My first impression of Dr. Carter was one of cofidence. He made me feel that I had made the right decision. Dr. Carter has a wonderful bed side manner. Office staff was efficent. There wasn't anything I didn't like about Dr. Carter. He will listen to what you have to say. He related to me the importance of taking it slow for another two weeks, but did say that I could do light house work. Yes ,he said that when I come into see him at my nex't appointment we will see if I'm ready to do heavier work. Yes Dr. Carter did go over the risks with my husband and I. He answered any questions we had. I would recommend Dr.Carter to anyone thinking of going to have the Gastric Bypass. I could not ask for any better surgeon.
No, I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Carter. He is a wonderful... [Click here for more] surgeon, and I was glad to have him do my surgery .

I have only met with him once, but he came very highly recommended. My visit with him was very relaxed and informative. He seems to have a very good bedside manner, and a very good knowledge of his field. He fully explained everything to me that I needed to know, and answered all of my questions. He also helped me with documentation that I needed for my husband's job to get time off. All in all, I am very confident in Dr. Carter preforming my surgery. Posted on 01/19/2008 |

I have only met with Dr. Carter once so far, but he was very friendly, kind and thorough. I normally don't feel comfortable discussing my weight issues with others, even medical professionals, but I'm very confident in his training and expertise which made it easy to discuss my medical history and battles with weight gain with him. He explained the procedure and the differences between lap and open. He explained the pre-op process and made sure I didn't leave his office with any questions.
His office staff was also very friendly, caring and knowledgeable. Before I met with Dr. Carter, I met with a young female nurse who took my weight, height, blood pressure and temperature. Before meeting with Dr. Carter, I met with one of his partners or assistants (I didn't catch his name, but... [Click here for more] I'll update when I hear it again) - he was also very kind and comforting to talk to about the surgery.
From what I understand, Dr. Carter is the head of the bariatric surgery department. He has been performing surgery since well before I was born, and I am very confident in his ability to perform this operation and act in my best interests.
There is a structured aftercare program, which is available for review on the MAMC website. Pathways classes, specialists appointments and further appointments with Dr. Carter and his team will cover this subject as well. He stressed the fact that aftercare is very important, and that long-term success will be up to me once he has done his part (my words, not his) in performing the operation and making sure I'm "trained" in how to care for my body post-op.
Dr. Carter and his staff made it very clear that this surgery was not a simple one. Regardless of which procedure I choose (lap or open), the surgery is a major one and post-operative care should be taken seriously.
I think a careful blend of surgical competence and bedside manner is important, and so far I believe Dr. Carter is right on track with that. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering having this surgery done, and I look forward to him leading me towards "the new me."
**note** Dr. Martin (one of Dr. Carter's associates) actually performed my surgery, and has been responsible for my follow-up visits since then. I think just as highly of him as I did Dr. Carter. Very highly recommended.

I have not met Dr. Carter yet but he comes highly recommended and I hope
that I can make an appointment with him within the next few month.
I called TRICARE to see if they had received my referral and to schedule an appointment but they told me no and I should contact my PCM so he can another referral, they even gave me a fax number. So hopefully this time around it will work out for me. Posted on 01/05/2007 |

Dr. Carter was very knowlegable about the surgery, did a great job explaining what took place and the results I might expect. He made me feel very comfortable. As our relationship progressed I became very happy to have him as my surgeon. His staff was great, and he and they came to visit me each day I was in the hospital post-op. If there was anything to find fault about it isn't his fault, it is difficult to get an appointment at Madigan due to the large number of patients that qualify for the surgery. Patients should know he is great, they will be lucky to get him. He does believe in follow-up, and it is easier to get appointments after surgery. He was very clear to point out the risks involved in the surgery. I believe him to be a top ranked surgeon, whose surgical competence... [Click here for more] and bedside manner are both superior.

Very pleased with Dr. Carter. Soft spoken, but to the point. Answered every question either my husband or I had. Very patient. Made me feel very comfortable. Very knowledgeable in his field. I have met with him three (3) times and have not changed my feelings. Actually, he is putting my fears to rest. He insists on Nutrition counseling, Mental health counseling, and Occupational Therapy PRIOR to scheduling surgery. This has been a great advantage that I would not have pursued if not been insisted upon. Posted on 10/28/2004 |

Dr. Carter is always there if you have questions. He is very understanding, patient, and just a very good surgeon. He does stress excercise, well balanced foods and explains your aftercare quite well. He also explained all the risks that involved with this kind of surgery. And if you still have questions, he answers them. I think I had the best surgeon possible and I couldnt have asked for a better one. Posted on 07/02/2004 |

Dr. Trombetta is part of Dr. Preston Carter's team at Madigan Army Hospital. Awesome guy, very forthright. Have only met with him one time so far so I'll edit as time passes.
Office staff are very pleasant folks especially the nurses. Funny gals and I feel very comfortable with being seen by them.
After care is very important to the docs at Madigan and they made sure I was very clear on how big this surgery is and how much my life will change. They have a nice handout package they gave me to educate me more about the surgery and also to give the names of some support groups in the area.
Overall I rate Dr. Carter's team as tops but again, I have only had the first meetings with them so I will add more as time allows.
Took them a long time to respond to my calls..about 7 weeks... [Click here for more] altogether. The end result worried me because I started getting assertive about getting a response and I thought it would upset the docs. They took it in stride and reassured me that they understood my position and would have reacted the same way. Apologetic and kind. I'm looking forward to getting to meet Dr. Carter face to face. He has great phone presence LOL.
Wanted to add that Dr. Carter called me one year post op to check up on me and discuss some issues that were taking place with me. I now live in Kentucky and while he did not have to do so, it meant SO MUCH that he took the time out of his schedule to do this. I owe him so much and am very thankful that I had such a tremendous surgeon watching over me during my procedure. I would definitely see him again in a heartbeat!
