Additional Experience:  Dr. Sonnanstine is Northern Kentucky's first board certified surgeon who is Fellowship-Trained in minimally invasive bariatric surgery. He is an associate member of The American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, He achieved his medical doctorate degree at Northeastern Ohio University, College of Medicine, .Dr. Sonnanstine graduated cum laude from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, served his residency in general surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus where he was appointed chief resident. Dr. Sonnanstine trained under one of the leading bariatric surgeons in the country during his fellowship at Tuft's-New England Medical Center, a preeminent center for bariatric surgery. In 2004, Dr. Sonnanstine accepted the position as Medical Director of the Tristate Surgical Weight Loss Center, he is now a consultant and proctor for Ethicon Endosurgery and Synovis Surgical, training Bariatric surgeons from throughout the United States and Internationally where he traveled to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon and United Arab Emirate teaching several surgeons the skill of Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass surgery. Most recently Dr. Sonnanstine was chosen as a National Proctor for the Ethicon Adjustable Gastric Band. "Realize Band" As of this time Dr. Sonnanstine has performed 550 gastric band surgeries with 350 of those being lapband, and 200 of the new Ethicon "Realize Band" as he continues to teach around the world.
