How Selected: My doctor recommended this facility. He said that they were very well equiped and experienced in handling patients who were getting wls.
Competitors: The care was like nothing I've experienced before. The staff was senitive to my needs and caring. I only had to ask once for something and they didn't keeping for waiting for pain medication or anything else I requested. The staff is to be commended for the excellence in care.
Comments: Don't let the size of this hospital fool you. They are very well equiped to take care of all your needs. The hospital is small but took care of me like a queen. I appreciate the staff and the level of care that they gave to me.

How Selected: Suggested by Neweigh and surgeon
Competitors: It is much smaller but more specific to WLS. My only concern were if it could handle complications as well as the big hospitals. I had no issues though but do feel they were well equipped for their size.
Comments: I would select this same hospital if I had to do it over again. I was very happy with the staff and setting. I would definitely recommend this hospital to others having WLS.

How Selected: I selected Nova Body Solutions as my guide to WLS. They are based in this hospital and helped me find a surgen which used this hospital.
Competitors: I can honestly say I loved this place compared to any others I have been in. Its very calm and quiet. I think there was only one other person in a room while I was there. I just loved it and the staff!
Comments: The staff at this hospital is the greatest! I was so scared when I walked in that morning they made me feel at home. I loved my main nurse she was the greatest. I was only there one night but the way I was treated during the short time made me extremly happy with this hospital.

How Selected: Truthfully, I choose this hospital because my doctor used it, but I knew about it beforehand. A friend of mine used to work there as a nurse. I knew it had a good reputation.
Competitors: I had excellent care there. I never really rested very well because they had me up every two hours walking. They made me do what was in my best interest to get well. The nurses were great, in fact for the 2 1/2 day I was there I was mainly cared for by the same nurse.
Comments: The care was great while I was there and I have even had follow-up care. The hospital had their WLS liasion call me three times since I left the hospital to check on my progress and to see if I had any questions she could answer. I don't believe this would have happen anywhere else.

How Selected: It is the one my Dr. selected, but it worked well because it was close to home-- I was reluctant because we live so close to the med center-- but Vista was excellent!
Competitors: By far one of the best for this type of surgery!
Comments: Cannot say again how wonderful my experience was!

How Selected: I had a family member that worked there.
Competitors: The staff new how to treat the patient. I was never made to feel uncomfortable because I was over weight.
Comments: I would recomend this hospital to anyone who needed this surgery.

How Selected: surgeon is affiliated with Vista. My surgery was orginally scheduled at Inova, however it was changed by Neweigh and Dr. Jay. I do believe that was a good decision for me.
Competitors: The staff is excellent, never too busy to help you, after sugery a nurse will sit with you and will explain everything you have to do. A great hospital.
Comments: Small enough to give you personal attention but advanced enough for all your needs.

How Selected: This was the hospital that my insurance wanted me to use.
Comments: The staff was nice to me and I had my own room because the hospital wasn't crowded. I was only there a day and a half. Only two things happened that bothered me. 1st - they kept my family away from me most of the time because they said I needed rest. What I really needed was my family to be in the room with me. Second, once they took my pain pump away, I needed them to give my oral pain medicine earlier than the doctor had scheduled. After I requested it, it took them about 45 minutes to get it to me. Could have been the doctor's fault or theirs - whatever - I was in a tremendous amount of pain.

How Selected: When I visited the hospital, everything was extremely clean. The staff was very helpful before I ever entered the hospital and I was told that they do alot of these surgeries and knew how to take care of you.

How Selected: A lady that I know had surgery there and she loved it. My choices were either Twelve Oaks or Vista. Two of my friends had surgery at Twelve Oaks and HATED it. They said that the care that they recieved once they were moved to a private room was terrible!
Competitors: For Bariatric surgery it was excellent.
Comments: My first impression of Vista was not very good. When I went for my pre-op visit, the hospital seemed very small and old. I didn't feel very confident at that point, but my freinds reassured me that it was an excellent hospital. The day I went in for surgery and went to the pre-op area I completely change my view. The people there was very nice and professional. They made me feel very comfortable, they do not rush you and answer any questions that you have. Also, it was very clean. I would recommend this hospital to anyone having Bariatric surgery.

