Steven William Paynter, MD, graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1983, and completed his Surgical Residency at East Tennessee State University in 1988. Dr. Paynter has practiced advanced laparoscopic surgery for over 15 years, and bariatric surgery since 2000, and is among the most experienced surgeons in the Southeast performing the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band procedure.
Additionally, Dr. Paynter participated in the FDA Phase III clinical trial and was a significant part of the effort that resulted in the development of Weight Management Programs at Memorial Hospital (Chattanooga, TN) and Hamilton Medical Center (Dalton, GA).
Dr. Paynter is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a past Chief of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff at Hamilton Medical Center. Dr. Paynter is also an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS), American Society of General Surgeons, and Southern Medical Association (SMA).
