How Selected: This is the hospital my surgeon uses, and I've used this hospital in the past. Also, my father recently had a prolonged stay in this hospital.
Competitors: I prefer Women & Children's over St. Patrick's and Memorial. I've used all of them, and this one is just a better general experience.
Comments: The staff is friendly and helpful. The nurses are wonderful - Very accommodating! Since my release, I've been contacted 3 times by someone from the hospital regarding support groups, diet help, and just checking on my recovery. Nothing but GOOD things to say about them!!

Comments: Upon arrival at the hospital on surgery day, I had to be there at 6:00 a.m., I was taken to my room at approximately 6:10 which was wonderful, no waiting there. Everyone on that end was just absolutely wonderful. After getting the IV and all going they brought the husband back and that when the weight time begin. They were waiting for a couple of surgeons from the Houston area to observe the surgery so that they can start doing them, I was takin back for surgery until 12:15 or so but this was not the fault of the hospital, the other 2 surgeons were running late... that was fine with me, I was just laying there resting, and after being on the liquids for 1 week, I was hungry at all..just felt bad that hubby had to wait, cause they don't have comfy chairs in those rooms, after recovery and up to the room, everyone and I mean everyone was just wonderful, no complaints about this hospital at all...I give them a very high raiting!!! A++++

Comments: During every part from the time I was admitted until I left the staff was great. The doctors and nurses were friendly and helped me to feel comfortable before I went in to surgery. Afterwards I woke up with a lot of gas pains and soon after I started burping it wasn't as bad. The nurses were very responsive to my needs and continued to take care of me. I've had surgeries before but this time I never felt neglected.

Competitors: This is one of the best hospitals that I have been to.
Comments: I was so pleased with my surgery and stay here. My pre-op nurses were so amazing. They were very sweet and helpful with my pre-surgery jitters. My room was really nice. I had a one person room, which I loved the privacy. The nurses were always checking up on me to make sure I needed anything. They all were so sweet and understanding. And I have to say, thank god on their response time to my needs for pain medication. If I ever have to have another surgery, I hope my stay would be as good as I had with them.

How Selected: It was selected for me....
Competitors: It rates about the same as the ones near me. But some of the nursing staff is nicer at this hospital....
Comments: It was great... The only complaint I do have was that when I woke up from surgery I was in horrible pain in my back. I cryed for pain meds for quite a while before they would give me anything. I was very upset about that. But I told the night nurse about it and I had no problems from then on.

The room I was given was private and very spacious. There was a fold out sofa/bed for my husband and 2 chairs and a table for guests. They even had an armoire for your belongings.

Competitors: Great. Much more personal and experienced in Bariatric Surgery. Excellent atmosphere and truly caring employees.
Comments: This hospital is serious about Bariatric Surgery. The nurses whom cared for me are the same nurses that have cared for each and every one of Dr. Chung's Bariatric patients for the past two years. Their experience with so many whom were in my place was more comforting than words could express.

Comments: From the time I walked through the doors for the pre-ops, to the time I was discharged after surgery, I had the best care and a very friendly staff. I didn't have to wait for pain meds after I called, they checked on me frequently and made sure that I was as comfortable as possible.

Competitors: I usually go to Rapides General in Alexandria. The Women's and Children's hospital in Lake Charles was horrible. They were repairing it and construction workers were in and out of the floor where I was. The smell of burnt plastic or something made me so ill I had to wait in the hall in a wheel chair because I couldn't stay in my room.

Competitors: I can't imagine getting any better care anywhere else. They were great with me.
Comments: The only negative about the hospital was the major reconstruction they were in the middle of during my stay. It will be great for future patients once construction is complete. The one advantage of it, was for a private room we got 2 beds, so my husband who stayed with me around the clock was able to rest. I don't see how I could have received better care anywhere else. The staff there was wonderful to me. I do believe that patients have a lot to do with the care they receive based on their personalities and how well they treat their caregivers.

Competitors: I had always thought this hospital gave great care until this stay.
Comments: Only one of the nurses I had was really very helpful, the others never came and helped me and I had to wait at least an hour after calling for pain meds even though it was way past time for me to get them. They just were slow and didn't provide good care. My dr stressed the importance of walking 4 hrs after surgery. My nurse didn't want to help me walk. I just felt like I was ignored. They also never changed my bandages or told me how to care for my bandages and JP drain when I got home.

How Selected: Well, I am prejudice - I work there and was an instrumental part of the team that got the Bariatrics program together.
Competitors: I feel the small, friendly atmosphere is more conducive to the privacy and support that a bariatric patient needs, during this major event in their life.
Comments: As a patient and employee - this hospital is #1 in my book. I can say that the employees here genuinely care a great deal about their patients and the hospital's reputation in the community supports that.