How Selected: It is used by my surgeon
Competitors: I've worked in the medical center and for the county hospital. Vista M.C. beats all of them hands down!!!!
Comments: The nurses at Vista are just ANGELS! No I have never been treated with such kindness and care. I must remember to send them flowers to thank them and soon. Everyone should have their surgery at Vista

How Selected: Nuweigh. Dr. Jay is only at 2 hospitals. The one closet to home had a long waiting list. I choose to get it done out of network.

Competitors: This hospital was a small facility that specialized in the Gastric surgery.
Comments: This was a great hospital.The staff was excellent before and after surgery. I was very impressed.

How Selected: My surgeon performs the surgery at 2 hospitals. I reviewed this website. Also, surgeries are limited to gastric weight loss surgeries and back/neck.
Competitors: Small --only 32 beds--limited clientele. Excellent service, clean, quiet, responsive to patient and family care requests. Better than the 2 I'm familiar with in a neighboring community.
Comments: The nursing ang nursing support staff are extemely knowledgeable with the exception of 1 nurse. Since I'm a nurse, I'm exceptionally critical of nursing care. There were times I really just wanted to sleep for more than 2 hours----not allowed!!!! Need to ambulate and do breathing exercises every 2 hours to prevent complications. What caught me by surprise was the nurses found that "gastro" patients do better sleeping and staying in recliners rather than beds. Tried the bed once-----lived in the recliner in the hospital and at home for 10 days. Showers are roomy, with a chair and hand-held shower head that was easy to reach.

How Selected: My Dr. operates at this hospital, and it is also close to where I live.
Competitors: Despite the hospital being small and tucked out of the way of your regular busy medical centers, the nurses and docs are just as high tech. The hospital is very CLEAN, and the staff seems to be happy to work there!
Comments: I loved my stay at Vista Medical Center. It was easy to find, easy to get in/out of, nice staff, very clean, and very accomidating.

How Selected: My surgeon uses this hospital
Comments: Staff was having a Christmas party while I was in the hospital. There were all different types of smells cooking, and I just thought that it was a little rude and felt that they could have had the food somewhere away from the patients that could not eat. They were also very very loud overnight. There was entirely too mcuh talking and even though I did not sleep while in the hospital, I doubt that I could have due to all of the noise at night. ICU was excellent!!!

How Selected: I selected the hospital from those my doctor practices at and that it had great reviews by previous patients.

How Selected: I visited the hospital twice prior to my surgery. I walked around and toured the facility, asking questions and making my own observations.

Comments: I had one nurse in ICU that was a little rough when providing care and another one as I was moved to the floor. They took good care of me but could have been a little more gentle when providing care.

Competitors: I think this hospital, though small is great. It's clean quiet and the staff is so friendly and they specialize in large patients.
Comments: I haven't had my surgery yet, but I did have mySleep Study, labs, ultrasound and a EGD(endoscopy:camera down the throat into stomach) They are great and b/c they specialize in large patients all there equipment is large so none of those wheelchairs that burn your legs from the wheels rubbing the metal.

How Selected: I didn't. My surgeon is Dr. Carlos Ferrari and I am working with him through NeWeigh and they are the ones coordinating where everything takes place
Competitors: The only other hospital I have any dealings with is Ben Taub (My son was there for a very bad broken arm) and I was not impressed with that hospital at all, so Vista is a dream compared to Ben Taub as far as I am concerned.
Comments: The staff at Vista Hospital was very friendly and accomadating. I believe that when I do get a surgery date and have my surgery, it couldn't be at a better place.

How Selected: No, my surgeon did.
Competitors: To be the size that it is, I think it was a very attentative place. Very clean and quiet.
Comments: My stay at this facility was much better than I anticipated. I was very nervous at first, but the staff was very informative about the procedure, the surgeon, and the whole before and after process. My nurses were wonderful and very attentive(Eventhough I never had to call on them because they were always checking in on me). My icu stay was the greatest.My nurse was awesome.She helped me to walk and brush my teeth after the surgery while I was still groggy.After reading some of the reviews of this hospital, I was undecided at first as to if this would be a good place for my surgery.However, I found out that if you treat people as you would like to be treated and not like a maid or servant of some sort, you will be treated with that same respect and politeness.

How Selected: Known for their work with morbidly obese patients

Comments: To date I have only had a sleep apnea test performed there. I was a little apprehensive about doing the test but I was made to feel so comfortable.The employees were dedicated yet light-hearted and were very aware of my feeling a bit insecure. The sleeping area was superb. The bedding area looked like something from home and was very fresh and clean.I felt the security was good there.I also felt they were compassionate to my current and past symptoms that have existed for years.They were very detailed in their questions and made sure I understood what they were asking and often repeating the question.They were great!

