I thought Dr Gould was very informative and he took time to make sure my questions were answered. Aftercare was good could have been better. I would rate him a 7 on a scale of 1-10. His surgical competence was excellent bedside manner was alright. Posted on 09/06/2008 |

Dr. Gould was very pleasant. His staff is great. Claire, one of his nurses, was very nice and helpful. I had no problems with Dr. Gould or his staff and would recommend them to anyone interested in WL surgery. Posted on 09/03/2008 |

Dr. Gould is a quiet mannered skilled GI surgeon who is interested in performing gastric bypass surgeries without complications and with full patient knowledge of the procedure that they are having. He is very pleasant to talk with and invites questions. He used diagrams to show the anatomy of the GI system so I would know what was being rerouted where (I am having a RNY surgery.). He reviewed a handout that discussed surgical risks. He went over each item on the list and discussed what would be done to prevent each one. He asked me how long I had been involved in the Bariatric Program. He asked me why I wanted to have this surgery. He took a personal interest in my weight loss struggles. His complication rate is very low. I have personally heard compliments from other physicians... [Click here for more] that I know on Dr. Gould's surgical expertise and vast knowledge.
Dr. Gould is associated with Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in Manchester, NH. He performs his surgeries at the Elliot Hospital also in Manchester. The DHC in Manchester has a formal Bariatric Program. There is a requirement to attend 3 formal classes and to loose 10 lbs (and maintain the weight loss) before surgery. There is also a requirement to adhere to a Stage II diet for 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after surgery.
Bariatric Staff at DHC are fabulous. They are very knowledgeable and supportive. They celebrate along with you when you acheive your milestones.
I would highly recommend Dr. Gould and the Bariatric Program at the DHC in Manchester to anyone considering this type of surgery. Their meetings require registration because of the high volume of attendees.
Over all - "Two thumbs up!!!"

I really liked Dr. Gould. I felt that he was competent, friendly and easy to talk to. When I met with him for my pre op visit, both myself and my husband immediately felt comfortable with him. He answered all the questions we had and never made us feel rushed. When he stopped by to say hello right before my surgery, he made sure neither me or my husband had any other questions. The nurses at the Elliot Hospital also seemed to be very confident in his work, which I believe says a lot. My only disappointment was that I never saw him after my surgery when I was in the hospital; he spoke to my husband to let him know everything went well, but I guess I would have liked to have heard it from him for myself as well. My husband was extremely happy with him, as apparently as he was... [Click here for more] sitting in the waiting room, other surgeons would come in and talk to family in front of everyone else, but, Dr. Gould called him out into the hallway and spoke to him privately. That made Craig feel a lot better that nobody else was privey to our business, and I think that says a lot that Dr. Gould protected our privacy like that. I was happy with my post op care as well which included pain management, antibiotics and blood thinners. I liked the entire program at DHMC-Manchester, and would highly recommend it.

MY first impression of Dr. Gould was from the informational classes. He seemed quiet, shy and competent.
When I met him in person my first impression stuck. He was VERY patient and encouraged any and all questions I had. I didn't feel at all rushed or intimidated. I brought my husband and he made us both feel welcome. There isn't anything I didn't like about Dr. Gould.
I had great experiences with all of his office staff, with exception to Patricia Cushion, RN. I met with her only once, for my nurse visit. She may have been having a bad day, but she seemed to be very insensitive and cold toward me, in my opinion. I brought my husband, who will be my caretaker, as recommended by the dietician. She commented the room was small and he might not want to come in with... [Click here for more] me! In my opinion, the room was plenty big enough for us and I didn't bring him to sit in the waiting room.
Then she mistakenly thought I was over my weight limit and it took a few frustrating "go arounds" to get that cleared up. She explained afterward they have two databases and that was the cause of the confusion.
As the visit progressed she did "warm up" a little, but she seemed to be very insensitive toward me, in my and my husband's opinion.
Dr. Gould said he would focus on all the downsides to surgery, because he said I already knew the good parts. He wanted to be sure I knew all of the risks.
He has an aftercare program that consists of follow-up care for life. Dietitian at 1, 4, 12 months and yearly thereafter. Nurse practitioner at 4 months, 12 months and yearly thereafter. Surgeon at 1 month and as needed.
Dr. Gould is a remarkable surgeon, his bedside manner is more short and to the point, but he is caring all the same.
Eric Plumley, Dr. Gould's PA, was extremely gentle and patient when he removed my JP drain. I was extremely nervous and he took his time to explain everything he was going to do, what I would feel and made sure I was relaxed before he removed it. He was great!

Dr. Gould is a great man. He is a great surgeon...he took my gallbadder out in July. Great with follow-ups. He is the only surgeon in the program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic @ Manchester that does the WLS. So the program moves very slow. Posted on 11/25/2006 |

I had my first one-on-one appointment with Dr. Gould in August. I had heard him speak at the monthly support group meetings, and was anxious to meet him face-to-face. I was very comfortable with him and he was very direct and told me everything I must do and must not do in order to be successful. I'm one who wants to hear the whole story, not sugar coating, and he gave it to me straight.
