Dr. Cobean is a straight forward doctor. He does not sugar coat things to appease you. He is serious about his job as a surgeon and he is not afraid to let you know his impression of you. He is very strict and if you do not meet up to his expectations as a patient, then you may as well forget having surgery until you make the effort to take things seriously. rnrnI have been working at getting a surgery date for 3 years now. I wouldn't have it any other way. I did the serious work needed to be done in order to have this very serious surgery and I would be concerned if things were not so rigid. rnrnSurgery done on August 24th 2009    Posted on 09/18/2009

Referred to Dr. Cobean 6/28/07. Finally got all my info from my PCP on 7/23/07. Psych. eval on 9/13/07. Appointment w/surgeon schedualed for 11/7/07. Nutritionist appt. 11/26/07. 2nd appointment with dietician schedualed for 1/15/08 as well as 2nd appt with Laura. Things are going so well. The staff at Dr. Cobean's office are all friendly and helpful! Dr. Cobean seems nice, even a little silly. So far, I'm glad I picked him!!! :) Tentative surgery date: 3/24/08! Pre-op testing : 3/10/08 HAd surgery 3/24/2008...things went smooth. Healed nicely. No complications. Dr. Cobean was fabulous! Very good at what he does. Definitely a smart choice!    Posted on 06/02/2009

He was quite humorous... seems to have a down to earth personality. I felt very comfortable around him which I'm usually not around male doctors!!!    Posted on 02/15/2008

Dr. Cobean is a wonderful doctor/surgeon. He's very professional but also a very down-to-earth person.rnrnI first met Dr. Cobean back in the late 1980's. My impression of him has not really changed.rnrnDr.Cobean's office staff, for the most part are very nice, helpful, encouraging, and professional. rnrnDr. Cobean and his bariatric surgery program staffrnstrongly emphasize aftercare after bariatric surgery!rnrnYes, absolutely! They have a very well structured aftercare program to my understanding.rnrnDr. Cobean addressed the risks of surgery very much to my satisfaction. I would rate Dr. Cobean overall, on a scale from 1-10, a "8.5". rnrnDefinitely both are a terrific combination! I believe Dr. Cobean has both these qualities.    Posted on 10/24/2007

Dr. Cobean looked very young, but definitely knows his business. I think the program at MMC is one of the best. The office staff has been very helpful trying to work around my travel plans. They tried to combine appointments when possible due to the distance I had to travel. Pre-care has been great, I feel much better prepared this time around.    Posted on 09/13/2007

Dr. Cobean requires that each patient attend a support group meeting conducted by his office before being considered for surgery. I attended about 2 weeks prior to my first appointment at Dr. Cobean's office. I saw Dr. Cobean at that support meeting and had NO idea what to think! He seemed very young and had a terrific sense of humor. He also seemed kind of off the cuff. I just wasn't sure what to think. After going to his office and attending an educational meeting, meeting with the nutritionist, the psychiatrist and having my before photo taken, I finally met Dr. Cobean personally. He is very matter of fact and knowledgable. He encourages questions and tells you a thousand ways that you better be sure that you know what you're getting into, then he tells you again what you are getting... [Click here for more]

Dr. Roy Cobean was kind, factual, and went the extra mile. (He personally called me the night before surgery.) rnI am so pleased with his bedside manner as well as his surgical competence. My procedure was laparoscopic Roux en Y, including removing my gall bladder. I went into surgery at 3.30 pm on a Monday and I was home by 9:30, Tuesday morning. I was back at work a week later and credit him for my very rapid recovery.    Posted on 02/27/2007

My first impression of Dr.Cobean, was he was not judgemental,he cares about his patients, and he is a very nice person.rnMy impression of him has not changed. I recommend him very Highly.rnDr.Cobean's office staff is so caring, kind, and understanding, and they are there for you.rnThere is nothing bad I can think of.rnThat Dr.Cobean may prolong your surgery, for safety reasons.rnHis office is very thorough, and they are there for their patients and families.rnIve been to two other surgeons and I didnt care for them, their bedside manners didnt sit very good with me, then a friend of mine referred me to Dr. Cobean and he has been my Gastric doctor since.rnI havent had my surgery yet, but I cannot wait til I do.    Posted on 12/16/2006

Great guy, wonderful surgeon. He already "knew the territory", having taken my gall bladder out in 2003 so it just made sense for him to do my Lap RNY too. He is kind, funny, and extremely skilled. The one thing I would say that could use some improvement is that I believe sometimes he is a bit overbooked and can tend to seem rushed. Nothing serious though, because I know if I need anything, there are plenty of fabulous staff members around to help me out. A+!    Posted on 08/07/2006

'I met with Dr. Cobean for the first time in March. He and his staff are wonderful. They all work as a team to give you the patient the best care possible. They have a structured program that if you follow I can't see how you could fail. They also express the importance of follow up care for life with them    Posted on 06/30/2006