How Selected: The doctor that I chose, Dr. Carlos Ferrari, leases this hospital for its facilities and since he has done this the hospital has ordered special equipment to accommodate overweight patients, which I find commendable.
Competitors: I like the knowledge and how they are down to earth so you can understand what they are saying without all the medical jargon so I would rate them excellent.
Comments: this hospital in my opinion is excellent in care, knowledge and updated equipment as well as nice staff.

How Selected: Primarily Neweigh uses them but I also liked the convenience issue for my parents who reside in pasadena. As my father is retired and was the biggest support i had everday.
Competitors: The only other hospital i had surgery at was ClearLake Regional, and they were competent as well.
Comments: It was a clean facility, great people and upbeat atmosphere.

How Selected: I didn't select it. My Dr. did the surgeries at this hospital and another one. But this one allowed lap and the other didn't.
Competitors: Its much better because its smaller. Well mananged. Very clean. Excellent, caring staff.
Comments: I did have a couple of complaint. Its too cold. I felt my healing process would have been smoother had it not been so cold. I have bronchitis and the cold air made it difficult for me. Staff should be aware that some patients may be extra sensitive to the cologne. Also, after I was switched from the pump to oral pain medications. I wasn't given the medication on time.

Competitors: it was like any other it was a little more personal because it is so small. some of the equipment like tv controls didnt work very well BUT they were in the process of fixing all of that while i was there.This hospital was very clean. It was a little tight in the rooms because of the chairs and the beds. But for me the chair was great for the first few days, but the last night i was there was greatful for the bed and not as hard to get out of and could strech out more. So it was worth dealing with.
Comments: sorry i have not had my surgery yet so some of this may change when i do but when i went for my echo cardial gram they gave me a gown that did not fit and would not fit most people there. when asked for something larger was told there wasnt anything.there was a young lady doing the exam but her helper was a young man who was very uncomforable because this gown would not close so he got to see all of me fat and brests and all.This young man was very nice he never looked at me even after i got dressed he would not look at me eye to eye. 4-5-03 I have had my surgery now and I was very impressed with the staff. I never came acrossed anyone who worked there that was unpleasent or not sensative to my choice in having the surgery. I received all my meds. on time and they were very encouraging. Always telling me you are doing great. way to go. wont be long now. Always encourging me.I never need to call for help they were always right there for me. thank you Vista Staff.

Comments: Vista is very clean and most of the staff was great. The only bad experience I had was the morning of surgery the nurse that attempted to start my I.V. was very rude, not only did she bruise both of my arms but she had the audacity to tell me it was my fault that she couldn't start the I.V. The anesthesiologist had NO PROBLEMS starting my I.V. (the right way)

Competitors: It was very customized to the WLS and I have been in St Lukes and Memorial and Methodist and I felt I had the best most caring nurses.
Comments: I was TOTALLY IMPRESSED with the hospital cleanliness and responsive of the nurses. The nurses who made a great impression on me were Sherry, Lois and Michelle in ICU. I thought of angel everytime I saw Michelle.

The remaining floor nursing staff was unresponsive & uncaring. I recommend you having family or friend with you all times after being release from ICU. The rooms are uncomfortably crammbed since they are converting private rooms to double w/2 beds & 2 recliners. Furthermore there were bugs on the far wall, my recliner was crammed next to the wall, & the begs bit me.

How Selected: Neweigh has the doctor already with this hospital, I really didn't have any choice.
Competitors: Because this hospital just specializes in bariatric and back surgeries, I'd say they are way above average of other hospitals that have to deal with everything/anything.
Comments: The nurses were very supportive and Lois is the BEST! I did feel that the night shift seemed a little off cycle with the day shift, but mostly I think all the nurses were very professional.

How Selected: This was one of two hospitals my surgeon operated in. I didn't actually choose Vista, but I'm glad they chose Vista for me. I have never been in a hospital that accomodated the needs of overweight patients the way Vista did.
Competitors: Smaller, but by far much superior than most hospitals I have been in.
Comments: The staff at Vista is by far superior to the staff at any hospital I've ever stayed in. I loved Tricia and Stacy, PCT and Nurse. They never even frowned when I said I needed help doing something.

How Selected: Basically, this is the hospital my surgeon uses.
Competitors: This is a very small hospital that specializes in bariatric surgery and back surgery. That made it great because most of us were in there for the same thing.
Comments: The people at Vista are really concerned and take your recovery and health very seriously. That is important.

