After meeting with Dr. Kohler three times I had the utmost confidence in her ability. The Wish Center staff is efficient and professional. They concentrate on both pre-operatiove and post operative strategies for success. All of the risks were explained thoroughly. Post surgery I am even more convinced that Dr. Kohler is a hero. I have had zero complications and am now 5 weeks post-op. I would rate Dr. Kohler a 10 out of 10! Posted on 12/23/2004 |

I had a very good first impression. The office staff was very compitent and timely. I think Dr. Koler is a very caring, informative and intuitive.
The aftercare is a big concern of hers where the aftercare program is as comprehensive as before. All the risks were explained very clearly. I believe she has a good bedside manner, looked at all aspects of care prior to surgery as well as after. Long term as well as short term. I am now waiting for surgerical date. Posted on 09/12/2004 |

1. The surgeon I originally started out with at the WISH Center in Tempe had an injury and became disabled while I was in the pre-surgery process. I then chose Dr. Koler (who I had really wanted in the first place, but she was not the one that spoke at the seminar I attended) because her credentials and bio are impressive. I also liked the fact that she is a woman, and am honored to have her as my surgeon. I support woman professionals any time I have a chance to.
2. Only improved. She is a very caring, capable surgeon.
3. The staff is mostly knowledgeable and caring. Especially the medical staff and the receptionists. Getting through to someone on the phone can be a little challenging though. The most frustrating part was dealing with the "Billing Specialist". She... [Click here for more] was never available when I phoned and would take days to get back to me, if she got back to me at all. My insurance company even complained to me that they had trouble getting a timely response from her. My husband and I felt like she did not seem to really care about me as a patient, or about my questions and concerns that I had for her. However, this could have just been a personality conflict. Others may find they have a different experience with her altogether! All-in-all, dealing with the WISH Center staff was a positive experience.
4. That she was all the way over in Tempe, AZ, and I live near Albuquerque, NM! I wish that I would have gotten to visit with her on my first pre-op visit, but was thrilled to have her on my subsequent visits.
One area I feel does need to be addressed is the communication between the WISH Center and the hospital dietician. Once I was able to ingest something besides water and ice after surgery, I was given a list of liquids to pick from. Most had some form of sugar in them, leaving only a couple of choices -- no-sugar-added apple juice or broth. The protein shake that they offered had sugar listed as the second ingredient!
5. Her favorite color is purple! Actually, I think future patients will benefit from reading my answers to the rest of these questions.
6. A lot of emphasis is placed on aftercare at the WISH Center. This is the reason I chose the center, and Dr. Koler.
7. The WISH Center has a very comprehensive program that includes both pre and post-op care. They require strict adhereance to their pre-surgery plan before they will even clear you for surgery. The pre-surgery process is a minimum of 8 weeks. They are not "heard 'em in, heard 'em out" at all, and that is the main reason I chose them.
8. Risks, among other things, are covered via CBTS (pronounced "Sibits"), or Computer Based Training Sessions. The benefit of this is that they have both visual and audio training aids, and the patient can work through each module at their own pace. The CBTS are followed up by one-on-one sessions with various experts (Regestired Diatician, nurses and/or medical assistants, Exercise Physiologist, and Surgeon). You are allowed as much time as you need to go through both the CBTS modules and to talk with the surgeon or other expert. You're given a quiz at the end of each module, to ensure you fully understand the material covered. I found this invaluable. I left each visit with all my questions and concerns addressed thoroughly, as well as some issues addressed that I hadn't even thought of.
9. Overall I give both the WISH Center and Dr. Koler a 9.5 (knocking off a half point for the frustrations of having to deal with the billing clerk). They made the ordeal as painless and stress free as possible. If I had it to do all over again, I would stick with the WISH Center and Dr. Koler.
10. Dr. Koler is very competent in her surgical skills -- I chose to have an open RNY,and you should see my incision line! She took great care in making sure it was as minimal as possible. She is also specialized in laproscopic procedures. You can tell surgery is what Dr. Koler loves to do, and she does it well! Dr. Koler also has a gentle and caring bedside manner, and her sense of humor is awesome! She is very easy to talk to, and has her patient's safety and comfort in the forefront of her mind. She also wears awesome red "clown" shoes! :)

Dr. Koler is warm and soft spoken. She is very competent and I felt at ease with her. The office staff at the Tempe Wishcenter have always been kind and considerate. It really is a new experience to have a doctor and office staff treat you like a person!!! The program at the Wishcenter is thorough and very informative. I think that Dr. Koler is superb!! She also addressed some adhesions that I had from a previous surgery. I can now sleep on my right side without pain. Posted on 06/27/2004 |

When I first met Dr. Koler I tried to figure out if I was older or younger than her. But she was very professional and answered all of my questions thoroughly. I felt comfortable enough to fly from Los Angeles for her to do my surgery. I saw her every day after my operation and she listened to my concerns and addressed them. I was very pleased with her performance as my surgeon and consultant. Posted on 10/24/2003 |

First impression was very good.
Staff very efficient.
Can't think of anything just yet.
Has done less number of surgeries than some surgeons in town but WISH center seems to have the best follow up care and training so entire package seems best.
Yes
Discussed all aspects and risks associated with surgery with me.
Haven't had surgery yet. Posted on 10/17/2003 |

Amy is friendly personable, excellent bedside manner. Took time to explain the procedure completely and the commitment needed after the surgery. She explained the risks, especially since I have had a recent incident of a blot clot.
All the people on the WISH center staff are very professional and available when you have questions. They explained what I needed to have my insurance approved... After following their instructions, my insurance approved my claim in less than 2 weeks.
So far, I am very pleased... Posted on 07/12/2003 |

Dr. Amy was in the process of concluding her practice here in metro Chicago and opening the Tempe, AZ WISH Center. I was her last surgical case here. Dr Koler friendly, professional, and very reassuring. Seeing her thru my Goal Program and prior to surgery, was gave me an increasing level of confidence, and comfort, in having her perform my surgery. The WISH Center is a whole, comprehensive program with staff from various professional practices participating in your "journey". Aftercare is part of the total program commitment; and Dr Koler did not do my aftercare. Dr Koler was very matter of fact about surgical risks - neither down-playing them, nor indulging in fright stories. Her explanations were clear, conscise and factual. Overall, I'ld give Dr Koler a 90% rating for both... [Click here for more] skill and "bedside" manner.
Which is better? I'll personally take a surley surgeon whose skill will get me out alive - I can get "bedside" and information from my own PC and research
