My first impression of Dr. Brown was wow he's very young. But he was very good at listening and he explained everything to make sure I knew what I was getting into. I felt very comfortable with him and knew he really understood why I decided that this is what I wanted. His staff is the best.Nicole is his ofc contact and is in my opinion the most valuable one next to Dr.B himself. She puts up with all our questions and teary days and gets it done with those ins. co. in a few words Nicole rocks. Jodi makes sure you are informed about everything and makes you feel welcomed to the group. Rebecca our PHD is nice. She listens and gives great direction and is ready to answer any questions you have of this process. Mary Beth is also one of the staff, I had my surgery while she was away but... [Click here for more] from our support meetings I know that she too is a caring person who is there to help us on this journey to a new life. Dr. Brown and his staff emphasize before and after care as being a very big part of this process and they follow us every step of the way. Anyone thinking about having this surgery in the Nashua area should thing about attending our support meetings and see what a wonderful program Dr. Brown and his staff has and be assured that he is very attentive and informative of the risks and outcome of this process.

Dr. Brown is relatively new to the Bariatric Program, however his enthusiasm and knowledge immediately put me at ease. He is confident and cautious. The people I have spoken with who have already had the surgery cannot say enough wonderful things about him. Upon my initial appointment he thoughtfully answered all of my questions, and he seemed to genuinely care that he only chose patients that he feels are good candidates. The staff that supports Dr. Brown are all professional, caring individuals. Dr. Brown and his staff may be new to this line of care, but the experience in surgical units and care of patients in other settings certainly qualifies them for this program. I appreciate the fact that he is young, recently trained (in the latest procedures), and had a great bedside... [Click here for more] manner. Of course, the only concern I have is that he has not performed a large quantity of these surgeries, but I feel the recent training makes up for this. The support group that the staff runs is warm, friendly and safe. The staff people all arrive and are introduced so that potential patients know who they will meet with, and they get to know the personalities of the staff members. They are sure to let you know the down sides of the procedure. One patient was having a tough time with some after issues and approached the staff to see if it should be addressed at the support group meeting. The staff highly encouraged this patient to share. They stressed the fact that this was the patients support group, and to withhold information would be unfair to everyone. We discuss the positives and the negatives. I would give Dr. Brown and his staff "two thumbs up", and feel that he has both the knowledge/expertise and the warm bedside manner. Both are important, and not every surgeon is blessed with this combination.

My first impression was he was so young! I asked him what ever possesed him to choose this type of surgery as a profession. He said that when he was doing his resendentcy so many of his patients were overweight with associated health issues and all that was being done was medication. So he researched and found that the surgery was an option for some people and he felt he could give those people a new chance with life minus the obesity. That answer sold me! Dr. Brown's staff are all so helpful...all of them take the time and really are willing to help in any way possible. Dr. Brown and his staff (at least a few of them if not all) attend the monthly support meeting and help immensely. At the meetings aftercare and risks are covered repeatedly. So far I find this team A+++. Posted on 06/15/2003 |

My first impression of Dr. Brown was wow he really knows his stuff, very sincere, caring, and honest.
My impression has just been more impressive, especially with the whole surgical team.
The staff is awesome they answer all your question, and take care of any concerns, love the whole team.
So far there is nothing I dont like about the team or surgeon.
Future patients should know that they have no worry about Dr. Brown.
Dr. Brown emphasizes of after care frequently, tell you to call, call, call with any questions or problems dont hesitate. There are a lot of aftercare visits from the visits with the surgeon, pschy, dietician etc. The team has a very structured aftercare program.
There are risk's with any surgery, and with this one he tell's you all the risks, and or complications... [Click here for more] you could have. If i had to rate him on a scale 1-10 , 10 being best i would give the whole team a 10+++
Both, I belive bedside manner is very important along wiht surgical compentence.

What can you say about a man who saved your life?
I was introduced to the Bariatric program at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH through a friend. She said, GO TO THE MEETING!. So I called Mary Beth Testagrossa, RN, who developed the program and introduced myself. I went to the meeting and it literally changed my life.
I was impressed at the team that Mary Beth and Dr. Brown had put together. They shared information about the surgery, the risks, the benefits and their program. I took a deep breath and jumped on the scale. From there, there were two more required meetings to make sure that I knew what I was getting into, meetings with Dr. Brown, with Dr. Rebecca Johnston, the Psych doc to make SURE that I knew what I was getting into. Also part of the team is Jodi... [Click here for more] Boutwell, the cardiac care nurse manager who is our guardian angel. She works with us before and after surgery for two years. She often calls us to make sure we're ok. Andrea Hebert, the nutritionist makes sure that we're eating well. Nicole got me through the insurance fray with ease. The team is professional, helpful and caring.
I had ultrasounds, blood tests, xrays and echo cardiograms. That last one found an "issue" and I was delayed for a few weeks. It was Jeff who wanted to make sure that I would be ok through the surgery. It was ok with me - I wanted that too!
My open surgery was on 11/11/02 and for the six days that I was hospitalized, I never had any pain. The entire team visited me daily to make sure that I was comfortable. The nursing was first rate. I was eager to be on my way to my new life.
Now that I am a graduate, I am monitored often with blood tests to ensure adequate protein levels, have been back to see Rebecca so that she can see how I'm doing emotionally with the dramatic changes in my life. I still go to all monthly support meetings wearing my Body By Brown t-shirt. I visit new graduates with other BROWNies and share info to give back to this program that this wonderful man has given us. My life will never be the same. Ski Heil.

He is young but seemed very confident.
The Nurse coordinater Jodi is very good. The support group they run was very informative. They realy want you to understand what is ahead for you after surgery. That it is only a tool and not a cure all. You have to give 100% to lose and maintain your weight goal. It is a life altering surgery. This is all very well explained by both Dr Brown and Jodi.
