Very professional, caring, unrushed. Seemed to care about me and not the whole Process. He handled the office visit ,all questions without office staff. Gave me his cell and home number for any questions. Answered it too. Great bed side manner. Surgical staff and Hospital staff liked and respects him. Great experience so far. Plan to wait for your appointment. Posted on 10/18/2006 |

I really liked Dr. Martin and Dr. Raum they are 2 very wonderful people who have helped me and my life immensely! I started out at about 275 to 280 lbs! On the day of my surgery my BMI was 37.4! (I was over 40, but most some thanks to the liquid diet!) Now I am 120 lbs at 5'7 and I feel great! I exercize daily and no longer use any type of protein suppliment! I eat my protein on my plate first and still get in my protein on a daily basis! I have completely taught myself with the help of their nutritionist how to eat! I try to avoid sweets, but do partake in a creme brulee every now and then, but I always trick someone into splitting it with me. I eat meat on my plate 1st. Still use the tricks of smaller plates and utensils. Place my fork down between bites. Try to make a statement... [Click here for more] in conversation between bites. I do drink diet coke... I am a bad girl and drink carbonated diet drinks! But for the most part I don't play with the rules, I eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, and am addicted to fat free oscar meyer turkey hot dogs! The pack the protein in a little package! I also eat tuna out the can, I would have never done that before! But you get your protein where you can! I stick to The WMC chewable flinstone vitamins and have eliminated the viactive, although this would help I have devolped kidney stones, so was recommened to come off of them. But these doctors taught me how to eat to live! And I feel great! The team approach has made all the difference in the world. There was someone there to support me in every facet of the process! Someone to answer my questions and keep me on track!

Dr. Martin was and still is a very competent doctor. He saw me through my complications. I am very happy with my experiences with him. Dr. Raum is the internist that practices with Dr. Martin and it is really helpful that he is in the office, no running back and forth to a primary and a surgeon and trying to coordinate your care. They are in the same office and on the same page. That really helps. Pre-Katrina he also had a nutritionist and physiologist in the office too, but since the storm and his temporary relocation to Baton Rouge, he will only have Dr. Raum and Vonda with him. I am just grateful that I was finally able to locate where they had gone. LSU, whom they work for, was no help. Calls went unanswered and the phones at the office just rang. Posted on 01/22/2006 |

Theresa Klainer was my surgeon and Dr. Martin assisted. I met Klainer about five minutes before surgery and for a few after. I really don't have anything to say about her, she seems very professional.
I had my consult with Dr. Martin and he is wonderful. He put me at ease and made me very comfortable. He came to check on me everyday in the hospital and he even came to discharge me. He will also be handling my follow up care. He also called me for two days after to check on me at home. He is a great and caring doctor and I would highly recommend him to anyone. He makes your feel good and he makes you laugh which is a good thing when you are feeling bad. Posted on 10/03/2005 |

Dr martin is a great doctor, you could not have a better physician!
I had the surgery back in 2002 at st. Charles general hospital. The surgery has changed my life & health! His office staff was plesant to work with while guideing me through it all.
I moved away for a while but now back to stay. I have lost approx 215 lbs and looking great except for the "apron" that won't go away...
I'm now looking into "abdominoplasty" to complete my "new" me!
I can't afford the surgery but "dr. Martin" would be the only one to do it! Posted on 01/23/2005 |

I was very impressed with Dr. Martin's knowledge of the surgery and his compassion toward my needs. My impression has not changed; however, I haven't seen him in several years. His office staff was very friendly. Dr. Martin assured me that taking care of myself with diet and exercise would be critical to my success. There is a program which includes support group therapy and follow up visits. He addressed the risks of surgery and allowed me to make an informed decision to have the surgery. I have and will highly recommend Dr. Martin to those interested. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are critical to patient care.
The only negative aspect is that it is very hard to see him. Posted on 01/05/2005 |

Dr. Martin is WONDERFUL!! He and his entire staff are sooo kind. I am nothing but impressed!! The aftercare is great, too. They are all very concerned and caring. The worst thing is that you have to WAIT a long time in the office, even if you have an appointment. BUT, they warn you that it is going to be a long wait, and when it is your turn, the doctor spends all the time you need with you. I can wait for that!! They did inform you of all the risks of surgery, but did everything in their power to help prepare you physically and mentally for the surgery. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Martin and his staff for WLS. Posted on 12/08/2004 |

Dr martin is fantastic answers all your questions as if you were the first to ask it so patient.
The office staff are the most caring people.
I would say to future patients that if you choose Dr Martin you have made the right choice
I was discouraged about the length of time it took to get a surgery date but it was worth the wait
The after care program is laid out in writting for you to follow
There are group seeeions that you are required to attend before the surgery and are incouraged to attend after
When I asked about the risk I was informed oe the facts and made aware of the fact many people die of the complications of being over weight every day
I rate Dr Martin as EXCELENT
It takes both the most competent surgion with no bedside manner cannot give the peace needed... [Click here for more] to a patiet for them to be at ease for the surgery.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Martin and for that matter, everyone at the Weight Management Center (WMC). I had done a lot of research and knew I wanted him to be my surgeon. He was very personable and kind when I met him. I had a list of questions I had prepared and he graciously answered all of them and even drew me a diagram to help explain something. I can now officially say I've had EVERY surgeon in the WMC do surgery on me! I had my tummy tuck on Dec. 18th and since I had Martin and Klainer for my bypass I made sure Scalia and Paige were there for me for my tummy tuck. I'm THRILLED with the results!! I went from a 14-16 to a 10-12 and I still have some swelling in my belly which will probably last another month or so to go away completely. I've never had a flat tummy before!! It is a completely new experience!! I can't wait for the scars to fade (I'm using Mederma) so I can go get my belly button pierced!!
The WMC program is one of the best in the country and I feel very fortunate to have had my surgery there. They can run EXTREMELY late but that is only because they spend so much time with each patient. In the... [Click here for more] end, I'd rather wait and get taken care of the right way.
The WMC is so well equiped to handle bariatric patients. They have four surgeons, and endocrinologist and a staff of professionals (in-house dieticians, exercise physiologist, social worker, psychologist, 3 RNs and a nurse practitioner). It is an extremely intense program with a lot of emphasis on the post op follow up, which to me was the most important part.
I have also been blessed with the chance to now help other people through the journey of WLS. I am the Marketing Liaison at WMC and do all new patient education and get them booked to come in for assessments. I LOVE MY JOB!!!
