I have only met with Dr Choban once. BUt right from the start I appreciated her candor and up front approach to her profession. Being a nurse I enjoy a physician that comes right out and says what needs to be said. Posted on 08/21/2009 |

Wow, This lady is known and loved from here to the West Coast so I was very excited to meet her and it was a wonderful 1st meet! She is so warm, down to Earth, straight shooter and seems so one on one concerned for YOU! She makes you feel human and not less than. She takes this VERY SERIOUS! I think she'll have a great bedside manner. I hope. The back office staff are very friendly and outgoing. They are jovial and upbeat and very informative. I like that
I personally myself, don't feel the same however about the front office staff. They made me feel uncomfortable.Maybe it was just me, I was nervous. Perhaps they need a a few more employees up front to ease the stress.I wish they were as warm and kind as the back staff.Especially on empathy and communication.
I am confident that Dr.... [Click here for more] Choban will be as great as every one says she is.She is the most important part of my surgery after all.

I wanted to take a moment POST-OP to say that indeed Dr. Patricia Choban is as awesome as I thought she would be. This professional woman is an Angel in her right to the Bariatric community and I am sure she is just as awesome in any surgical capacity.
I was a little disappointed that she went out of town the day after my surgery but it all worked out and those she left in charge of me took great care of me and I came home without incident. Her honesty, wisdom, humor and true dedication to her patients shows the moment she walk through the door. I would recommend this Doctor to anyone with out hesitation.

Dr. Choban performed an open proximal RNY for me in January of 2000.
My initial impression was that Dr. Choban was down to earth, open-minded, well-informed and passionate not about making money, but in truly making a DIFFERENCE in her patients' lives and in advancing the field of bariatric surgery.
In the 8 years since my surgery, my opinion remains unchanged. Dr. Choban inspired a confidence in me that I could accomplish my goals and that she would be a singular support for me (not relying on her staff to care for me alone, but caring about me on a personal level herself).
Dr. Choban did strongly encourage aftercare, but *I* have failed to follow up after the one-year mark. I have had unresolved health problems resulting from the surgery, but these have been physiological... [Click here for more] - not surgeon-related - problems that are rare in nature.Though I failed to stick to her recommendations, Dr. Choban - even after 3 years - welcomed me back when called, gave recommendations, and even called me personally on a number of occasions to follow my progress. Again: she just flat CARES. She is both surgically competent and easy to talk to. She may be busy at times (saving as many of us as she can), but she never turned away from any question or true concern I presented.
I have attended a conference to hear Dr. Choban speak since my surgery and was even more sure sfterwards that she truly remains the best choice of physician I could have made in pursuing gastric bypass surgery!

My first impression of her was that she very down earth. very straight forward and truley cared about my feelings. The office staff was very friendly and warm from start to finish. Future patients should know she is skilled and makes you feel comfy. She expressed after care and groups I had to travel so aftercare support was my fault not a benifit. She was very clear on all aspect of the risk and benifit to this Surgery.Overall I rate her the Best of the Best. Her surgical competence and her bedside manner were perfect Posted on 05/09/2008 |

I first heard Dr. Choban speak during a Bariatric Meeting back in March. She seemed very knowledgeable and she answered a multitude of questions. When I had my first consult with her, she went over the differences between gastric bypass and lap band surgery. After reviewing my current health status, she recommended that I have the Lap Band surgery done.
I feel very comfortable with Dr. Choban because she makes you feel as ease and tells you straight up how it is. She also has an excellent bedside manner which is something that you don't see very often. My primary doctor highly recommended her because he was familiar with a lot of her work that she has done over the years. When my sleep doctor asked who was going to do my surgery, I told him, "Dr. Choban". He knew of her... [Click here for more] and said that she is one of the top Bariatric Surgeons in our area. Just another reason why I trust her is due to what others are saying about her. She is down to earth and very easy to talk to, so I am very happy that I was able to become one of her patients.

Dr. Choban is a no nonsense, true professional and expert at this surgery. She and her team did a wonderful job with my surgery and I'm so thankful for that. She is very informative and is very upfront with you. I would recommend Dr. Choban in a heartbeat to anyone who is considering gastric bypass. My incision is minimal. She used the least space that she could..to ensure a smaller scar. Dr. Choban is very pleasant and very caring. And she's wonderfully thorough and awesome at easing your mind of any concerns you may have. Posted on 04/15/2007 |

My first impression of my surgein was that she knew what she was doing and that she was a caring and very smart, experienced individual.
I was right on all the above. I cannot begin to express how awesome my surgeon is. Her knowledge is incredible and I can she why everyone I talk to about her sayd she is the best.
The office staff works great w/ you, it does seem however they may be a little short handed at times but no complaints.
I had no dislikes.
Future patients need to know that they are in perfect hands and that if they have a question that they feel may be stupid or silly- ask it because she never once made me feel like an idiot.
She very much emphasizes aftercare and makes you stick to the program.
She takes her time and explains numerous times the risks and benefits... [Click here for more] of the surgery and her staff does the same as well.
I would rate my surgeon as the top of the heap and as far as I am concerned there are no others better.
Her competence, bedside manner and all aspects are off the charts- no pun intended-.

Pat Choban is in Columbus, Ohio at Mt Carmel West. Mid Ohio Surgery Associates. Pat is one of Columbus, Ohio's leading bariatric surgeons. She performed the surgery along with Dr Philip Price, one of Columbus, Ohio's leading laporoscopic surgeons. Both were excellent!
Bariatric Co-Ordinator Wissy Webb was great as she has had weight-loss surgery and could answer a lot of questions plus she is an RN. Missy told me the ONLY doc she will let operate on her is Doctor Choban because she has also assisted her in surgery and knows what a "tight ship" she runs. That was very comforting to me.
The nurses were kind and wonderful. But don't assume a man or woman in scrubs is a doctor or nurse. Apparently, Mt Carmel cleaning staff alows the janitors to dress up like doctors and nurses... [Click here for more] too.
There were a lot of scary talks with Missy about coming home on blood-thinners for a month and how to avoid blood clots and strokes by walking early and often and staying hydrated. We were given Spirometers in which to breath so we would not develop pneumonia. Some of this was a little disconcerting, thinking about as I was going into surgery but now that it is over, I am glad they took things seriously. While the procedure is simple and nearly painless afterwards, surgery on fat patients has it's risks , so you might as well know them. :)
Doc Choban was friendly and positive and completely accessible for questions or concerns, which she addressed quickly (calling in different meds, problem solving, etc)
A simple Google of Doctor Choban will show she has the highest surgical credentials, graduating Medical School from Case Western Reserve Med School...was a Naval Surgeon and has been on bariatric surgery advisory boards from the get-go. She was part of the team that first declined use of the Lap Band in the US because of lack of proper studies and trials. She was also on the board which fnally approved the Lap Band in the US several years later and after numerous successful studies and trials.

I really like Dr. Choban. She is no nonsense and extremely thoughtful. She read my file cover to cover before coming to meet me and she took the time to read every single detail in there (and there were a lot). She knew about my father passing away as a result of complications days after his gastric bypass three years ago. She was concerned about how my family was feeling about my surgery. She was comforting and supportive. Posted on 11/01/2006 |
