Dr. Kappa has had WLS himself! He is wonderful.
The staff is very helpful and supportive.
The aftercare is great and very structured.
I would rate Dr. Kappa and his practice a 10!
The competence and bedside manner are superior!
The only thing negative I can relate is that one time we had to wait in the office for 2 hours while Dr. Kappa was in emergancy surgery. Posted on 07/25/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Kappa was that he was very sincere and nice. He really took time to sit and talk the surgery out with me and he made me feel like he really cared. My impressions of him over time only got better, he always took the time to talk with me and answer my questions. The office staff were wonderful and still are today. Overall i would rate him great, a 10 (being the highest) and both his bedside manner and surgical competence were right on the money. Posted on 09/25/2007 |

Dr. Kappa was very proffessional. He was direct and helpful in giving advice. After my first post op visit, I hugged him and thanked him for his part in changing my life. He said he was very glad I had done so well, and said with the 96% of the people who do well, he always worried about the other 3 or 4% who start out being healthy people (other than weight) and end up becoming sick due to the surgery. I was impressed with that. It is, after all the individuals decision to have the surgery, but I was impressed that he still cared for the ones who don't do well w/it. The office staff has always been very friendly to me. Never a problem w/that. If I have a negative comment at all, it's the wait to get in w/him. I've averaged over an hour wait each visit. This probebly isn't going to... [Click here for more] be much help for those looking for a surgeon, because I've done so well post-op. You know a person's worth (or not worth) their salt when the going gets rough. I would, however, from my experience, recommend Dr. Kappa.

Dr. Kappa was fantastic before and after surgery. He encouraged my husband to come to visits with me and he answered every question we had in detail. He explained the procedure and what to expect and has a fantastic group of nurses and support behind him. I couldn't have asked for a more compassionate doctor. He also tries all the protein he recommends to his patients and knows what it is like. He explained the risks both of having the surgery and not having it. I am so thankful he was there for me when I needed him. Posted on 11/11/2006 |

My first impresion of Dr. Kappa was excellent. He was very kind and courteous, upfront and realistic. To date my impression has not changed - he continues to be upfront about things and he would not schedule my surgery 3 days before he was going on vacation because he didn't want to do my surgery and then "abandon me" as he hopped a plane out the country. I liked that. As he said - others at the hospital could take care of me just in case an emergency arose but he just didn't like that idea.
The entire Wellmont organization has a VERY structured program. You have to finish all of your "pre-work" like PCP visits, psych visit, mammogram and pap smear (with results), nutritional counselling, and program overview before you can even schedule an appointment. You feel like you... [Click here for more] have gone through the ringer but it helps you in the long run.
After care you continue to see the nutritionalist and go to support groups. He just cut you and drop you.
I would say that overall I would rate him a 9.5 with the thought that probably isn't anyone better...but what do I know.
It is best if you have really read over everything first so that you have good questions for him - if you have any. I have been very pleased to date.

Dr. Kappa is one of the most down to earth people I have met. His staff is great and they have been a lot of help. Posted on 10/15/2005 |

My appt. with Dr Bloomfield was moved up to 2/17. My first impression of him was the fact that he was younger than I imagined, but very nice and professional. He spent a long time talking to me, asking questions, and answering my questions. His nurses and staff were very nice and helpful. His age makes me wonder how experienced he is in this type surgery. But I know Dr. Kappa who is in the same group, so I know he must be more experienced that I think or he wouldn't be doing it at all. He's very thorough and askes a lot of questions. He assured me that I'll have plenty of pain medicine. And he has a group session starting soon for all his patients which I'm looking forward to.
He was very frank about the risks of the surgery. But he stressed the benefits of it too, outweighing the... [Click here for more] risks. I thought he was great overall, his apparent knowledge and his "bedside manner" were great!
