My first impression of Dr. Cannon was that he was very serious although he looked like a jokester. He has a quick smile and is very positive. He tells you the truth but will encourage you as well. My impression did not really change except when I was so emotional right after the surgery. Then I thought he was ignoring me when he wasn't. Just my emotional problem, not his.
His staff is the best, especially Kathy, his wife. I love her because she is the one that told me that Max would accept Medicaid. She is available to talk to day or NIGHT. She gets me answers. Micah and Deana are sweethearts and work their little behinds off making sure that I didn't have a bunch of paperwork, phone calls, etc. with Medicaid. They made the whole process easy.
The thing I like least... [Click here for more] about Max is that he can be too "matter-of-fact" with information. He sometimes sees things as black and white and tends to have no sympathy for those who do not follow the rules but remember, he went through the surgery himself and knows what it takes to make this work.
If you are a future patient, remember, he will tell you the truth whether you like it or not. I think his aftercare program beats out anyone else's. He has me in there all the time. His staff will get you answers to any questions and will do so with patience, respect and dignity.
All-in-all, Dr. Cannon is a 9 on a scale of 1-10. He's not real up to date on medications in after care but he is open to learning. After all, he is a surgeon and I would rather he spent his time learning more about surgery than medications!
His surgical competence is superb and his bedside manner is great. He has an awesome reputation in Utah, Juab and Sanpete counties. Love him, love him, love him. And remember he takes MEDICAID!

Dr. Cannon has went through a WLS himself and is very knowledgeable with the feelings you get. he is very nice, and does a very nice sewing job, as the xrays and tech showed, he's done over 300 surgerys iirc. Highly recommended if in the utah area.
His staff is most helpful in getting the approval done. Posted on 06/23/2006 |

My first impression of Dr. Cannon, knowing that he himself has had the surgery, is that he was not really very slim/fit in appearance. I was concerned about the aftercare and educational part of the surgery.
My impression changed over time when I realized that he really did know his stuff when it came to performing the surgery.
His office staff is absolutely WONDERFUL! Deana is very kind and patient. Dr. Cannon's wife also helps out and is very knowledgeable.
My least favorite thing about Dr. Cannon is his lack of patience during office visits to fully answer questions.
Future patients should know that Dr. Cannon himself does not follow the diet guidelines for post-wls.
Although aftercare is important, there is not currently a reliable, structured aftercare program.... [Click here for more] Dr. Cannon was very good at addressing the risks of the surgery and addressed all questions/concerns that I had.
I would give Dr. Cannon an overall rating of 7.5.
I would have to say that Dr. Cannon definately scores higher in the surgical competence category rather than bedside manner.
These were just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and that I am making no statements about what other people may experience.
