I had read several reviews of Dr. Schoen and his office on OH, and so felt very comfortable going into the office for my first consult with my list of questions and having decided on the VSG. While I thought Dr. Schoen & Dr. Rothchild were very nice and knowledgable, I was a little rattled by the fact that they and everyone else kept telling me that my insuance would not cover it. The only person who I felt believed me that I could get the insurance coverage was Sara, who is overall an amazing person!! But as time went on and I met with the drs. and got closer to my surgery date, I was able to get to know them better. They have both been very personable, caring, and just overall wonderful doctors. I feel like I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who is looking to... [Click here for more] have WLS. Like I said, Sara is just so incredible. She's always available, returns call promply, and will always help with anything she can. Breanne, Lisa, and everyone else have just been so supportive and fun to be around. I don't think I could say enough good things about Dr. Schoen and his entire staff. The staff at University Hospital was also great as I went in for my pre-op testing and during the actual surgical experience. I was very pleased with all, and would suggest anyone considering WLS meet with these people...you will not be disappointed!

I am very thankful that Dr. Schoen took me as a Medicaid client. He has a heart of gold as I can see some of the other bariatric doctors are in it it for the money.I would recommend him to anyone having the surgery. I had my consult with Dr. Schoen today... He, his fellow and entire staff... were simply amazing. I am so impressed and comfortable with his abilities. I asked so many questions.. I watched videos of surgeries before the visit and studied many books and sites. He knew everything I was speaking of, answered every question with thought and precision. Dr. Schoen is wonderful. He's been very informative and caring. His staff is terrific and have gotten everything done quickly. My first consultation with him was on 8/8/07 and my surgery is scheduled for 9/6/07. I was able to do the nutrition class and see the psychologist right away and my insurance approval came in only 2 days. He really emphasizes the after care and makes it perfectly clear that this is a TOOL, not a magic bullet. My first impression of Dr. Schoen was that he was very caring. My impression changed for the better I knew that he was sincere and not a phony. The staff was great, all were thin, so I felt a little like they might not understand what I was actually going through. Future patients should know that Dr. Schoen is a good doctor and he does care about each person. Dr Schoen really emphasizes on after care and says that our journey really starts there. I do not think that he had a great structured program for that but his nutritionalist did. He did explain the risks of the surgery throughly, and also the risks if I did not have the surgery. I would rate Dr. Schoen as one of the best from what I have heard. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner were great. After surgery... I have just meet Dr. Schoen one time. So far he has been great. He answered all my questions.
Dr. Schoen is wonderful. He and his staff took very good care of me when I was in the hospital and have continued to take good care of me. I would recomend him to anybody considering this surgery. He discusses all the options with you and answers all your questions. Posted on 11/16/2006 |

He was very careful to cover everything him self duing the consultation. instead of haveing videos or office staff do it, he made sure he knew I knew everything!!

Let's see. Dr. Schoen is nice, I suppose. Don't see too much of him, usually see his P.A. and the rest of the office staff. They are terrific, I guess they would have to be to put up with me, hehe. I don't know if everyone notices this about Dr. Schoen, but he kind of seems... annoyed, maybe, by patients? I don't know how to describe it. I just get this feeling everytime I see him that he is thinking, "Oh GOD, not another patient, I'm sooo bored, someone PLEASE stab me. GAH." or something like that. Maybe it is just me. Sure, he is nice and cares about your well-being (he DOES perform life-saving surgery on you, after all) but perhaps he needs a vacation or something. =D Hehe. Posted on 10/06/2006 |
