I've been completely impressed by the competance of Dr Higa's staff. Very efficient and friendly. Dr Higa himself? He's absolutely wonderful! When he talked with me in his office, I sincerely felt he cared, and he answered all my questions, completely. He looked me straight in the eyes when he talked to me, and when he asked me a question, he looked at me and listened! I really apreciated that. I'd rate him as AAA+++. First Impression: Very personal and friendly. I spoke with him at an informational meeting and he was very open and interested. The presentation was informative and he answered questions in a clear and easy to understand manner.

I kept hearing the name of "Kelvin Higa" when it came to the best surgeon for RNY. It was true! DR. Higa is a great surgeon! I had my surgery 04/07 and I have always felt great! He was always assurring me that all will be well, even with my skeptisism! Higa, was always making sure I understood the process and making sure I was educated in what was to take place. My original doctor was Dr. Kelly Francis and i really liked her as a physician. Because of a new job and moving to a new area (with new insurance) I had to find another doctor. Unfortunatley I have to have a revision because of a slipped band. I was referred to Dr. Higa and I have been very impressed with his credentials as well as his care and concern for my situation, especially since I was not his patient from the beginning. He is very straight forward and has a dry sense of humor that I like. Dr. Higa is a wonderful surgeon and because of his reputation I trusted him completely. ALSA is a busy office and because of this and Dr. Higa's busy schedule, I really did not ever spend much time talking with him. Dr. Higa came highly recommended by physician friends. I liked him instantly upon meeting him and his staff. He made me feel confident despite the fact that I was a high risk patient.
After care and and follow up were emphasized and reiterated. Success is highly dependent on follow through and attending support group meetings, follow up visits, all go hand in hand with being disciplined.
This week, I attended my 18 month check up. Higa was delighted with my results and as always, gave me plenty of time to ask questions during the visit. I would recommend Dr. Higa to anyone contemplating surgery. Posted on 02/23/2008 |

I liked him from the begining. He has a relaxed conversational confident quality. My impression stayed the same over time. His office staff is very busy, it was hard to get scheduled in the begining, but as I proceded, more of their attention was paid to me and they were very professional. Dr Higa has both surgical competence and a good bedside manner. I think both are important. All the risks of surgery were well addressed. I even had to take a written quiz before surgery. Aftercare may be slightly lacking, but only because I don't really need any at this time. I have my regular appointments and they encourage joining a support group-I've joined 2, plus this website :-)
I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Higa or the RNY procedure I had. I would highly recommend... [Click here for more] him to anyone.
