What was your first impression of him/her? He was very professional and answered all my questions and some I didn't even think to ask.
How did your impression change over time? After time he seemed more personable. Laughed and joked with me.
How would you describe his/her office staff? They were super nice. I really liked them all.
What did you like least about him/her? Hmm Nothing really. I honestly have nothing negative to say about him.
What should future patients know about him/her? He looks very young but is Awesome. Would recommend him for anyone wanting to have WLS
How much does he/she emphasize aftercare? I had a bit of a complication with my gallbladder and he made sure I was healthy before I went home.
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Absolutely.... [Click here for more] How did he/she address the risks of surgery? I knew every risk there was before I even had a date for surgery then he went over them again at my pre Op
How would you rate him/her overall? Excellent
Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Both are great!! Thank you soo much DR LI you have changed my life.

Dr. Li was professional, knowledgeable and caring. Many people said that he lacked bedside manner but I found him to be right up my alley. He answered all of my questions and even seemed a little tickeled that I had the nerve to ask him some of the questions that I did. I told him "I did my homework" and he responded to me "I see and I like that.." I left his office feeling confident and safe. Posted on 01/10/2008 |

Ok, so maybe a bit superficial, but Dr. Li is a cutie! haha Doesn't hurt that he is nice to look at. I have met him on three occasions besides surgery. He was reserved at first, but he is a really nice guy. He explained things to me in terms I could understand. He answers any questions I have and he does it in a nice pleasent manner. He is not critical at all. He is very positive and encouraging. He is a Kaiser doctor, and their pre surg care and post is phenomenal. They are all about the education. I do not know what the other doctors there at Kaiser are like, but he is great. Posted on 01/05/2008 |

Dr. Li is great. He was very informative of the surgery. The staff at Kaiser South San Francisco's Bariatric surgery department is wonderful. The entire program is nothing less than awesome. The approach to weight loss as a mind, body and spirit journey makes this a more feasible journey for me to go through and complete. Posted on 09/17/2007 |

I was told Dr. Li was very abrupt and brief with people. However, I thought he was very kind and seemed genuinely concerned for my health. His staff was great at getting appointments made around my schedule although a few staff members seemed rude over the phone.
I would rate him as one of the best surgeons in his field. I have had zero complications and feel wonderful! Posted on 07/21/2007 |

I'm waiting to meet with Dr.Li about a month before my surgery. I hear he is an excellent surgeon even though he doesn't have the "greatest" bedside manner. I'd rather have a surgeon who's strong point was cutting and pasting rather than talking! I am excited to have him as my surgeon because I know I will be in the best hands. I am happy to get Dr.Li rather than one of the new surgeons replacing Dr.Umbach and Dr.Gorrin, because I know more about him and feel more comfortable with him as he has been there longer.
add on: I finally met Dr.Li and I was impressed with his expertise. He's very professional and serious, and I feel that I will be in good hands as he has a lot of experience. He was taller and younger than I thought from his pic on OH. He went over my risks for surgery and... [Click here for more] said he felt I had no more risk than for any other surgery. He was pleased with my pre-op weight loss and he was very informative.
update: We made it! Dr.Li did my surgery yesterday afternoon and he took wonderful care of me. He was gentle with me, and I don't even see any bruising around my incisions. He made 5 small incisions. I have had little pain after the first couple of hours. Thank you Dr.Li! You are the best!

Dr Li lacks a bit in people skills. But in a pinch like my emergency he was professional and helpful.
Kaiser has a fabulous pre-op and post-op care program. It takes forever to have the surgery but by then you really know what you're getting into.
What Dr Li lacked in bedside manner he more than made up for in his manner in handling my emergency - internal bleeding needing 3 units. He seems to have a fine reputation though he was not my choice - they had an opening and I jumped in. I really had no preference who did the surgery. All the Kaiser bariatric surgeons have a fine reputation. Posted on 02/02/2006 |

Dr. Robert Li didn't have alot to say during our two appointments so far, but what little he said was important. His bio is impressive and he has performed many surgeries even though he looks so young! Dr. Li is listed on this website as being from Burlingame but is now at Kaiser South San Francisco. My first impression of Dr. Li was that his bedside manner needed a little work...he was a little cool and rushed. But then I thought to myself...this man is so busy, he is seeing so many people each day and trying to provide as much information to each of us and gather information from us in such a limited time. I knew then that I needed to look at him through different eyes. I had told him that I had read his bio and was very pleased that he was going to be my surgeon which prompted a wide grin from him. I then also apologized upfront for any proclimations of love I may impose upon him when being awakened from anesthesia! He thought that was pretty funny and we were off to a great appointment and an agreement that we would both forget anything I might say to embarrass either... [Click here for more] of us! Dr. Li's staff is very helpful, very informative and always friendly. They each treat you as though you are a family member of theirs and show true excitement for you on your upcoming surgery.

Dr. Li was very nice and very conservative. The other surgeons released their patients the day after surgery. Dr. Li keeps you in an extra day. Beside manner could improve. Posted on 06/10/2005 |
