I liked that this hospital wasn't huge. A visitor didn't have to park far away and walk forever and risk getting lost to come and see me. |
| Comments: |
I loved how nice this hospital was. Every room on my floor was private so I didn't have to worry about someone else's family being loud or another patient disturbing my sleep. I also felt the staff was very kind. |

This one has the whole 3rd floor for bariatric patients only. Everyone gets a private room and the nurses and doctors are very caring and professional. |
| Comments: |
We all hate to be in the hospital but this one is the best I have ever been in. When you are there you are treated with respect and catered to your every need or request. You can have visitors whenever you want no problem. When you leave you are given a number that if you have any questions or concerns you can call them and they will help as well as calling your surgeon. I would highly recommend this hospital. |

I would not change the Bypass experience at this hospital for any others. I normally go to a different hospital in Tulsa for other matters, but would not have done so for this procedure. Southcrest is set up for this type of procedure and they have a floor specifically for Gastric patients. All furniture, etc. is oversized to accommodate their patients, nurses are trained to handle this type of procedure, etc. They were excellent. |
| Comments: |
The only problem I had was I think one nurse may have taken my pain meds at one point. I was waiting to take them as I knew about when the next dose was due. When that time came and went I asked about an hour later for them because I was in a little pain. The nurse who came in said they gave them to you. I insisted they had not as I had not been sleeping or out of it and the pain meds were by mouth at this point. She said well it says on your chart that they were given to you. I argued with her and she acted like I was kind of stupid. I knew they had not been given. I just think one of the nurses in the hospital was probably hooked on pain meds and thought I was probably out of it and took mine. Other that that, everyone was wonderful. The nurses were very knowledgeable and even when I left I called back with a question and they were able to answer it right away. I would recommend Southcrest to anyone. |

| Where my PCP practices. And where I WAS considering having my wt-loss surgery done. |
| Competitors: |
I worked in healthcare 17 years and while it was spotlessly clean and well designed, with the exception of one RN, the staff was incredibly rude, once out of ER it was frighteningly ill trained. Other hospitals I've been in may have been ill equipped, but at least tried to work with you to solve problems. |
| Comments: |
None of the floor staff knew how to do a BP on a large person! One person had the cuff up to 260/171! I still have the bruises! They could not get it thru their heads that just because a person is large doesn't mean their blood pressure is high. My husband told them repeatedly to look at the ER vitals sheet, but they didn't. I've been in many hospitals as both a patient and employee and this one was unfriendly, ill equiped and had no idea how to take care of a large person. They assumed a stereo type that just doesn't exist! Even their ancillary staff was rude to indifferent.
I would be afraid to go back there because they made mistakes in my medications and my diet. If I had been heavily medicated and not able to notice the mistakes, I'm not sure what would have happened.
I have extensive allergies and even though I had a lenghthy discussion with the dietitcian, every tray they brought was composed of at least half foods I was allergic too. And then they wonder why I'm not eating? LOL
Perhaps I hit them at a bad time, but they refused to listen to concerns I had. Refused to contact my doctor or tell me how to get in contact with him. It was not myb normal doctoe. |

I was impressed with how well the handle the ICU and BCU but they were not as responsive with the normal bariatric patients. I was disappointed that it is a hospital for bariatric surgery but the cafeteria was not WLS or diabetic friendly and fel this was a huge issue! |

On March 17, 2004, I fell out of my hospital bed. I called the nurses desk and told them "I need help getting back into my bed." They said OK and no one ever came. I managed to crawl back into my bed and then I called again and said, "I managed to get back into my bed by myself but I think someone should come and check. I think I need my binder on if I am going to be moving around this much. They replied, "OK." No one ever came. Later that afternoon my regular nurse, Diane came in and I told her. When she checked, they said that they only received the 2nd call saying I had made it into my bed by myself. There was no incident report written to my knowledge. This was very scarey and it happened at a time when none of my family was available. I called my Mother and my husband and they go there as soon as they could. |

| Comments: |
Day nursing staff, was horriable!! I was in during the week of Christmas, so maybe that is why it was low staffed. I waited over two hours to have a nurse come to sit me up, to try to walk. Was only after the doctor, came in and then called nursing staff did they finally come. In the four days there, no Nurse even offered to help me with bathing, finally last day there, I just did it myself, after I waited more than an hour for someone to come. Now night staff, your LUCKIE IF YOU GET STEVE!!! HE WAS THE BEST OF ALL THE NURSING STAFF!! |

