis hospital in Roslyn IS GREAT! DONT GO TO ST. JOHNS!! FOR ANYTHING. There are either way to many inexperienced people, people who don't care, or old & bitter! Plust the hospital is very old.

Comments: I just want to let everyone know my experience of St. John's. First, the admitting department - unprofessional, although they were respecting my privacy, mainly about my diagnosis, (morbid obesity). But they were complaining how they had not had a break and were understaffed, one person, who was new took so long taking my information, it was longer than the time it took to do my pre-surgical testing, the poor guy did not have help. I got embarrassed in the radiology department, part of pre-surgical testing, because they put my paper, out on the counter, with al of my personnal information on it, for the world to see, including, my diagnosis, I was annoyed. I asked why they broke my confidentiality and the girl said, "thats how we do this here." I spent my first post-op night in recovery, Dr. garber's order for all his patients there I hear. The recovery room nurses had their hands full, there were 6 of us (3 gastric bypasses), and 2 nurses, and one very combative patient. I had a foley catheter, and pain medication, via iv pump, so my needs were taken cared of. However, i had to listen to them complain about being understaffed, and I really would of liked to change my position, but they were too busy, glad I had no complications. When i got up to my floor, the third floor, I got absolutely wonderful care. Karen my day nurse, margaret, my evening nurse, and the night nurse, but i forgot her name, were all terrific. When I needed help or pain medication or rang my bell, they were right there. Lorna, the nurses aid on days was wonderful and so helful.I had a loud patient next to me the first day who drove me up a wall, they did their best to keep her quiet. If you choose St. John's, I hope you are lucky enough to stay on the third floor and have my nurses.

How Selected: My surgeon gave me two options...wait six months for a better hospital or have the surgery sooner at a questionable hospital. The choice was mine.
Competitors: Very poor, unhealthily dirty and poorly maintained. Patient comfort was not a concern of the staff.
Comments: I would never willingly return to that hospital again!!!!!
