I have only stayed at military hospitals and this one doesn't compare - it's standards are far lower or should I say the military hospitals are far higher. |
| Comments: |
After my late afternoon surgery - I was put in a bed and left there, basically with no one checking on me. When the orderly came to take me for my leak test he was disgusted to find that I was lying in wet sheets where my JT tube had leaked - I was so weak I couldn't move. My husband had worked nights the night previous and was late getting to me but I was miserable and couldn't wait to get out. My surgeon and his staff were brilliant - the nursing staff I bet couldn't even give you my name after looking at my notes. |

| I selected WHC because of my research I did on WLS.I first learn that they did WLS from this web site.
Also because of the distance from my home. |
| Competitors: |
It's one of the best Hospitals that I've ever been to.I've been to many different hospitals over the years and I'll give WHC a 81/2 on a scale 1-10. (10 being the highest score) |
| Comments: |
My stay at WHC was very pleasant. The staff was very supportive, and was always there when I needed some one.I had one nurse that would sing to me every morning. My roommate enjoyed her as much as I did. |

Still pre-op but have been very pleased with pre-op services and kind staff. Post-op I would say I have been in better, but not since the nursing shortage and not in a major metropolitan hospital. I am from a small rural hometown with hospitals staffed by local folks. Makes a big difference. |
| Comments: |
Even though bariatric patients are concentrated on one wing of the hospital, nursing staff is rotated in from other areas and other hospitals and very few have any idea how to treat a bariatric post-op patient. I was there a total of 15 days and never had a meal tray that was correct for the diet I was on. One or two bad nurses, with just plain poor nursing skills influenced the entire stay. Actually the majority were very good. I was also there over two weekends, which in my opinion, is something to avoid. Everything is in a state of temporary chaos. |

| Per my Health Insurance. Before going I was happy that was going to the WHC, but after being there I was surprised how poorly I was treated. The doctor's are A plus, but it ends there. The worst part is that just a few nurses are causing me to feel this way about the majority of the staff that did a B plus job. |

This was the worst hospital I have ever stayed in. The staff was compelely overworked, insensitive to patient needs, and overall ineffecient bordering on dangerous! |

| My original surgery was performed in Richmond, VA; however, due to complications, I was transferred from one hospital's ER to Washington Hospital Center's ER. Once I was in the care of the surgeons, I was immediately admitted. |
| Competitors: |
Washington Hospital Center is one of the best trauma hospitals in the country. Despite what many think (the ER staff is overworked), the hospital does an excellent job with taking care of its patients. |
| Comments: |
It's understandable that when many AMOS members enter this hospital, it's for the surgical and recovery departments. I didn't have my original surgery here, but I did have an emergency revision performed by Dr. Cook (under the direction of Dr. Kirkpatrick). Yes, I was seen by many residents (my entourage, as I nicknamed them) but that wasn't a problem.
My case was very special and so were my nurses. They paid very close attention to my needs as a patient and as a human being. There are those who complain about the entourage and the nursing staff, but if one examines their attitudes, he or she might be advised to take the review with a grain of salt.
The surgical staff at Washington Hospital Center saved my life and I am eternally in their debt. It was this attitude that made the rest of my stay at the hospital (which was a little more than a week) an easy one. |

The hospital was great. The nursing staff was the worse. I had to have my family drive 2 hours and stay with me all day to help me. It took the nurses 2 hours to come and change my I.V after it went off. My phone was broke in my room and my family keep calling the nurses desk trying to get a hold of me. They nurses station wouldn't even come and give me the messages. My family was 2 hours away and was real worried.

This was my 1st stay in a hospital and it was the worst. The nurses had no compassion and they were very unorganized. |
| Comments: |
I would not recomment this hospital to anyone who is having major surgey thier attendance was horrible, they game me sugar items that made me so sick and continued throughout my stay to mix my liquids up with others. |

My hospital stay was good. But they are not goo with finding a pain medication that works for you. They are very general and I had to be seen by too many residents not tenured physicians. |

My only other hospital experiences were with Walter Reed Army and Andrews Air Force Base. Both of these hospitals provided excellent medical care as well as excellent patient care in general. Washington Hospital Center is in the same category, excellent. |
| Comments: |
The doctors and the nurses were equally interested in my care and well being. One thing I found interesting is that the nurses were curious as to why I chose this route for weight loss. At least 3 nurses that I recall asked about my decision and took time to talk to me and afterwards seemed more supportive. |

I guess I shouldn't judge the entire hospital and staff by one floor - 2NW. They are lazy and seem to come to work to socialize. |

WHC has an excellent reputation for cardiac care, butI wasn't there for cardiac care. The nurses/aides in the post-surgery area ignored my cries when I tried to communicate to them that my arm was numb. I did drift in and out of consciousness but they talked about when they were working, etc (I heard them)instead of reassuring me that I would be ok. The lab didn't label my blood and lost another tube, so both tubes had to be redrawn and I had very few veins left. The pharmacy kept bringing me one of the wrong meds, even when I told the nurses, residents, etc. that the medicine they were bringing was not interchangeable with what I took. They didn't carry three of my meds so they ended up telling my husband to bring my meds from home and I administered them to myself. |