| This is the hospital that Dr. Gorospe uses and I looked into this situation for over 1 1/2 and after all of my research and investigations, I concluded that Dr. Gorospe is the only surgeon I would go to because of his reputation, location. My research of other doctors in Oklahoma and out of state did not make me feel as comfortable as the "entire package" that came with Dr. Gorospe's procedure. |
| Competitors: |
South Crest did an excellent job taking care of my gastro needs. I WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE for GASTRO needs. I do not feel any other hospital has the accommodations that South Crest has for gastro patients. This is how I feel for gastro procedures only. |
| Comments: |
I have had several surgeries and this is the first hospital that took care of me from the minute I was admitted to the day I was discharged with excellent care. Dr. Gorospe & Dr. Kirk and their staff, along with the select nurses that actually cared for me, are the reasons I feel so great about my care. |

SouthCrest Hospital is fairly new and is conviently located off a major highway in Tulsa. It is beautifully decorated and has a very good layout. |
| Comments: |
The only negative thing I can think of was the food distribution. You got 3 meals a day but you couldn't eat all of it at one time. A gastric by-pass patient needs about 6 small amounts a day. Also, apple juice would have been better than the juice they served. |

Southcrest is an excellent hospital. They have a gastric bypass wing. I spent the first night on another floor, but was moved to the gastric bypass wing the next day. The staff was excellent (especially Steven and Kathy). The only complaint I have is that there is no scale to weigh yourself on before you leave on the entire floor. I have been to many facilities in the past year and I would rate this as A++. The cleanliness and staff are remarkable in being able to take care of your every need. |
| Comments: |
Becki the director of the Bariatric floor is a god send. She checks in with each patient daily and makes sure that the nursing staff is living up to their reputation as an excellent provider of bariatric surgery facility. The nurses were stupendous and very knowledgable in their field of expertise. They are not afraid to ask if there is any doubt they are doing the right thing as far as your care is concerned. All patients should be never be afraid to speak up about the care that they are recieving. If they know that something does not work for them, speak up. This staff listens and responds to your requests and dislikes as far as care is concerned. The only person I did not relate to was the dietician who did not show up in my room until the day before my release. I needed guidance before not later in the diet as far as how much and what I should eat on the tray. The day of my release she showed up again and was somewhat helpful but when we left from the hospital, she was at a quick stop getting cigarettes and fast food. I really thought a dietician is more health crazy but I guess everyone is human. Overall Southcrest is clean, very well maintained, and the bariatric staff is one of the best I have seen. |

I compared it to the hospital I used for my RNY which was in another state. This hospital is NEW. So it was weird that there wasnt alot of people; BUT it made for a nice stay since the staff wasnt as over worked. I did notice they didnt have recliners in the room; which was a god send when I had my surgery. I have been told they are 'on order'. |
| Comments: |
I liked it. I was put off by the pay your 'out of pocket' before surgery; felt this was 'money' grubbing; but seems its just the new 'rule' for majority of hospitals. which makes you wonder where people go for surgeries when they dont have any up front money. But generally the hospital is new, the staff not overworked and it was a nice stay |

Clean. My family was able to park their camper (self-contained) on the back of the parking lot. That provided a place for my family and children to stay when not in my room since we live 2 hours away. I don't think we would have had a place to park at one of the down town hospitals. |

Allowed my family to be very involved including pre-op. My daughter, husband and pastor were all allowed in my pre-op room. The nurses were all very positive and friendly. Really liked my surgery nurse Mickey. He made things calm and made me feel more relaxed. My family was kept updated on progress during my surgery which shortened the wait for them!! |

They said they were out of cots and recliners, but overall everything else was great. I think they kept my pain meds a bit TOO pumped up! lol |

Southcrest Hospital is an excellent hospital. It was far better than any other hospital I have been in or any of my friends or family. |
| Comments: |
My total experience with Southcrest Hospital has been absolutely wonderful. The care that I received was excellent. Every need was taken care of. My pain management was a top priority with them. They were kind, attentive, and cheerful. Medically, I responded to this type of care so much better. They were so kind and helpful that it made me want to do my part even more (get up and walk, walk, walk). They were also very helpful to my family since we lived out of town. They get an A+ rating from me in every way. |