How Selected: My Doctor performed his surgery's at this hospital.
Competitors: I would recommend a Dr. who practices out of the Houston Medical Center. (My Opinion)
Comments: My Doctor performed his surgery's at this hospital. I would not have partically select this hospital to have my surgery at if I would of known at the beginning of my journey that my surgery would of been performed at this particular hospital being that it is a very small (25 beds) hospital,(i took my chances) and if the unfortunate circumstance would arise that I was in immediate danger during surgery it was very unlikely that hospital would of been equipped to deal with major trauma or in the case of a medical emergency during surgery or even after surgery I don't feel confident that they would of have the means to deal with the unexpected. I had to return back to this hospital twice they have a one room emergency room because I was experiencing terrible pains on my right side, and I waited there for 5 hours after having x-rays done. They had no doctor on duty to read my x-rays. They had to be emailed to the x-ray tech. and then the x-ray tech would call the doctor with the results. Well, after waiting and being in terrible pain, and not getting any results from anyone I left and went to another hospital emergency room. (test results came back Neg.) but I was really angry because my Dr. wanted me to stay over night at Vista and be monitored but being that they did not have any beds available I was out of luck! (luckily I was not in immediate danger) Just a lot of unexplained pain. Other than the bad experience of having to return back to this hospital my care at this hospital during my 2 day stay was average I would have to say however if you fear the unexpected please consider a larger hospital that maybe equipped to deal with major emergency's in the case that a emergency may arise during surgery. On another note this particular hospital was on the channel 11 news tonight and it wasn't all too nice. They were complaining that this hospital (owners) care more for the money than they do for the patients, and they were allowing nurses and doctors to practice without proof of medical credentials or licenses, and they also complained that the bathrooms/showers had mold and mildew, but the hospital did claim that was taken care of... To me as a past patient this really makes me nervous, and luckily I made it through surgery but I wish I was more aware of the "What If's" before I had my surgery performed here.

How Selected: Neweigh uses this hospital to perform WLs surgeries. I could not have ask for a better place.
Competitors: The hospital is small, but you receive personalized care
Comments: Not impressed with the family waiting areas, but the care and the rooms make up for it.

Competitors: They were excellent I loved everything to do with this Hospital. If I could anytime I need to go to the Hospital I would use Vista Medical Center.

Competitors: Very personable. All the staff was sooo friendly and sincerely caring!
Comments: The hospital was very small, I think only 25 beds, but the specialize in gastric bypass surgery. I would full recommed this hospital to anyone undergoing this surgery.

How Selected: This is my surgeon's (Carlos Ferrari, M.D.) hospital of choice.
Competitors: It ranks the same as any other hospital that I've had experience with.
Comments: Vista does WLS and back surgery only, so there are no "sick people germs". The nurses were fantastic. I did have a tough time getting sufficient pain medication, but I blame that on the crappy pain pumps.

Comments: I thought that the nurses and attendants really wanted me to be comfortable. Of course there is always one who will be on the cranky side, but luckily I only had to deal with her once. But as far as the staff, they were great, the hospital was clean, and the paper work was easy.

How Selected: I did not select this hospital it just so happened my doctor and several of his co-workers do surgery at this hospital every week, every other day. Which when the nurse explained to me made me feel very comfortable. This was also very conveinent for me. It was only about 4 miles from my house.
Competitors: This was a unique in stay indeed. First of all they only work on back surgery and baractric patients. So that made me feel comfortable. I knew that they had all the experience and knowledge there was to help me in any given situation. Versus going to a regular hospital where there are all types of patients, sickly ones as well. That is the last thing I wanted to do was get sick on top of having such a major surgery procedure.
Comments: The hospital was small and very clean and crisp, the colors are great. The place is really clean (that is what I look at) small and close to everything you might need ( or your family). The nurses are trained in this type of surgery so they were very informative and very, very understanding. So nice and pleasant. Very nice I can not begin to speak so highly of them. Every single nurse on staff was excellent. Not once did I receive an attitude from anyone. They were very prompt in retrieving any thing I needed wheter it be pain reliever or just ice in my water. They were excellent.

Comments: My experience over all was super, the only small problem was that my nurse in ICU the first night after surgery was sick with a horrid cough, she had NO business being at work. She was a nice and good nurse, but....she was sick.
