Dr. Steele is an excellent surgeon. I had no complications after surgery. She works out of John Hopkins in Baltimore -- You can't get any better than that. She is tough in that she will not operate on you unless she feels you have a complete understanding of the surgery, its risks, and the life changing side effects that you will have after it. But once you get past that you are good to go. And her bedside manner is incredible. Incredibly kind and great with talking to patients personally after surgery. I would giver her a 10 and the JH Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore a 10 as well. The only negative is the daytime nursing at JH. And if you deal with you main nurse you are fine. Hindsight being 20/20... Because JH is a teaching hospital, the day nursing staff has a... [Click here for more] head nurse and a training nurse assigned to you. Next time I will deal any important issues with my main nurse. (I was allergic to morphine and the nurse in training did not recogonize it)

On my initial consultation Dr. Steele was very informitive on what I should expect from WLS. She was an excellent listener and was supportive of my choice of surgery. She spelled everything out and put the ball in my court. Her office staff were wonderful. They also were very personable and down to earth. Although it was very busy in the office as I expected, I did not feel like a number being hearded around. Posted on 06/18/2008 |

Dr. Steele is a wonderful person as well as an excellent surgeon.
And, she is a pusher. She was on the ward the day after making sure I was getting up already.
She was also a stickler for aftercare making sure you had your protein mixes and prescriptions before you even came to the hospital for surgery. She was also very emphatic about keeping in the right amount of protein and fluid.
I liked the idea of the visiting nurse checking on me for the first couple of weeks and making sure things were on task so even though you were kicked out of the hospital a little early, the aftercare was there.
The risks were explained very well and I am still glad I have the sleeve versus the gastric bypass as I know my limitations.
My only issue was the idea of getting in the... [Click here for more] protein when you were only supposed to have a spoon or a few sips of anything you comsumed in the first couple of weeks and maybe the surgeon should emphasize that the chances of that actually happening aren't always 100%.
I would recommend her highly and I believe that a combination of surgical competence and bedside manner is what helps a patient leave the hospital intent on being successful in their goals.
Thanks again!!!

Doctor Steele's bedside manner is personable and puts you at ease. I love her and her entire staff. Everyone worked as a team to get you ready for surgery and the support after surgery is outstanding. Dr. Steele is very serious (as she should be) about this surgical procedure and ensures that her patients are educated on the pros and cons. I would rate Dr. Steele a 12 out of 10. I love my surgeon, Kimberley Steele. She really cares about her patients. She also is a skilled surgeon. So far, my stomach has been doing great. She saw me many times while i was in the hospital and when i was freaking out afterwards, she asked a couple people to come and talk to me so I thought that was great. overall, my experiences with her have been great.
Since then, during my struggle to eat right after surgery, she has been aggressive in making sure I stay on track, wanting to see me every two weeks until I feel more confident. She really wants her patients to succeed. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. I am so happy to have found her and had my RNY. Posted on 04/29/2008 |
