| I am considering weight loss surgery and this is one of the hospitals in my area offering the procedure. I came into the facility to visit a friend and took the opportunity to check it out. |

Compared to other South Jersy Hospitals I have been in I found this one to be lacking the amenities of other facilities, less efficient, not very clean, and a definite lack of professionalism exhibited by the staff. |
| Comments: |
This facility needs some major renovations and improvements in how patients and visitors are treated. While visiting there was not a chair large enough for me to sit in and I had to stand for the entire visit. It was upsetting to overhear conversations about being understaffed and complaints about administration being unsupportive. I personally do not want to be a patient in a facility that is understaffed and unhappy and appears to be insensitive to the needs of the obese population. |

I had better care than any other hospital that I have been in. |
| Comments: |
On March 27, 2007, I had the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure done at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford NJ. Marc A. Neff, M.D., who is a fantastic surgeon, and his great team performed the surgery. I could not be happier with my surgery or the treatment that I received during my whole time at Stratford. I want everyone to know that my treatment from the minute I arrived to the moment I went home was exemplary. I could not have been treated or cared for any better. Everything was done to make me as comfortable, pain free and well as possible. Any time I needed anything or anyone I had it quickly and pleasantly. Sometimes I even got things before I realized I needed it!
After I arrived on the morning of my surgery, all of the staff that I encountered before surgery was very helpful, kind and caring. They did everything they could to prepare me for surgery quickly and at the same time put me at ease. I must say they did a wonderful job. I was not the least bit nervous waiting for my surgery to begin! I felt relieved and confident that I had made the right decision in having Dr. Neff perform the surgery at Stratford and I knew everything would be all right.
During my surgery I was not awake, of course, so I cannot say much on that. I will say though that in some previous operations I have had severe nausea and vomiting right after surgery. I had informed the anesthetists of that and they said they would do their best so that wouldn’t happen this time. It did not happen this time so whatever was done with the anesthesia worked like a charm! Also with other surgeries I remember waking many times in the recovery room very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. With this surgery I don’t remember anything unpleasant at all. I was even amazed at how quickly it seemed I was settled in my own room. Just wonderful! Everything was just wonderful!
Once I was in my room everyone was doing as much for me that they could and they were always checking on me to make sure that I had everything I needed. The nursing staff of 4 East was forever coming in to see how I was. I hardly ever had to ring a bell but if I rang the bell for someone I never had to wait. It felt like they were there the instant I rang. And the thing that made it even better was that they didn’t arrive with an attitude like I was disturbing them. They arrived with a smile and they seemed happy that there was something they could help me with. I have been hospitalized many times in my life and I have NEVER experienced anything like that. The nursing staff of 4 east should be commended for their fantastic care.
I was even impressed by the food services department. They were very concerned with giving me what I needed in ways that would make it easiest for me to adjust to my new eating phase. I can’t remember the woman’s name but she even came to double check with me that everything was alright and to see if there was anything that she could do to make things better for me. This wasn’t the person who brings the trays, this was the person in charge of the food service! Impressive to say the least!
I am still in the healing stages but from what I see and know, my surgery was a major success due to the great skills, knowledge, care, and compassion of Dr. Neff, his surgical team, the nursing staff on 4 east, and all of the other fantastic people at Kennedy Stratford that were involved in my care. I will highly recommend Dr. Neff and Kennedy Stratford to any one in a second with no hesitation.
Last but not least, I also would like to comment on the room that I had. I believe the number was 480. Wow! That room was fantastic! There was plenty of room so I didn’t feel all squished and confined. As anyone fluffly knows, sometimes it is really hard moving around in confined places especially when you are not stable on your feet. There was no problem like that in this room. The view was breathtaking especially during the sunrise! That was such a wonderful way to wake in the morning! It just lifted my spirits for the whole day. My wholehearted thanks go out to Dr. Neff and all who were involved in assigning that room to me. It was the icing on the wonderful hospital experience that I had.
All in all I must say that this was the best experience I have ever had in a hospital. So many departments and people worked so well together to make this a positive experience and I want to make sure that that everyone knows that they succeeded! I want to thank all of them from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work they put into taking such great care of me and making this hospital stay the best ever!
Fantastic! Wonderful! Unbelievable! Words will never be enough to describe my feelings about Dr. Neff, his surgical team, Nursing staff of 4 East and all the staff at Kennedy Stratford involved in my care in any way.
Dr. Neff was right when he told me that I would be treated like a princess! Now I know what it must feel like to be a princess. It was wonderful being a princess for those days at the hospital!

| Although I have not yet had my WLS I was in this facility recently for other surgery and selected this hospital based on my surgeon's availability |
| Competitors: |
They are not very customer focussed and the staff is not overly professional in how they act. One thing that particularly stands out is as I was going under anesthesia I distinctly heard a very derrogative comment about my size |

I received horrendous care here. |
| Comments: |
I was left to lay alone, without a callbutton within reach for hours on end.My cries mostly went unanswered, and if someone did show up,it was to tell me"you're not my patient" or "It's almost time for me to go home" or "We're short-staffed and I don't have time for you now" The only time the nursing staff was attentive was during visiting hours, when my family was present. This was the most horrendous hospital stay I've ever had. I will not return to this hospital. |
