This surgeon is no longer with the Bariatric Surgery Team at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. I got a call from the referral center at UCSF because I had not heard from UCSF since my request went out to them in August. So I sent an email, and within 24 hours someone called me and informed me that Dr. James Ostroff was no longer with the Bariatric Surgery Team. This is my FYI to you all, I hope this helps. I was waiting on my own to hear something from my doctor, but you have to do the leg work yourself, do not wait for your doctor to handle it . She did not know that he was no longer in practice there!! YIKES!    Posted on 01/12/2006

Ok, he was pretty frank. He told me I was not going to like the skin after the weight lost. They were very friendly and busy. He was always hard to contact for all my questions. He may not be the one who actually perform the surgery. He has staff that works in partnership with him. As for aftercare-he didnt talk much about this to me. Like I said he was quite frank about the extra skin he was frank about the risks involved, told me I could die. overall rating for him and his partners...I would say...1-10...I give him a 3 and his partner Dr. Andrew a 7, he had very good bedside manners.    Posted on 12/12/2004

I have a consultation scheduled for 09/28/00 with Dr. Ostroff, M.D. Dept. of Gastroenterology, University of California, San Francisco. The purpose of the consultation is to evaluate my candidacy for surgery. If I'm found to be acceptable for surgery I will report back here for additional information.    Posted on 08/11/2000
