Dr. Stahl is a wonderful surgeon.
His nurse is awesome!
The office staff is good. They have a few new faces now.
Shelby Baptist Hospital now has a bariatric coordinator. Her name is Pepi Humphrey. She is wonderful. This is a new position and she is working hard to define it.
They do not emphasize going to support groups, but I am hoping this changes with the new changes at the hospital. Posted on 09/28/2008 |

My surgeon came highly recommended to me by my family practice physician and my wife's OB/GYN. From my experiences, he is an outstanding Dr. who is truly realistic about the options of weight loss surgery. His Bariatric program at Baptist Shelby medical center is outstanding in their care. They see that you have done all paperwork and crossed all the "T"s before you can have an initial consult. Once you have your initial consult, you are almost assured of the insurance approval. Dr. Stahl also has a great bedside manner and never acts to be in a hurry. He will stay with you and answer questions as long as you have them. My first impression of Dr. Stahl was very positive. He took time with me and made sure I understood all the ins and outs of my surgery. The staff in his office were great. Totally supportive. Never minded my questions (and I called daily!) Overall I rate him a 10!!! Surgical competence? He took the extra time to do my surgery laproscopically insted of open - made all the difference in recovery. Another surgeon would have taken the easy way out. My initial visit with Dr. Stahl went extremely well. He seemed very interested in me as a patient and was willing to stay as long as needed to answer all my questions. I am very excited to have chosen him as my surgeon and have every confidence in him and his staff. Dr. Stahl takes time to go over the pros and cons of the surgery both risks and successes. He also stresses the importance of aftercare. I would rate him a 10. Cahaba Valley Surgical has a wonderful, friendly staff. They seem to genuinely love their job and care for their patients. I went to my medical doctor in June, 2002 and told him I was ready to see a doctor about the by-pass surgery. He immediately recommended Dr. Stahl in ALabaster. I live in Montgomery but didn't mind driving to Alabaster to get a good doctor. I wasn't even sure anyone did the surgery here in Montgomery. Anyway, when I called to make my appointment, they diodn't have an opening until the end of August. I told them to put me down for that date. It worked out great because the job I have keeps me out of town the whole month of July. When I finally got to see Dr. Stahl I really liked him very much. I was embarrassed at how much weight I had gained - I'm now at 300 lbs. Dr. Stahl answered all my questions and I feel very pleased with him. I just found out today - Sept. 16 that... [Click here for more] my insurance has approved me so now I'm just waiting for a surgery date.

H-E-L-L-O~~ Can we say WONDERFUL! Dr. Stahl is great! He has always taken his time with me, listened to me ramble, and answered all of my questions!!! He was great during surgery as well. He left no bruising (okay one tiny bruise, but I cannot even see it) and no pain---gotta love that! He completed my surgery with no leaks or icky gas pains! I would and WILL recommend him to anyone! Not one negative thing about him. His office staff was great! My only issues with his office is that I was told $9,000.00 for cash pay and when I got to the hospital it was $10,050.00, I just paid it, because I wanted to be skinny! Holli Posted on 09/06/2006 |

He is an excellent surgeon. I did a lot of research and was informed that he was one of the best surgeons in the whole south. I am so glad that I chose him as my doctor. During surgery there was a problem with my stomach. My stomach was adhered to my diaphram and he got it unstuck. It took surgery 2 hours more than planned. He did a wonderful job and took his time even though he had several more surgeries to do that day. Posted on 04/10/2006 |

Dr. Stahl was very warm, and friendly. He gave me a complete physical with lab work to make sure I was completely able to have the surgery. My impression has not changed. The office was friendly and they knew just what to do. I watched a video about the surgery, and all of my question about the surgery were answered by him before I had the chance to ask. I was instructed in my after care and how important it is to maintaine it. The Cahaba group has a structured aftercare program. We also addressed the risk of the surgery.
