I had my surgery 1 month ago yesterday and he is a wonderful doctor. Very kind, patient and even has a good sense of humor. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a surgeon. As for the office staff they were all very kind and helpful. His nurse is very nice, I only met her 1 time because she was away on her honeymoon when I first went to see him. Posted on 02/05/2010 |

He was very informative and kind thoughout everything. His staff was even more helpful with every little question I had, they never seemed bothered to answer. I fell that he is a wonderful Doctor. He explained the risk of the surgey very well to me.There was always some one to answer my questions or concerns.I would recomend him to any one who is thinking about weightloss surgey. His staff explained what i needed to do before surgey, and after surgery. They were there to answer my questions. His physican asst, Kelly is wonderfull, and also nurse Ellen. My experience overall was really good. And as far as the hospital staff nurses they could of been a little more helpfull as far as getting your pain meds to you a little quicker then they did. And they need to read your chart a little better, as in my case of my back problems and surgeries, which after this surgey my back pain was very bad due to havinging laid on the operating table for... Dr. Ramanathan was chosen for me when I attended a workshop at Magee Hospital. If I had chosen my own doctor I would not have been able to chose a better one. He is very patient and answers all of my questions. The staff at Magee Hospital are by the most part a very courteous and helpful group. I had my surgery in Dec. 2005 and have kept up with all of my appointsments and taken all the vitamins, etc. My one problem is that I did not lose all of the weight that I had hoped to lose. I still need to lose about 30 more pounds, but even with the suggestions from the doctor and staff I am still at the same weight. Anyway, yes, I really do like Dr. Ramanathan. My only thought is that because the practice at Magee Hospital is so huge, I sometimes have to wait a long time in the waiting... [Click here for more] room for my appointment time. But it is all worth it. My diabetes is gone, my blood pressure is lower and I feel Great!!!

My surgeon is so nice and he knows what he
is doing.
He told me everything from the beginning and I had a good first impression of him and it never changed .
His office is only a phone call away and they help if you have a question you are not alone.
He laid everything about surgery and what to expect along the way til the surgery and after.
I think he is a awesome surgeon and he is very caring and understanding and he does
care .
I liked his surgical competence and his bedside manner are both great .

All I have to say about this...is I have "NO" fear of surgery. I have The utmost faith in Dr. Ramanathan. I know he is the best of the best and located in pittsburgh, where half the country travels to for medical attention... He is soft spoken and draws you a picture of what he intends to do. He also explains all the risks and benefits. He also told me of the risk of gallbladder problems, even though I have gallstones, he is not taking out my gallbladder. I was very comfortable with him. His office staff are not always easy to get on the phone, but they do call you back within a day. The staff are very compassoniate and caring. They have a teaching seminar 2 weeks before your surgery to reinforce what "you". the patient need to do to be successful. They encourage questions and participation in every aspect of your care. All risks were discussed. I'm not sure I want to know about all of them. I would rate him a 9 on the care before hand. Although, I only met with him once. You can attend as many informative... [Click here for more] meetings that you want. I think competency and bedside manner are both needed. If you can't relate to your surgeon, I feel you lose some confidence in the surgeon.

I had my surgery on the 23rd of October of 2006. I had no problems at all and still have not had any I have lost 54lbs in 2 1/2 months from a size 24 to a size 16/14. It is so exciting I can paint my toenails and cross my legs, tie my own shoes and bend over and touch the floor. But most of all my diabetes is gone. I don't take high blood pressure meds anymore either. This journey has been really good so far. My first impression of Dr. Ramanathan was that he was very knowledgeable and very thorough in answering questions. I still think he is a great surgeon. The staff at the Bariatrics department in Magee is the best staff I have ever incountered in a hospital. He has a typical surgeons bedside manner which is just a little short. That he is a wonderful surgeon ans has one... [Click here for more] of the best if not the best mortality rate of all the ones I looked into. Which at the time of my surgery was 0.
He places a lot of emphasis on aftercare and yes they have a good program for aftercare and his PA is wonderful. HE explained the risks and drawbacks thoroughly. I would rate him a 10. Surgical compentence was great and his bedside manner was good. I was more interested in his competence. The nurses were great at the bedside.
