My first impression of Dr. Gladen was good.He seemed professional and knew what he was talking about because of all of his experience. He was very thorough, kind, patient, and answered all my questions. My impression of him never changed until after surgery.I had lots of complications and shortly after surgery he got his license suspended to perform any more bypass surgeries.I read this information in the newspaper when I was lying in a hospital bed.Can you imagine what went through my mind? His staff was always kind to me even after he was gone.He took some personal time off after they suspended his license and left his P.A. to care for his existing patients. This is what upset me.I didn't want his P.A. to care for me.She wasn't a surgeon; he was.He should have been there for me when... [Click here for more] I needed him; when I almost lost my life because of this procedure. As far as I know he still is not able to perform this procedure.I have no structured aftercare program to attend like he said I would. He did explain to me the risks of surgery prior to the operation.I understood them and was willing to take the chance to better the quality of my life. But I was never aware that I could get as sick as I did due to severe malnutrition and malabsorbtion.I've always thought of him as a good doctor until now.I'm sure that if he would have stuck around to care for me I wouldn't have to go through half of what I went through.Instead of having my surgeon care for me post op, I only had my family primary care physician to care for me (which he was still learning about the surgery himself, but he cared for me because I was dying and no-one else was there to do the job).I'm just blessed that I am here to share these thoughts with others right now.I am very lucky to be alive right now.

I had Kaiser ins and was not able to pick my surgeon. He no longer does the surgery and neither does his partner. He was involved in some bad pubicity around here, but I think he got a bad rap. He was kind of a small town doctor type and I think he was in over his head. He took alot of high risk pt that ended up not making it and I don't think he was completely to blame. I liked Dr. Gladen from the get go. He was very informative and helpful with any questions that my husband and I had. 10+
My impression has changed, if possible, he is sooo helpful what other doctor will give his home phone to contact him and actually call back and help. 100+
Office staff is great, helpful. 10+
You can't go wrong with him as a surgeon and doctor. It was the best decision I have ever made.
My first appointment after surgery is Tuesday. Dr. Gladen will let you know all the risks of having the surgery and not having the surgery, the final choice is yours.
Very highly rated and recommended.
His surgical compentance, bedside manner and personality is great. Posted on 02/21/2002 |

My first impression of Dr. Gladden BUSY!
Over time my impression of him did not change, it was more confirmed that his man is very, very busy saving lives.
His office staff like he, to are very busy but took the time to respond to all questions, and returned calls promptly.
The thing I liked least about Dr. Gladen was the amount of face time. Not enough (but it's like that with most drs right).
For future patients I would advise you to be patient and follow instructions. Dr. Gladen definately addressed the risk of the surgery. He performs the surgery on the highest or high riskers. He did an excellent job of stressing the risks. My overall rating of Dr. Gladen would be an 8 out of 10. I think for Dr. Gladen his surgical competence is way better than his bedside manner. I didn't... [Click here for more] see him at all after the surgery for the first 2 days ( I saw his PA). Dr. Gladen is great he makes the dream of living a healthy/happy life reachable for not just the working or "well-off class" but for the low-income and medically needy persons as well. I would highly recommend him!!!

I loved him!!! He is so caring! His staff is relaxed and cheerful. Absolutely nothing to not like about him. He is the ULTIMATE doctor! He is very dedicated to his patients. There is a support group meeting set up for aftercare, but it is not mandatory. The staff was very thorough informing me of both the benefits, and the risks. On a scale of 1-10, I'd say he is a 99! It is easy to be comfortable with him in order to discuss delicate issues, plus he is a very competent surgeon. Posted on 11/21/2001 |

He seemed to be a very nice man he was caring and patient and answered all my questions.. My first date was postponed and he did all he could to help me get into a doctor to have my tests evaluated and redone so that i could be rescheduled..
I have not gotten into the aftercare part yet so i can't really speak about that..
His office staff has been really good to me
there is one lady there i think she is the physicians asst that i dont really care for but that's life huh? Posted on 11/12/2001 |

Dr Gladen was very friendly and warm, although at first impression I felt a bit like I was being treated like a 2 year old. The materials his office sends out prior to the first consultation are almost demeaning in their simplicity, but when I spoke to Dr. Gladen one-to-one he answered all of my questions thoroughly and professionally. His office staff is a bit difficult... you need to be very firm with them to get anything accomplished. He does not have a very structured aftercare program... when I asked him about exercise he said "if it doesn't hurt you can do it". His program for food is similar... "try it, if it works great, if it doesn't wait a couple more weeks and try again".
He was very good about addressing the risks of surgery and very reassuring. Overall I think he's... [Click here for more] a very competent surgeon and I like him, he's very personable, but I do wish he had a more structured follow-up program and that the materials and video he uses were written with level of competency assumed rather than at a 5th grade level.
Surgical competence is most important, but bedside manner is also very important. A healthy combination of both is ideal.

The most friendlist Doc in the world, greatest bedside manner. Over time I realized that he was a very caring doc who believed in what he did. His office staff are great always smiling even though they are always crowded and busy. There's nothing I could say that I dislike about my doc. I was terrified about this surgery and after seeing Dr. Gladen a couple of times my fears were diminished because he is so comforting and open, he tells you like it is. Very strict about aftercare and it is very structured. Right up from the doc is very open about the risks of the surgery. Overall on a scale of 1-10 I'd rate Dr. Gladen a 12, I mean how many doctors would tell you to call them in the middle of the night if you need to? Overall a great doctor. Posted on 09/10/2001 |

My first impression was a good one, he was very nice and informative and straight to the point. My impression of him hasn't changed. His office staff is very busy and nice.
He is very busy but he will get to you.. He emphasizes alot on after care. The risks of sugery he says depends alot on how heavy you are, and then says but what are your risks of staying over weight. I would rate him a 10. I think both are very important but sugerical competence is so very important!! Posted on 09/03/2001 |