My first staff on the 3rd floor which is the bariactric floor was fine, but I had to come back in due to complications on the put me on the 5th floor and it was horrible. I was stuck 8 times one day for them to try and hit a vein. We complained but nothing was done. I would not want to go back to this hospital. |

| This was the hospital my surgeon used. It has a hospital designed to handle wls patients. |

There were some features I liked about the hospital, like the gowns were nice and big. For the most part the care was pretty good except for Sunday night when there was 1 nurse for the whole floor. I had someone stay with me all 3 nights because of comments from previous patients. I was very glad I did because I don't think the nursing care would have been adequate to handle my needs. There were a couple of wonderful nurses and a couple of lousy ones. Having stayed at other hospitals in Tulsa, I think Southcrest has a ways to go before being able to provide continuous, quality care. |
| Comments: |
Most of the workers at Southcrest were kind and helpful. They are on the right track to providing outstanding patient care but not there quite yet. They were very accomidating to my family prior to and after surgery. |

| Comments: |
The nursing staff on the 3rd floor that was assigned to me was EXCELLENT. Tammy and Kathy were my life savers! There nursing knowledge and caring clinical professionalism made all the difference in the world. They were so attentive and made me as comfortable as possible. I LOVE them. Tammy could read my emotions one morning and knew I was having some definite emotional issues and addressed them immediately. I am eternally greatful to her for that!
The radiology dept. has some issues with me, they were very "cold" and made me feel like "I was holding them up", believe you me I was moving as fast as humanly possible the morning after surgery. Then you have to stand up and let them check for leaks while you have this great tube hanging out of your nose. They were very quick at doing the actual leak check but as far as the transporting and personal care of the patient I didn't feel very comfortable with the radiology dept.
Now, let me get to the dietician, for one thing I couldn't understand to much of what she was saying, she was from maybe the Caribbean and was extremely hard to understand and wasn't very patient friendly. But the biggest complaint is what you get sent to drink on your tray!!! After surgery, day one you get "swabs", the second day ice chips, the third day Carnation Instant Breakfast (with extra protein) and some Arginade (with extra protein). That is the NASTIEST tasting stuff I've ever encountered. We (the patients) are looking for a taste (a good one that is)
Carnation Instant Breakfast tastes OK alone but is not tolerable with the added protein and same goes for the Arginade. Have some sympathy and caring for patients whose tray consists of CRAP.. I checked with several other patients and they feel the same way. I bet the waste and cost factors are extreme. Then your brought a mid-morning snack, the same CRAP. I rather just suck on my ice chips and drink water than try to choke that CRAP down. I think a nice mid-morning snack would be a sugarless Popcicle, bet you won't find those left on the tray. Granted protein in important but after major surgery give me a treat!! Patients would be eternally greatful. I am going to a support group meeting and see if some things can be changed. This definitely needs some looking in to. |

This is a new hospital, so the facilities are outstanding. In the 14 months since my stay, they have improved some of the services for overweight. Some problems still exist. For example, they do have plus size wheel chairs - but those wheel chairs won't fit through the cafeteria doors.
The only real problem at the hospital is the one that exists everywhere: they don't have enough nurses, and they rotate them around, so even with a bariatric surgery wing, there are nurses who are just no familiar with the surgery. |

When I came out of ICU 12 hours after surgery I didn't see a nurse in my room between the hours of 10a and 7p. I called but didn't get any response. I had a fever and had to get up and walk to the nurses station to ask them to take my temp. After 7p I had good nurses but they never once advised me to what to be doing. Luckily I brought the sheets of instructions for after surgery that my doc had given in pre-op. Not one nurse ever asked if I need help out of bed. My husband and a friend helped me out of bed to the bath room and to walk. My complaints about pain weren't taken seriously and 36 hours after surgery I finally got someone to check the morphine pump and sure enough I had not had any morphine for 36 hours. |

