Christopher Larson the physicain's assistant was the first person I met with, then I met Dr. Shanu Kothari. My impression of them is the same for both. They were welcoming, friendly and professional. They put me at ease, asked questions of me, and listened well. They both described risks with weight loss surgery and reasons not to get it. It was clear that it was my choice, not theirs. The process and procedure was explained in detail. I felt free to ask questions and get them answered. The office staff is also friendly and professional. I do recommend this doctor and his services based on my experiences so far.    Posted on 02/02/2008

Initial impression was he was very professional and knowledgeable. He has performed over 550 WLS and everyone I have talked to that has had the surgery, has had it done by him. He is at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, WI and performa primarily Laparoscopic GB but will do open if it is warranted. I would recommend him to anyone in the area that is considering having it done. He is very in tune to the aftercare and support groups that Gundersen offers and has a fabulous dietary staff as well as surgery team that are all about the patient.    Posted on 07/18/2007

A wonderful man, with a wonderful team and process for going through this process. From day one of your interest you are brought into a group of people that have your best interests at heart, all the info you need, they do all the paperwork, it was effortless! Amazing...    Posted on 09/24/2006

Dr Kothari was great all around. Never had any issues with him. Stopped by to visit twice (I think..it could have been a mirage on day one). Recovery was quick...and the ride begins. I had issues with the hospital stay itself, but not with my surgeon or his staff.    Posted on 09/02/2006

My first impression of Dr. Kothari was excellent. He has an excellent attitude, he tells you everything you need & want to know & all the things you don't. He's excellent at what he does & he's very caring about his patients & does everything in his power for them to have a good outcome. My impression of him has gotten even stronger over time that he is a very caring surgeon. You are a very cared for patient & not a number. His office staff are excellent & well trained & have much knowlege in the area of bariatrics. Future patients need to know that he really cares about them & how they will do. If he thinks they're not serious about changing or the surgery outcome he will not do the surgery. You will need to follow through on everything he orders (tests, etc.). You have to... Very professional physician. Great office staff, very caring and concerned. They (Chris and Dr Kothari) did not think I would qualify or get approved for surgery since I was so borderling, but with dr Kothari's letter I was approved in 2 weeks! Pre and post op care is vital to this practice, you must show you have completed all of their required steps before your surgery date is scheduled.    Posted on 07/10/2005

I instantly like him, he was warm, friendly, he listened!, and his staff were wonderful as well. I really liked how well the before, during, and after WLS program was structured. I also thought that their program was great because they encouraged me to start the diet and exercise before even being approved by the insurance. I feel this is key for helping your body adjust for the after life of WLS. I already feel changes taking place in my body and I haven't had the surgery yet.    Posted on 05/14/2005

My first impression of Dr. Kothari was that he sincerely believes in what he does and sees the benefit of wls and it's impact on peoples lives. He has been nothing but kind, yet professional with myself and my husband. The bariatric program at this hospital is very involved and geared towards giving the patient the tools needed to succeed. There is a support group in place for both post and pre op individuals. There are several required meetings with the registered dietician to help you succeed after surgery. Dr. Kothari and his team were very up front about the risks of the surgery and answered all questions that I had. I would rate him excellent. He is a top notch surgeon with impressive credentials and has a wonderful bedside manner as well.    Posted on 12/26/2004

Iwas very scared of him when I first met him, I thought he would yell at me but he was very nice and concerned. He was so gentle and cared what happens to each person, I wasn't afraid the second time I saw him. Dr. Kothari and the staff were very good to work with. One thing you always new where you stood. I liked him, ther wasn't any thing I didn't like about him. Dr. Kothari is a compansionate person and cares about you as a person not just a number. He care very much that you follow the guide lines so you don't get sick. Yes, Dr. Kothai does have an aftercare program. Dr. Kothari address the ricks of surgery and if he feels that you need to do something to help put youinto a better situation for surgery he will suggest that to you. Dr. Kothari, I would rate him A+. He is... [Click here for more]

I feel Dr. Kothari is a very knowledgable, caring doctor. He has a wonderful bedside mannor and answered all of my questions completely. I trusted him fully and still do. I was very impressed with Chris Larson. He gives a straight story, no sugar coating...which is what I love/loved about him. I was completely aware of what I was about to embark on. After I had the surgery, I was contacted by a member of Dr. Kothari's team, by phone, just to see how I was doing. I was very impressed with that. This is definately a team you can trust to help you make this life changing decision!    Posted on 10/19/2004
