I haven't met him yet. But I have met his partner Dr Coirin.
The staff that I have talked to are nice and well informed.
Both Dr's have just recieved thier COE certification.
At the siminar everything was explained in detail.
I think I will be happy with Dr Coates and his staff.
I know both surgeons are very busy and don't always get time to see their patients one on one until the day of surgery. I don't care for that idea but I do understand it.

He was very nice.
My first impression changed over the time when my surgery date came near. Coats was an hour late to my pre-opt appt.
My friend told me about him.
He's good at what he does; just needs help on bed side maner. Posted on 07/28/2008 |

So far, so good. I had a blip in the insurance deal. I am waiting on his staff to correct everything and get me back in. Surgery was on June 26th. I am just sitting here waiting to get it rescheduled. I meet the Doc, he seems to be great, and staff is great and so pleasant. Posted on 07/02/2008 |

Dr. Coates was great as was his office staff through the entire process. I would definitely recommend him to everyone. He has done thousands of procedures and that's all I care about. My surgery went very smooth and my recovery time was about a week. Posted on 06/03/2008 |

I have been a patient of Dr. Coates for nine monthes, and I have lost 100 lbs. I think he is a wonderful surgeon, and his staff are awesome, they are all very heploful with anything I needed prior to surgery and after as well. Y ou can always call and be met by a friendly voice.Anybody in the Modesto area thinking about Bariatric surgery, should give them call, it will be the start to your new life. He was very attentative in the hospital, and Dianne is very knowledgable if I ever have questions. Posted on 05/14/2008 |

I didn't even SEE Dr. Coates at any point of my surgery or my stay in the hospital. I think that since he had my life in his hands that maybe he could have stopped by. Oh well, I'll take surgical compentence over bedside manner any day. Other than that, when I met him for 10 minutes at my first Pre-Op appt, he seemed nice enough. Good luck! Posted on 05/04/2008 |

Dr. Coates seemed like a great surgeon at the seminar, fairly intelligent, but he wasn't the same in the hospital. I didn't get to meet him before my operation. I actually had to wait until my 4th day in the hospital before he could make time for me. Apparently, he nicked something while operating and it caused quite a bit of bleeding that lasted several days. It got so bad that I almost had to have a blood transfusion. I appreciate what the doc did for me and does for others, and everybody makes mistakes, and I lived...thanks to the hospital staff. I was ready to check out and go home and had to wait for him to come to my room before I could leave. He spent about 2-3 minutes with me, mostly looking at my bruises, and then "poof" he was gone. So far this hasn't been a very good experience... [Click here for more] for me at all.

My surgery is scheduled but I have not yet met my surgeon! I saw his partner at the first seminar I attended but have not seen him yet. I hope to see him at my pre-op physical. If not I will insist on meeting the man who will be caring for me on the operating table. They have a very busy practice. I'm not sure yet if I think that's good or bad. They do provide alot of great information. I have a 4 hour class on Tuesday which should be very useful. These are just my own opinions as of today, 3-17-08. I will update once I have had the chance to meet Dr. Coates. Posted on 03/17/2008 |

Dr. Coates removed my gallbladder a few years ago. He was very nice and I lived! I figure he is very smart and very good at his job. No worries for that part. Posted on 03/10/2008 |