I only have one complaint and that was with a particular male nurse. He was going to redo my IV for the 3rd time and I asked him if it was going to hurt because he was putting way up on my arm where I never had one before and he asked me, "How old are you?" very snotty. He acted like we were paining him everytime we asked him for anything, luckily I only had him for one night. |

| Itis the only one that my surgeon uses. The hospital is a new facility and all rooms are private rooms. The nursing staff is short handed so I highly recommend someone be with you at all times while you are in the hospital to look out for your welfare and to help you get up and down and to do the things you need to do like breathing and walking. It is also beneficial to have someone to help you get up and down and to make sure you are getting your meds at the right times, etc. The hospital provided my husband with a cot to sleep on and made him feel as comfortable as possible. |

I was a little disapointed with the staff, they didn't encourage me to get u and get going. Since I am a nurse myself, I knew I had to get going to recover quiker! It took 1 hour to get
something for nausea after surgery. That is something you just dont mess around with!!! I just felt like I was pretty much on my own. Thank god my husband was there at my side to help me the whole time.

Hospital was fine however, the nurses on the 3rd floor were terrrible(except for two of them one was Tammy and the other one I do not remember her name but she helped me with the recliner she'll know what I mean). When pain meds were due they would take up to 2 hours to get them to me. I was told I would get my meds one time after the nurse went down to get her lunch(can't imagine that they only had one nurse that could give me my meds)after two hours a friend of mine who is a nurse went to see where my meds were when she got to the nurse's stations she found 3 nurses looking over the new Avon book instead of getting my meds. I believe this to be terrible. When someone is in pain they need to be taken care of. You might be saying to yourselves that this is not a realistic idea and that I must not know all they things that nurses have to do during the day but stop right there because I am a student nurse and I am WELL aware of the workload of nurses. |

Far superior. Although other hospitals have been around decades, they are suffering from technology lag. Southcrest is absolutely state of the art. |
| Comments: |
Southcrest is committed to bariatric care. It has numerous technological advantages over other hosptials in the area. The facility is well-kept and appropriately staffed. An entire floor is dedicated to bariatric care with specially trained staff. Ancillary personnel such as radiology and lab are well educated in the needs of bariatric patients and provide sensitive supportive care. |

Southcrest was wonderful, and I have had experience with a couple of the hospitals in Tulsa. |
| Comments: |
Southcrest recently made their third floor the floor for gastrice bypass patients. Everything they need for an over-weight patient is on that floor. The staff was hand-picked to care for gastric bypass patients. When a dr., not associated with bypass, came in for a routine check, I asked a question and the nurse stepped right in with the answer. I got the feeling, the dr. wasn't sure of the answer, since it was related to my particular surgery, but the nurse knew the answer. |

I've been in the hospital only one other time before, but my care there wasn't very good either. Other family members have told me that they were not impressed with Southcrest's lack of personal care. |
| Comments: |
There was no personal care. If my husband hadn't stayed with me, who knows if they would have bathed me or done much of anything else? One day, they gave me a meal that consisted of clear liquids WITH sugar. Luckily, I wasn't doped up on medication at that exact moment or I might not have noticed. Another day, they forgot to bring me a meal at all. They didn't change my sheets until the morning I left, and they barely cleaned up the room during my entire stay. The biggest offense: No one believed me that my back pain was torturous for 2 straight days. I finally had to have a crying, bawling fit before a nurse finally acted like she understood my pain and tried to do something about it. I hope I never have to stay at Southcrest again. |

Hospital is poorly staffed. Too many patients and not enough nurses. Call light was left unanswered for long time or not answered at all. I was left in a baratic chair for 2 1/2 hours and my repeated calls for help were ignored. I was told someone would right there. No one never came. I had to get myself out of the chair by myself and was thrown forward in the chair very obruptly. That was extremely painful. This happened 3 days after surgery. I was in severe pain, asked for meds, nurse said not time, too soon, a family member went to the front desk to verify and it was discovered that not only was it time for pain meds but that it was 2 hours past time. I will never go back to that hospital if at all possible. |

Very easy to find in Tulsa, Much easer than other hopitals, I had test done at. |
| Comments: |
They are already expanding the Hospital, But it did not interfere with the care I received.

Understaffed and overworked nurses on the ward. |
| Comments: |
The ICU staff was WONDERFUL. They were sensitive to my needs and they were even willing to take initiative, unlike the general ward , where iI could call for hours and only have them ignore me. |
