Dr. Spencer with "Bon Secours Medical Weight Loss Center" was wonderful! He is very up front and honest about everything. With him, you MUST quit smoking in order for him to do the surgery. He will definately let you know about that...Let's just say, he is not one to bite his tongue. The office staff were all super friendly and very compassionate! Bon Secours Medical Weight Loss Center is a comprehensive program. There is the nutrition aspect, support group and aftercare visits. To be honest, I can hardly say anything negative about the team. It may sound suspicious...I'm just truly grateful to them :)    Posted on 04/09/2008

What was your first impression of him/her? He was informative and I never felt rushed. I felt he was there to answer any questions or concerns. How would you describe his/her office staff? CAREING...SINCERE How much does he/she emphasize aftercare? They very much provide aftercare from support groups if you live in the area to a schedule of when to have blood work and fax it to them and recommendations. How did he/she address the risks of surgery? He lays it on the line. No punches , but also explains the danger of remaining heavy. How would you rate him/her overall? Out of 10? I give him and his staff a 15. They made me feel as confortable as i could be so far away from home and facing surgery. Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or... Dr. Spencer is absolutely wonderful. He has a way easing tense moments with humor and was completely understanding and answered all my questions. He was also great with my wife, who was totally nuts during the surgery day. The staff he has are simply an amazing group of people. They are so proactive about the aftercare and making sure the patient succeeds. He briefed me on all the upsides and downsides and let me make an informed choice. I am not sure if it was his surgical acumen or my otherwise good health (aside from my weight) but I was back at work the week after surgery and was on the treadmill within 7 days. I can honestly say I couldn't have done this without him.    Posted on 12/30/2007

When I met Dr. Spencer, he was straight to the point. Very, very informative just a blessing from God. Each visit Pre and Post- Op. was Great. Any question that I may have had was answered by Dr. Spenser or staff Mary or Jan at Portsmouth Naval. We met the Dr.'s and staff at support meeting which everyone was encourage to attend. Dr. Spencer advised me of the options that may occur during surgery. Open or Lap. procedure. I receive the Lap. procedure in which I was very pleased. With no doubt Dr. Spencer is 5 stars*** top of the Line. I could not ask for a better Surgeon. Now live in another state and can not attend any support meetings in VA. My surgery was March 2002 and loving my life style change. God bless Dr. David Spencer.    Posted on 07/09/2007

My first impression of him was really down to earth. Talks fast and low could hardly hear him. Over time my impression on DR.Spencer was great. I loved that he seemed well grounded and was real. He told it how it was and how things were going to be ... He didnt hesistate at all on any of my questions I had.The office staff was wonderful for the most part there were a few people that seemed to have a bad day. but nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone was and still is very helpful and full of knowledge..He emphasizes after care ALOT! And he does has a wonderful aftercare program. Right now I would rate him a 10 out of 10!    Posted on 07/06/2006

Dr. Spencer was funny and put me at ease. Although he was joking about some things, he made it very clear about complicatations and dangers were. His staff is BAR NONE the best. The program manager, Melanie was clear and consise regarding appoinments, times and what to expect from who. She put everything in writing! Jackie, the newest to the team, the dietian, went out of her way to help me find things that don't contain aspartaimine and Suclouse due my migraine reaactions. John is the Baratric nurse educator at the hospital that works with Dr. Spencer and Moore in support groups, office, and hospital settings. He mad sure we heard everything a zillion times and he was great! Dr. Spencer's entire nursing staff ROCKS! I can't believe the dedication this staff has to... [Click here for more]
